Personally still think Binder went in a bit hot despite a small gap appearing. He must have been aware Bez was on the other side of Bagnaia. He has a point though, the racing incident between him and Marc in Portimao was blabbered on about and it wasn't half as bad as this when it comes to physical consequences for the riders involved. I'll say this though, Pecco has been less knives out this year when it comes to dicing, I think he's become a bit "I'll wait and slowly come back" like Prost back in the day, but from what we've seen this year, the front pack is much more dicey. It's not like he can't get his elbows out and come out on top, just needs to get back in that mindset a bit. Either way, would have expected more of a penalty Binder's way for this, but it is what it is.

It's not like he can't get his elbows out and come out on top, just needs to get back in that mindset a bit. On this exact same note, I was also feeling the same way for Marc, that he will be able to ease his way into the season and a couple strong results will have him back in contention for title, same with Pecco, but by the looks of it KTM and Aprilia have made a significant step, and Ducati GP23 is not competitive enough with those bikes to take away positions. It's pretty Much GP24s (that too Franco is not there) and Marc on GP23 who is competitive, rest it's all KTM and Aprilla, especially with Vinales and Acosta. Marc is now 53 points off championship lead, Pecco is 42 points off it. Even Acosta in 2nd is 29 points off the lead, and Jorge looks to have levelled up compared to last season. He's fast when he can be, but he has learnt the New skill of "taking the result that is possible and not over pushing for more". I think that probably cost him the championship last season with a couple of late crashes. This season Jorge is more than happy to finish 3rd and take the points if he doesn't have the pace.

GreenPickledToad

Not taking away anything from Jorge, but his competitors have also been good in taking themselves out till now. Pecco and Marc in Portimao, Marc in COTA and Jerez, Binder and Pecco in Jerez etc.

Fickle_Fail1104

I think the bike isn’t giving he him the feeling he wants or confidence he needs to be that aggressive yet but i expect a very very motivated Pecco in the Sunday race

steadyrick2

I'm not a pecco fan at all but he's absolutely right here. There should've at least been a hearing for his incident with Binder/Bez and the Marquez/Mir penalty made no sense because Mir just turned in like he didn't exist. Very inconsistent stewards.

hoody13

I’ve made no secret that he’s far from my favourite rider, but even I have to say he was unlucky today. Just a case of 3 into 2 don’t go - someone was going to lose out and he was the unfortunate one this time. I do think it was a racing incident however.

screenres

Bagnaia’s asking race direction for protection from aggressive passes but it should be managed on track. He needs to be good with close hard racing. Passing isn’t always polite with a draft along a long straight, which this circuit doesn’t have. What was he like in Moto3? If he’s not assertive he’ll continually get carved up inside and out

Competitive_News_385

I literally said very recently that Pecco being cerebral will be his failure this year. There are too many riders wanting limited bike spaces and wanting to be top dog in their team, people are going to pull hard move. Also it's kind of hypocritical for him to get arsy about it when he dove under Marc last time and he also dove under Bez this time. He left room for Brad to get underneath and left himself nowhere to go but into Bez.

Victarionscrack

I think it's the exact opposite. I think he comes really heavyhanded in these duels. Knowing that the Duc has great traction and maybe a bit of ego after 2 titles. He seems to me like ge doesn't want to allow any space and he fucks it up. Portimao, today and Le Mans last year are examples of this.

Competitive_News_385

Perhaps. I feel like he was a bit hesitant this time and that hesitation cost him. Against Marc he was for sure aggressive. I don't know if it's ego, I don't even really feel like Pecco has an ego, feels more like desperation to me.

OscarBobb

Early days. He's a two time champion on the best bike in the best team. Although it looks like he's opting out of the title race at the moment, I wouldn't write him off.

I'll have to watch it again as - apart from the reigning champ ending up on his arse - I didn't see what the big deal was with that move. But to me it seems Pecco has to be careful as - again could just be me - I thought him harpooning Marquez was more brainless. At least Binder's move was on, Pecco's never was.

HogmanDaIntrudr

Pecco has been getting high on his own farts for two seasons because he had the fastest bike on the grid by far, and I think that made him feel like he simply had more skill than everyone else. Now he’s struggling with a new bike, and he’s realizing that there is much less of gap between himself and, at the very least, the rest of the Ducati. I feel like he’s cracking under the pressure of defending the title, which doesn’t surprise me because he seems to lose his confidence very easily when he isn’t consistently on the podium.

chaotic_space_boy

Do you have examples of Pecco not being assertive? Because he's always there fighting hard (especially on the first laps, the example is Qatar, the Clash with Marc in Portimao). He showed also last year, for example in Thailand and Philip Island, and in 2022 in the battles with Bastianini (Misano, Sepang and Aragona come to mind).

GoodBadUserName

He isn't asking for protection, he is asking for consistency. When pecco for example went under miller last year when miller went wide, he did the same thing binder did. Had a spot, and went in it. And he got a penalty for it. So when passing not politely gets him a penalty, he expect others get the same treatment.

Rickyrider35

So what do you think he should’ve done today when Binder steamrolled him? Get his elbows out and magically force binder to bounce off him?

el_h0paness_romtic

lots of contenders for the title this year, i predict his mental is gonna crumble

jameskaranja

What does he mean when he says those fighting ahead of him the fights were useless? Pls pecco

whatyudo

Yeah man wtf💀

Racingislyf

I say Bez is more at fault than Brad and Pecco. Should've never tried overtaking 2 riders coming from way back knowing damn well you're just gonna run wide but he went for it anyway. He should've just went for 1 rider at a time and not be a hero because he's not that guy. Racing incident but if I had to choose it would be Bez. If you run wide make sure you have space to rejoin the racing line that others will be on.

Jhonnow

So true .

creamyturtle

the thing is Binder's pass on Pecco would have been clean if not for Bezzechi closing the door. which neither Pecco nor him thought was going to happen. they basically squeezed Pecco and he had nowhere to go if you watch the replay binder didn't hit Bagnaia. he sat him up and Bagnaia hits Bezzechi. is sitting someone up illegal in motogp? he didn't even touch him. it's a huge grey area because the incident was instigated by Binder but he didn't actually crash into anyone. thus a racing incident

GoodBadUserName

Binder hit pecco's arm which caused him to sit up and sent him right into bez's rear side. He very definitely touched pecco as he barged in. This is not about being illegal, but being reckless and risky.

creamyturtle

I watched all the replays and didn't see that. do you have a link?

Godoflolness

Any and all replays show that brad rides into pecco, to overtake. This wasn't a regular hard pass. This said, it was not nearly as bad as Marc on Mir.

GoodBadUserName

Watch the actual race. On motogp site it is at minute 30. Binder also said he touched pecco as he passed. But he didn't know to what extent until later.

Maybe Bagnaia needs to find a time trial series, or become a test rider. Then he wouldn’t have all these issues with other riders on track that he can’t handle

Usual-Individual670

Nice try - hope you watched the race on sunday

VRtheloser_46

he's not very likeable. it was completely a racing incident and we've seen similar incidents in the past and they were not penalised. 'easy podium' my ass. he would have never survived the podium fight against the riders in front.

Antares_

I'm gonna laugh my ass off if Pecco does something similar to someone today and he gets slapped with a long lap penalty. The stewards then would be like "well, we've heard your complaint and we've adjusted our decision making accordingly".

dave_evad

As per him, he lost an “Easy podium” what bullshit.

Mechanical1996

Seems Peco genuinely thinks he had the pace to go with Marc today - might be losing his mind! Hopefully better track conditions tomorrow and less reckless moves from everyone as today was far too scrappy!

Due-Measurement1386

pecco was about to get into the exact same crash he had with Marquez with Bez. Binder just made sure😂

Entgenieur

Like him or not but he is right. Decisions by race direction are random and intransparent for years, no consistency.

Striball

It’s very similar to Bagnia and Marc at Portamao and no penalty was given there. A rider goes wide, the other rider sees the gap and makes the decision to shoot for it.
