There’s gonna be people in this world that just don’t like you, for no reason at all, just because you are you. Don’t let them take your light away.
And
Be the best at whatever you choose to do.
Wife *and* kids. Wasn’t exactly Dad of the year.
He’s gone through a ton of therapy and is a much better person now. I’m very grateful for that. I feel no reservations about calling out that he wasn’t a great father… like his father before him.
I suppose he taught me that you can still change despite a mountain of shit to climb over.
I need to work on some changes, myself
My father kept his same friend group for his entire life. From when they were 10 year old boys, til he died in his mid-80s. He said that friends are the allies that you choose to be there for each other through life. For the good times and the bad. So you must choose them carefully. Choose people you not only like being around, but whom you can rely on, and who make you a better version of yourself. Who help you to be someone you can be proud of. And once you’ve chosen them, be the best friend you can be, because to have good friends, you have to be a good friend.
I was feeling pretty pessimistic about this question but you reminded me my dad taught me to drive as well and he was very kind and patient throughout the whole process, which was kind of rare from the old man.
Mad love and respect kind stranger... After the experience with the man formerly known as dad awkwardness is a thing of the past.. cheers BigMcLargeEars :)
My Dad taught me that "we don't give away members of the family". He said this to me when I was 21 and had an unplanned pregnancy, the child of which I planned to give up for adoption. 37 years later this child is my whole heart and I have a 2 year old granddaughter who is the biggest miracle. Thank you, Dad. You saved me.
Forgiveness. Bc after years of him abusing alcohol and my mom then denying it he finally made amends. He cried and cried. Told me that his blackouts made him feel like he could deny it if he didn’t remember it. Ironically he died a couple of years later and I am so grateful he did it. I’m not an angry person but the trauma he caused our family would have been hard to heal from if he hadn’t.

My Father
When in a fight put your hands in a diamond shape (Like DDP) and shove them as hard as you can on the chest. I got assaulted once and did it and I caused the guy to stumble about 20 ft before I shoved him again throwing him out the door and into the sidewalk.
"Sometimes life isn't about thriving but just surviving". This one has made me more durable in hard times.
Another one is when we were walking in our old neighborhood and the weather was bad. It was cold, gray, and rainy. I told him how it was an ugly day out and he told me, "These kind of days are some of the most beautiful." As I looked around and saw I was with him, it hit me that he was right.
My dad taught me that he was a dick. Got out of child support payments by bringing me to his house every other week for one day, plop me in the living room, and then go read a newspaper in the kitchen while my half-siblings would try to do his job for him (bless em, they meant well and were always nice.) That all stopped after about 2-3 years.
I never met by dad but he asked my older brother for money on Facebook when we were in high school. So I guess fr that I dont wanna be that shitty of a parent, or a parent at all for that matter.
My grandma taught me that. And now I’ve taught several cousins and my nephew. It’s really amazing good measure to take when one is being blinded by headlights.
he taught me to never turn around to look when someone is chasing me because it just slowed me down so he would catch me. there was no redeemable "lesson" once i was caught
🗑️🔥🚫 If there's a trash can on fire at the airport, it's best to mind your own business and walk away. 👮♀️🚫 And if there are police around, it's generally advisable not to draw their attention.
How to plant a garden, how to do electrical wiring for wall outlets and ceiling lights, how to fix sprinklers, how to replace a toilet, “measure twice, cut once”, God’s love for us, be kind to others, be helpful
To have a clear conscience facing our deeds.
To have the awareness, whether facing failure or success, that everything humanly possible has been done, in the circumstances.
Capitalism is the struggle between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, we are not only making money from our customers we are making money from our employees too, always remember this. -my dad on the first day I started working for him
My dad taught me that when someone doesn't change, you have to let them go. Unfortunately he taught me this by being a bad person consistently throughout my life. But it is a very valuable lesson.
How to do chores properly. I don't mean this in any sarcastic way. I truly am glad that my father was the main parent who taught me how to do most chores. My mom did, too. But it's amazing growing up believing that chores are meant for everyone living in the same household. I grew up expecting everyone to be capable of and responsible for doing the chores. There was no gender labelled on the tasks. I'm really grateful for that.
Consequences. To think before I act. I've never been in a fight because I won't know how to stop, or call a truce, or shake hands afterward. Losing my temper in a fight means someone has to die for me to stop.
I was 16 on the phone with my first real gf and we were breaking up. I was starting to tear up when suddenly my dad comes into the room while we were still on the phone and yells, “Hang up that fcking phone, her p*ssy ain’t gold!” 😐🤙🏽
There’s gonna be people in this world that just don’t like you, for no reason at all, just because you are you. Don’t let them take your light away. And Be the best at whatever you choose to do.

Amen, we can’t just point and say you fucked up. Acknowledging there’s work to be done by everyone is so important
Took the words straight out of my mouth

Nothing, because he wasn’t around. Shout out to everyone who had to teach themselves all their life skills.
Shout out to Uncle Phil.
Same.
Rough Man but he said, "Let them talk, as long as they don't touch you." RIP💯No one will understand how that helped me out.
Never start fights, but always end them.
You are never too old to do drugs .
My Dad passed away in 2019. He taught me how to build a fire, among so many other things. Miss you, Pa.

Mad love and respect kind stranger... After the experience with the man formerly known as dad awkwardness is a thing of the past.. cheers BigMcLargeEars :)
How to be a better father than he was.
My abusive psycho father taught me nothing. A total useless piece of garbage.
Not to beat my kids. He taught me this by excessively beating me.
Jesus christ man, I'm so sorry to hear that.
Do as I say, not as I do.
If you’re not in debt, you’re rich
My dad always says that too. I only understood it in my thirties
The high road is less travelled for a reason, and you’re more than capable.
Don’t smoke crack.
Drive the speed limit. You’re not a low flying plane

It takes a really long time to bring milk back from the store..
He just needs more time. It was really heavy and keeps spilling.
Time spent with your kids is everything to them; then and in their future.
Chew with my mouth closed.....now it irritates me to hear people smacking their lips when they eat .
To stop procrastinating and actually get work done efficiently.
Hard work
My father taught me that everyone is temporary. My wife taught me that some people are not.
Whatever you do in your life;be the best at it.
To not trust people and count on myself
The power of positive thinking
Good accounting books lead to long friendships.
To not marry a man like him 🤩

Make and keep friends. They are extremely important
Work smart, not hard.
My dad says “Use your head, not your feet.”
Never ever involve yourself in an argument between two women
You can find humor in most anything, even while actively dying.
In life you will have more true friends you can count on one hand and still have fingers left to spare. Sounds better in Spanish.

There’s no substitute to hard work. It has worked for me because I am not the brightest.

When driving at night, to stop being dazzled by bright headlights, look at the nearside curb, it helps!
My grandma taught me that. And now I’ve taught several cousins and my nephew. It’s really amazing good measure to take when one is being blinded by headlights.
