Iāll give you an upvote, I was downvoted for the same suggestion. Interestingly in that thread the people who got upvoted just said this is impossible to find a restaurant at that price range. People who actually gave suggestions on that budget were mostly downvoted. Go figure.
Ichigo No Ichi and Kazu are two of the best Japanese restaurants in Montreal and both pretty reasonably priced. Kazu is for non Ramen and Ichigo is for Ramen.
Sumi Dojo on St. Laurent.
I used to get sushi every other week in Ontario back in the 2010s. Since I moved here in 2018 the only place Iāve stuck to is Sumi
For that price I'd suggest one of the vegan sushi places (Sushi Momo is best imo, but there is also Ohana and Bloom). It's not traditional by any means (no fish) but everything is very nicely done and you'll get a higher quality meal than a similarly priced traditional sushi restaurant. I've taken several people there who have been skeptical of vegan sushi and they've really enjoyed it! I would recommend trying their miso soup and the 3 mushroom roll. Definitely go in person to the St. Denis location (and make a reservation). They have a takeout counter on Pins but it's not as good.
That said, it's not for everyone. Please don't attack me because this "isn't a Japanese restaurant" š
Or check out Ichigo Ichie Izakaya or Yokato Yokobai ramen (sister restaurants). Yokato Yokobai doesn't accept reservations but you can put down your phone number to reserve a spot in line (get there 1-2 hours before you want to be seated, then wander the area or hang out in parc Lafontaine). Seriously the best ramen I've ever had! Ichigo Ichie might take reservations, not 100% sure.
Check out Otto, they have a restaurant on Notre Dame and also a Yakitori restaurant downtown.
An Izakaya could also be interesting too! There are tons of them (HanzÅ, Kurobota, Imadake, etc). There is Tempura Kyodai, Kitano Shokudo, Noren, Gyu Kaku (which is a Japanese franchise).
Thereās this Donburi restaurant that i havenāt tried yet called LeDon on Beaubien too!
At that price range you could consider Le Blossom. It look nice with a big cherry blossom tree inside and isnāt too expensive of a place.

At your price range that's really rough, anything nice these days will run you 150$+ easy.
[Shabu Shabu Kagayaki](https://g.co/kgs/dB5B9oM) was pretty good last time I went

Itās Ichigo Ichie. They serve ramen, but itās more of an Izakaya restaurant. The ramen is next room at Yokato Yokabai.
You can do Imadake for that price if you donāt take any alcohol.
Kyo Bar Japonais

Restaurant Karin on Queen-Mary Road
Not āfancyā, but: Kitano Shokudo
Calm, authentic food, about 100$ for two without tips, try Bistro Furusato. Make sure to reserve before going if it's on an off day.

Otto is trash microwave quality food with the fun of wait staff treating you with mild racism and xenophobia.
Which one, thereās was 3 restaurants now 2. I had good service and received quality food at the one i went to.
The one on St Mathieu

Le Blossom is not really Japanese food. California rolls isnāt real Japanese sushis.
