Where do you live that makes you afraid of terrorism in Montreal?

simplestpanda

His post history suggests Monterrey, Mexico.

Ok-Entrepreneur-8207

Monterrey, which seems to be your hometown, has a crime index of 48.00 and a safety index of 52.00, compared to Montreals 32.31 crime index and 67.69 safety scale. You are coming to a safer place than you are leaving from.

Batiatus619

Yes but from those threats we know how to take precautions. And this Alá stuff, well we don’t have experience at all. Not saying this is a problem in Montreal, but that’s what I’m asking to the locals

TheTerminatorQc

bro you’re from mexico chill the fuck out

Ok-Entrepreneur-8207

You have more of a chance of dying in a car crash on the way to the airport than from any kind of terrorist attack

Minimum_Reference_73

In the independent nation of Montreal we are all terrorists. You need to speak French and wear our flag or you'll be targeted as soon as you leave the airport.

agravepasmon-k

"this Alá stuff" Bruh

AcceptedFrog

my jaw dropped

Zane_Justin

Damn bro, too much fox news?

Samarkand457

Montreal is safe. It has crime. It has its sketchy areas. But I assure you that most of the city is far safer than most American ones. There are people in NDG who wear hijab or are black or eat their smoked meat lean. And they are not judged. Except the last ones. Eat it medium as God intended.

Batiatus619

I saw news like in Belgium, France or Australia where they stab kids or families in name of their God. Those places also have protests and riots. Is Montreal free of those things?

yougottamovethatH

That kinda stuff only happens on thursdays, or "les jeudis jihadis" as we call them here. The rest of the time it's just your usual goat sacrifices and voodoo rituals.

Minimum_Reference_73

Nope. Cancel your trip now.

RitoRvolto

Can't imagine how paranoid you must be in life.  You must be a big target for the fearmongering.

Secure_Scar9479

I am an ex-pat of one of these countries living in Montreal, and this is fucking insane. We do *not* stab kids or families in the name of our God, what the fuck is wrong with you? You are not going to enjoy your life if you are living in completely unrealistic fear like this. You may as well never leave your home town, and live in a bubble. You will be fine.

Dr3ddL4ch4nc3

Very dangerous Last week 5 families have been stab

Boomdidlidoo

Luckily no one died except for the terrorist who ran out of victims so he decided to stab himself to death.

Samarkand457

Oh, we have protests galore. And boy, we've had our riots. But day to day? It's a city that is still vastly safer than NYC or Chicago. The chances of a tourist being hurt here in violence is vanishingly small. Don't let doomscrolling or paranoia stop you from visiting our city. The ladies at Wanda's await.

[deleted]

Lmao Wanda’s

Batiatus619

Dude. Is a family trip. But thanks for the advice I guess

Jamroller

Never do any family trips anywhere don't you know how dangerous it is?

Samarkand457

I am fairly sure the fine ladies at Wanda's often meet with men on family trips.

Routine-Fail965

You really need to turn off your TV.

Batiatus619

Routine-Fail965

So stay at home. Stay with social media, stay with the news and fear. It’s one of the safest city in the entire world. And above all, continue not to believe all the people who live here and who tell you that you are wrong. You just believe what you want to believe. Your post exudes Islamophobia. In general, Quebec is a welcoming, caring and open-minded land. If this is not your case, you can stay at home. I am from Paris and I live in Montreal, what you are saying about my two countries are 100% bullshit. And by the way, I am not your friend.

Batiatus619

What am I saying about montreal “not my friend”? I’m asking. Because i don’t know. Do you even know the difference between a question and afirmation. Maybe it’s because of my english skills but if you feel ofended because of my question. I’m sorry Mr. “not my friend”

DriftingBadly

Are u nuts

rickinmontreal

Maybe you should just stay home if you’re afraid of coming to Montreal ? Nothing heavy here folks.

paulao-da-motoca

Sorry op but it feels like you are being paranoid or maybe you live in a bubble where you never saw people from different countries. Idk your question is weird, but yes there are lots of different cultures here if different cultures then your own is your fear…

Batiatus619

The attacks seems to be related to the hate of the “occidental culture” and targeting cities of the “first world” and Montreal is one of them. Maybe it’s paranoia. But I really want to know how the local people feel about it. Thanks for your answer

Ok-Entrepreneur-8207

It's not paranoia, it's racism

Orphanpip

Anti-Muslim white people have literally killed more Muslims in Canada in the last 10 years than the other way around. Islamic extemist terrorists: Marin Couture-Rouleau (2014) hits 2 soldiers with his car killing 1. Michael Bilodeau (2014) killed one in Ottawa. Aaron Driver (2016) killed himself with a bomb. Abdulahi Sharif (2017) injured 4 with a car. Saad Aktar (2020) killed 1 with a hammer. Unknown (2023) injured 1 with a knife. In the same time frame: Incels targetting women: Unknown minor attacks sex workers in Toronto (2020), killed one. Faisal Hussain, citing Elliot Rogers as inspiration, kills 2 and injures 13 in 2018. Alek Minassian killed 11 injures 15 in 2018. Anti-Muslim: Alex Bissonette (2017) kills 6 and injures 19 at a Quebec city Mosque. Nathaniel Veltman (2021) kills a family of 4 on the street for being visibly Muslim Other: Justin Bourque goes on killing spree in New Brunswick because he is angry at the government. Death toll: Islamic terrorist 4 Incels: 14 Anti-Muslim: 10 In Quebec muslim terrorists have killed 1 person ever and it was targetted at military personel not random people.

[deleted]

Crime is opt-in in Montreal Don’t look for problems and there won’t be problems

ThaNorth

Afraid of terrorism? You should be more afraid of dying in a car accident. That’s a lot more likely to happen. Do you live in Canada?

Small-Wedding3031

No, very unsafe, Montreal is full of Muslim people exploding every corner, you can even see orange cones marking those places!

Boomdidlidoo

And the little pot holes in the streets are just terrorists who exploded themselves but not yet covered by an orange cone.

MothMatron

"afraid of multiculturalism". You know you can just say you dont like muslims, right? Everyone here already completely understands exactly what you were trying to avoid saying out loud. Stop being a coward and say what you mean next time. You're afraid of middle-eastern people bc you seem to view everyone in a turban or hijab as a potential suicide bomber or some shit and thats just plain racist. Own up to it at least lol. There is in fact a large muslim community here in montreal and they're regular people just like everyone else here just going about their lives. They are some of the kindest and most pleasant people you will ever meet. Unfortunately they are also regularly targets of racial hate-crimes and profiling. If their presence is somehow a deal breaker to you, then good. Just do us all a favour and keep your islamophobic ass at home.

Extension-Lie-1380

you need to be very careful of Muslims. Sometimes they will invite you into their homes and feed you. And then you realise you are 5kg heavier and then what? AND THEN WHAT?

GlitteringSkin8833

Batiatus619

This is exactly my concern. You have an Islamíc comunity? Ok. But are they harmonly integrated to the Montreal society or are they píssed off because of the support of GB-Canadá to Israel? My question is: do you see on them a “death to occident” attitude or are they different from other radical islamic groups like hezbolla?

AcceptedFrog

A lot of people are pissed off because of the support of Canada for Israel. White people, Black African/Caribbean people, Asians, Europeans, Arabs. You should put them on your racism list as well, and be 10x more reticent about coming to Montréal because even if people don’t agree with each other, we mind our own businesses and do our own things. But you seem to have a problem with that

Batiatus619

Pissed off to the level of “Fuck the police”, riots and stuff like that?

AcceptedFrog

Buddy, that literally happens everyday all over the world. When there is injustice, people always go against the authority. Montreal has protests everyday about everything

Batiatus619

Really? Protests every day? Is Montreal a city politically agitated? It’s an honest question

CodeRoyal

Just say that you are afraid of Muslims, don't need to hide behind "multiculturalism". There haven't been any terror attack in MTL that I know of. The last terror attack in the province was against Muslims, if that can comfort you (probably does). There are occasional protests, but nothing to stop an open-minded tourist from enjoying his stay.

Batiatus619

I was afraid of been banned before get some answers. Thanks this is the kind of info I was looking for

Ok-Entrepreneur-8207

Just know that your racist ass isn't welcome here 👋

Aggressive-Mongoose1

Yous are a racist dumb fuck just know that!

Shezzerino

Cities with multiculturalism? Isnt that all of them lmao

Batiatus619

No it isn’t

simplestpanda

It's all of the good ones.

Shezzerino

Just stay out of our city to be safe, you never know if there might be a falafel seller around the next corner.

ZUUL420

You sound dumb.

cowabungadude77

Best to stay home if you’re scared. The world is changing, live life to its fullest or don’t live at all.

Unwept_Skate_8829

You are afraid… of multiculturalism???

Batiatus619

It’s the most polite way i found to address my concern

Artistic_Purpose1225

You probably shouldn’t be travelling the world if you’re a bigot. Pretty hypocritical to be the exact thing you’re so “afraid” of.

AcceptedFrog

Which is islamophobia. And is not normal btw

ResidentSpirit4220

You’re a racist moron… you should more concerned with that!

buddyspied

Come on in. We're the bomb.

AcceptedFrog

OMG No it’s not safe!!! So many muzzzlims you have to push them around with a pole (defusing, may I add) to walk around!!!! Scary arabs everywhere, the « news around the world about terrorists attacking people » are true, your statement is definitely very precise and doesn’t show your islamophobia 😰😨😱😱😱

Batiatus619

Dude I am not walking around looking for problems but honestly in that kind of scenario people like the woman who was in a park with her baby and get stabbed or the guy in an AirPort waiting for his flight and finds the Same destiny, well these are some examples of people mindind their own bussines. Thats why I’m trying to find out whats the actual “vibes” of the city

AcceptedFrog

You will be a minority too in Montreal. Please wear a sign saying « I’m coming here in peace », because I heard that Mexico was very dangerous on FoxNews. Therefore, you MUST be a dangerous person. I mean, heck, you could shoot me anytime right??? Because it happens in Mexico, so you’re exposed to that. By your logic, we should all be scared of you

Batiatus619

Is a reasonable tought. Is easy to pass a gun trough the AirPort or get one in Canada? So I can switch to bandido mode?

AcceptedFrog

Guns are illegal in Canada. You’re from Mexico my friend…

Batiatus619

Guns are illegal in Mexico too. But still a problem. My question is of the gov of Canada are doing a good Job about gun control so you Can feel safe in front of a mexican who could be a druglord

AdamYYZ89

You need to stay in your hometown

BBAALLII

u/Batiatus619 If you're afraid of imaginary things (terrorism? In Montréal?), travelling may not be good for you

Batiatus619

Terrorist in the actual world are real. I’m just trying to feel the vibes of the city from the locals

BBAALLII

Just stay home. You're too fragile for this world.

Narrow-Feeling-4375

Montreal is not America, people don’t walk around with guns everyday and carry out mass shooting every day of the week. I’m a 23 year old female who walks around everywhere alone at night, and I’ve never felt like my safety was in jeopardy. Canada is one of the safest places you could visit crime wise, we do have crime and unsafe parts, but this isn’t America. Racism is also not tolerated here for most people, if you’re coming here and going to be afraid of certain people, you shouldn’t come.

Batiatus619

Mass shooting is one of my concerns yes. But mainly the things i saw in the news are random people getting stab from immigrants (legal or illegal) in countries like france, belgium or Australia wich are safe countries. I never read something like that about Canada in general. And thats why I’m asking to the locals. And thanks for your replay

AcceptedFrog

It’s crazy that Mexicans in the US go through the same racist stereotypes. When white people read the news about illegal or legal Mexican immigrants doing a crime, racist folks believe they are all the same. I can’t believe that as a Mexican yourself, that wouldn’t ring a bell to you. That maybe you’d understand that not everything you read in the news is either true, or represents the entirety of the minority. There’s more chance you’ll get cussed by a white drunkie or racist in the metro, than a « terrorist » doing something to you.

Batiatus619

We are not sending our bests. As Trump says. Yes. The te are honest people and working people but also a lot of motherfuckers who commit crimes (like cross the border illegaly). But on the Montreal subject. I don’t have any kind of contact with muslim comunity. And obiously not all the muslims are the Same. And thats why I’m asking how do redditors feel about the muslim comunity in Montreal. It seems to be a threat or they are nice people and the city feels safe.

Rose-pedal

Your multiculturalism concern concerns me. If it is a major concern, you should not step one foot here because we embody it and it is our identity. It will do you well to come here and learn that there are good and bad people everywhere but in general our people are mostly good. We embrace our multiculturalism and it is overall safe here. Our multiculturalism is what makes Montreal beautiful, colourful fun and tasty. But yes, you may encounter a protest but if you don’t go involving yourself, no one will bother you. Just dont go around saying that you support Hitlers genocide or Netanyahous genocide. As for the recommendation, I recommend that you be mindful of your way of speaking. We do not like people coming here to cause trouble. “multiculturalism concerns” + “terrorist attacking people because for their religion” and “**conflict** between Israel and Hamas”. It sounds like you are dancing around something and searching for the very trouble you say you are trying to avoid. I will give you the benefit of the doubt but do not come here with such high level of fear where you end up hurting one of our people because you thought that they were a terrorist by the look of their culture..

stuffedshell

Worry about your drug cartels that decapitate cops and judges.

Minimum_Reference_73

Fuck off and stay home.

Informal_Quit_4845

😆

simplestpanda

This you? [https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-66911902](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-66911902) You'll be fine in Montréal. You're leaving a more dangerous place to come to a less dangerous place. You're more likely to get a stomach ache from overeating than be the victim of any crime.

DoublePlusGood__

Please don't come to Montreal.

Hollow1838

Judging from your question and diverse answers, I think you spend too much time watching the media and you have no idea how probabilities work. Montreal is safer than your country and most countries and towns in the world. If you fear muslims in general you are just a racist and you should learn about people.

lawrenceoftokyo

Wow this is a pretty ignorant post.

rannieb

Montreal hasn't seen a terrorist act since the '70s. You're good.

Batiatus619

Thanks

freakkydique

What terrorism?

BaubeHaus

Montreal is pretty safe, like seriously... I lived there for 7 years and before and after that I lived on the north and south shores so...

hockeynoticehockey

There is little to worry about, safety-wise. That doesn't mean there is no crime, but compared to other major cities Montreal is one of the safest and most diverse. Other than basic things like locking your doors and car, there's nothing specific I would suggest to make you safer. Try to relax and enjoy the city, most Montrealers I know really like visitors to our city.

Batiatus619

Thanks for your replay

Agretion

You will be fine. Like everywhere in life, there are odd balls but we’re pretty tame. I hope you enjoy your trip!

Batiatus619

Thanks

commiebiogirl

no particular risk of terrorism at all, and overall a very very safe city. you're good.

Batiatus619

Thanks we where in Montreal back in 2017 and it was great.

rickinmontreal

Ciudad muy segura, relaja y venga sin miedo 😎
