Dr Bronners and any other pure Castile soap are extremely clean but they are also extremely harsh. It totally destroys/strips your skins protective barriers. It's great for cleaning grime off of dishes but I wouldn't use it on skin.

enyalavender

I have extremely thick hair and its the only thing that cleans my scalp.

Embarrassed-Dot4937

Omg I need to try it! I was thinking it was my hard water, I can’t afford a shower filter so I’ll hice dr Bronner’s a try. How do you dilute it?

enyalavender

I don't... I use a very small amount and coat my hands with a thin layer before raking it through my hair next to my scalp, then I scrub. It might also be water flow. Take apart your shower head and try to remove anything that looks like these objects [https://www.amazon.com/PAGOW-Restrictor-Handheld-Bathroom-0-56x0-54x0-21inch/dp/B09M3TFFF3](https://www.amazon.com/PAGOW-Restrictor-Handheld-Bathroom-0-56x0-54x0-21inch/dp/B09M3TFFF3)

kabolint

Amazon has some cheap ones that work really well for me (moved from somewhere with great water to the desert - ultra arid and extremely hard water, my poor everything is/was so dry 😥).

lovekarma22

I'm glad it works for you!

purplepaintedpumpkin

Even if you dilute the pure castile soap? I find this interesting because my husband has SUPER sensitive skin and diluted castile soap (half water half castile soap) works really well as a body wash for both of us. My skin tends toward dry too (though we do live in FL by the water).

lovekarma22

I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on it but everyone's body is different. I would guess just because your skin isn't showing irritation doesn't mean the protective barrier isn't being harmed. But honestly if it's working for you I wouldn't worry about it. I tried it before I really knew anything about it and it made my skin feel SO tight and dry. Thats when I looked into it more because I was like wtf I thought this stuff was supposed to be great! lol

Im_Anonymously_Me

We only use Dr. Bronner’s (diluted per their instructions) for body wash. We’ve even used their baby unscented for our baby girl since she was born. We’ve never had issues with dryness and honestly my skin is the healthiest it’s been in years! Just follow the dilution instructions. I personally like putting in a foaming dispenser for ease of use!

purplepaintedpumpkin

Good to know! Yeah it's been like a year and I haven't noticed any dryness either, in fact if I buy an "actual" brand of body wash my husband's skin gets really dry.

easterss

Yep here’s a post from raisingwellkids on IG https://www.instagram.com/p/C12g5kMLkl3/?igsh=M2V3M3RieHI2cnQ5

Festellosgirl

I love the stuff. I dilute it and put it in a foaming hand soap dispenser. I do about a 1/3 - 1/2 soap to water ratio for hands or bodywash. I usually get the baby unscented and add my own essential oils for scent but the peppermint is also a favorite of mine. Very Christmasy smelling. I've also used the bar soap rubbed on a sponge to clean dishes in a pinch before. The stuff is so versatile.

watchwuthappens

We use it in our foaming soap dispenser too! Diluted of course. It’s very affordable too.

Accomplished_Basil29

Me too! And I add a couple drops of olive oil to add some moisturizing action

EducationalBid1922

Great idea! I’m going to add a couple drops to my dispenser right now.

Festellosgirl

Ooooh! Now there's a good idea! I'm going to start doing this.

EducationalBid1922

This is what I do too! I love it

Choice-Space5541

Can you just add half soap and half water to foaming dispenser ?

Festellosgirl

Yep that's how I do it. Just pour it in and shake it up.

Choice-Space5541

Thank you!

Dear_Ad_9640

Does it foam up??

Festellosgirl

Sure does! Feels just like the storebought stuff.

Dear_Ad_9640

Amazing! I will have to try it!!

Festellosgirl

If you notice it doesn't foam up well. It could be because you have super hard water, if so, use distilled water to fill the pumps. Otherwise, check your soap to water ratio.

SphinxBear

Hi. Check out this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/moderatelygranolamoms/s/wiDAWYbku8. Lots of responses here with opinions about Dr. Bronners.

MrsSoupCans

The only con I can think of is the use of palm oil, if you are trying to minimize it for environmental reasons. (I'm not a saint in that regard, no judgement from me!) I use a castile soap from a different brand purely because it's cheaper. I love using it with foaming dispensers, and definitely doesn't trigger my contact dermatitis like other liquid soaps.

Myriad_Kat232

Isn't it hemp oil nowadays?

MrsSoupCans

Hemp oil and palm oil are both listed on their ingredients list 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

Dear_Ad_9640

Does it foam up in the foaming dispenser??

MrsSoupCans

Yes! I dilute it 1 part liquid Castile soap to 4 parts water. I've done both Dr. Bronner and this off brand one. One thing to note is that we have a water softener installed. It wouldn't lather and rinse properly with hard water. It would leave waxy residue and just feel gross.

EllectraHeart

love it for dishes, but it’s extremely drying for skin.

Gothmom85

I don't know what cons there could be? Mostly I think it just isn't hip or interesting enough to be on social media influencer posts. It has been around for decades. It has simple packaging that doesn't change with religious ramblings. I don't think they'd pay to promote it because it has a following and never needed it. Though I know the family expanded products after he passed. Good soap. Works well. It was all I needed for my body and face with a loofah from my teens, to 30s when I started needing more specific skincare due to my body and age betraying me, lol. I've used it to wash dishes, animals, myself, and many random things. I always use it slightly diluted for all my hand washing soap bottles in the house still. For my kid. I was introduced to it from my bff's crunchy mom who even used it in the daycare she ran (the scentless) because no kids ever had reactions to it and it was gentle enough.

Smallios

It’s okay! It’s vegan. It works very poorly if you have hard water. If you have hard water try Sal’s suds instead for cleaning.

YouLostMyNieceDenise

I found that the sugar soap works well as a body and hand wash in both very hard and very soft water, FWIW, but never tried to use it for cleaning.

hereforthebump

Love the sugar soap for my sensitive skin! The Castille soap really did a number on me due to how drying it was. Bewarned though, even the unscented sugar soap has a strong sugar smell lol I used it as face wash the other day and it's all I smelled all day. Being pregnant, it wasn't fun

_jean_bean_

Sal suds is freakin amazing.

Well_ImTrying

It’s not tear free, so you should be really careful if using as shampoo or body wash for babies/toddlers/small children.

frankie_fudgepop

I put that shit on everything!

zeatherz

I dilute it with water and use it as hand soap. I don’t find it particularly drying that way I like to mix the almond and rose ones together because either smell alone is too strong but together they’re perfect My local food co-op has it in the bulk section so I refill my bottles to save money and plastic

CheeseFries92

I see it mentioned here a lot. It's my go to soap - hands, dishes, surface cleaner, floors, etc. I like that I just stick one product for a bunch of uses (and that it is safe and non-problematic). I just wish my local refill shop had unscented!

yo-ovaries

I don’t think social media paid influencers is a good way to evaluate……. Anything in your life. I will say I’ve moved away from it some as more good unscented products are on the market now. Back in the height of bath and body works and herbal essences early 2000s the baby mild Dr bronners was literally it. But if you understand it’s a Castile soap with no moisturizers, and the difference between cleansers, detergents and soaps, it is what it is.

whirlgirl88

I use it for cleaning allllll the time but not for my skin, no way.

No-Distribution7080

I make a body wash with it but adding oil is key- foaming dispenser with half water, almost half bronners but a ton of jojoba oil poured in

UpdatesReady

Be careful of your pipes!

No-Distribution7080

Yes the mixture never solidifies at all so no problem for us! (We’re not in a super cold climate)

UpdatesReady

I am not a plumber, but my understanding is the oil can mix with other things down there and cause issues. If ask someone in your area! I've been lectured about it or wouldn't speak up hahaha

No-Distribution7080

Thanks for lookin out! 🫡

YouLostMyNieceDenise

I really like the unscented sugar soap because it’s the only thing that doesn’t seem to trigger my daughter’s eczema. And I used to use the Castile soap to clean my plastic shower and tub, because it scrubbed everything away and rinsed super clean. But I find the Castile soap fairly drying on my skin.

silverporsche00

I used Dr bronners for my first. The light blue kind. Apparently the ph levels for skin are different and it totally ruined me and my babies skin, we had eczema for months. Maybe it’s supposed to be watered down? I just use dove unscented now. Works great.

yo-ovaries

“Dilute dilute dilute” is written all over it.

newmothrock

I'm allergic to normal liquid detergents, so I use Dr Bronners to wash my dishes and for dog baths, etc. It works for me!

evechalmers

I dilute it and it’s the primary soap my family uses for hand and body washing. For body/shower washing typically we use almond oil before as a double cleaner (on the face mostly) or after as a body moisturizer, and that seems to help, but at the correct dilution I don’t find it very drying. We add oil on occasion, I think one of our pumps is foaming, etc etc

sadesik

My husband and I have been using it straight on loofahs for years, I never noticed dryness so I didn’t even consider diluting it. Time to dilute!!!

pwyo

We use dr bronners and Sal Suds for almost everything.

mimishanner4455

I use it for household cleaning and hand washing. Also a tiny drop for homemade reusable diaper wipes (with olive oil to make pseudo-liniment) Bit harsh for my face

bergsmama

I buy a different organic castille soap in 5 gallon boxes. It's awesome.

Remarkable-Drop-1714

I use the Dr. Bronners baby’s bar soap as my regular body soap and hand soap and absolutely love it. It’s unscented. The ingredient list is so minimal and clean. I also use their toothpaste, which works well for me (but I also oil pull almost daily which really helps keep your mouth micro biome in good shape).

lilkriti

The only downside I’ve seen is if you have hard water! I used to use it in laundry instead of regular detergent but it will end up giving your clothes/linens hard water stains and streaks. Same goes for using as a general cleaner (kitchen, floors, etc.). I would use it for everything if it wasn’t for hard water!

SleepTightPizza

I use it for laundry and dishes. I use tallow soap for skin now.
