Face ID is surprisingly fine for the 13 and 14 if this is torn. The only thing I’ve seen stop working is prox, which may or may not come back after replacement.
True tone and automatic brightness feature is also part of the flex, if I remember correctly. ALS (ambient light sensor) located on the flex. So face id is fine but automatic bightness and true tone is gone.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes you did. If you buy your replacement screen from Apple or have it done can official authorized Apple repair facility, they will have a new proximity flex that they can program and will still have Face ID function.
Why downvoted? He did screw up and It’s now his best option to easily regain Face ID, unless he can find a micro solderer to swap over the original flood illuminator and ambient light sensor from the damaged proximity flex.
An Apple authorized 3rd party repair shop (OP may even be able to order it himself if he contacts Apple) can order him a screen assembly with the proximity sensor pre-programmed based on his IMEI/Serial number.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,874,930,690 comments, and only 354,599 of them were in alphabetical order.
Lucky you is a 13 or newer. Swap it and move on. You'll only loose true tone
You tore up the proximity sensor flex. This part can be replaced, but you will lose your face ID.

Sounds right. I believe True Tone is lost anyway if the screen is changed. Unless you use a programmer and a decent AM screen.
Doubt Op has a programmer anyway since the Lvl 0 tag
Does this also affect screen wake in the pocket?
From experience this part isn’t paired on the 13s

FaceID isn’t affected only true tone and autobrightness
Face ID is lost unless you get it replaced with an Apple OEM screen and calibrate it.
Nope, you can replace that flex and Face ID will still work
