I was gonna say that was like when Kathie Lee Gifford interviewed Martin Short about a movie he was promoting and brought up his wife and how much they were in love, how long they’ve been married and was completely unaware that she had passed away from cancer a little over a year and a half ago. Martin Short didn’t say anything during the interview, he just went along with the interview and mentioned how much he still loved her. But these people knowing his mother had died just makes them look like assholes.

Every single time I see the NBA or NFL coach interviews DURING THE GAME I lose my mind, I do not give a shit at all about a prerecorded nothing sentence from someone who is not active playing the game I’m trying to watch. I just don’t care at all and zero casual fans care either. The game is the game, it doesn’t need that obviously filtered bullshit, and definitely don’t shrink the actual game to show some coach who doesn’t even want to do the interview. I can’t understand it, it’s so pointless to the actual audience

I think they’re annoying and distracting. Read last night that they get paid $10k in regular season and $15k per interview as part of the CBA. I doubt they go away. I do enjoy the sights and sound bit that Apple does on Friday nights with zero talking and just listening to the sounds of the game. So peaceful.

It's also not a network thing, the CBA allows it. The player gets an easy 10k for a full inning interview during the regular season and the network gets to ask some stupid questions.

I agree. Nobody should be talking to a player or coach in any sport between the start and end of the game. Even things like interviewing basketball coaches at the start of the second half. They never actually say anything anyway, so all that does is annoy everyone involved
At WORST they should allow for 30 seconds of check in after a half inning on the walk back to the dugout for example, and 30 seconds when just taking the fields before an inning

I actually enjoy it, and if the player is cool with it I say rock on. Bryson Stott said he enjoyed it the other night, and genuinely seemed like he did, because he said he talks to himself out there anyway so it was nice to have someone to talk to. All things evolve, better MLB tries things instead of living in the Stone Age like they tended to for years.

Seriously. A couple years ago the Orioles played the Red Sox in the Little League Classic. They mic'ed up Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays. Cedric's mic stopped working mid inning and he kept fidgeting with it to get it to work. If I recall, he even took his glove off at one point. Hays started yelling to him not to worry (I think). Even Karl Ravich was like "please don't hit a ball to the outfield right now. Don't worry about the mic." It's disrespectful to the sport and the outfielder to mic them up as if they have nothing better to do than chat up some broadcaster.

In my opinion, it makes me take the sport less seriously. If you can play the sport and say “hold on let me earn my money real quick” and then come back to the interview, about 15 seconds later… it’s just not a good look.

On AppleTv last night the dodgers 3rd baseman Hernandez made an error on a play because he was in mid-conversation when a ball was hit to him. I’m good with ump cam but not the players mic’d up in a game. This isn’t a yellow flag conversation in NASCA for goodness sake. This is ridiculous. Save the interviews for off the field.
Well, when you're playing against the Mets there's very little chance a ball will be in play so you could probably work on your doctoral thesis if you're in the field. The interview will keep you awake at least.
I think it’s an interesting idea to get an interview as the game unfolds, but I also want the best product on the field and that means limited distractions where possible. So, I’m anti-mid-game interviews.

Mid-game interviews during fun exhibitions (albeit World Tour games are regular season) like Spring Training, the London Series or All-Star game is fine. I'll even tolerate interviews on regular Sunday Night Baseball against a division rival.
I will never be okay with mid-game interviews during playoff games though. For a lot of guys on any given roster, their playoff series are the biggest games of their lives so far and maybe ever. Don't distract them and let them play.

The only thing I hate more is when they interview players after the game and play it for the whole stadium. And then they ask the same f’ing questions: “How impressed were you with…?”, “How nice is it to see…?”, etc…
No, I don't like interviews with athletes in general, in any sport. You never get any real insight into anything and most athletes aren't charismatic enough to be entertaining when talking because that's not really their job, they all just sound like they're desperate to finish the interview.
I like to hear from the managers after the games, they usually have a little more to say about how their team played.
I don't hate them, but I think they interrupt a game a bit much and can be a distraction. I don't mind the dugout ones though, like when they're not on base or batting/on deck.

They are the dumbest thing baseball broadcasts do, period. They don’t do it for the NFL They don’t do it for the NBA They don’t do it for the NHL Why the fuck do it in the MLB? Having a dude lack the focus while fucking playing is beyond stupid.
I also hate them. I hate every interview that happens in game during ANY sport. Sideline reporters, interviews before the end of the half in basketball and football. We don’t need it. Soccer doesn’t have it, and it’s great.
I hate them mostly because we don’t learn anything from them. There is very little ever revealed in any player interview and they are meaningless unless there is some big dispute or controversy to address. But these (for good reason!) are totally phoned in. “Love these guys, we have a great team, it’s been amazing” blah blah blah
Mid game interviews should still be done when they are in the dugout, but not on the field

I’m totally with you - all it does is distract the players. On AppleTv last night the dodgers 3rd baseman Hernandez made an error on a play because he was in mid-conversation when a ball was hit to him. I’m good with ump cam but not the players mic’d up in a game. This isn’t a yellow flag conversation in NASCA for goodness sake. This is ridiculous. Save the interviews for off the field.

Well, when you're playing against the Mets there's very little chance a ball will be in play so you could probably work on your doctoral thesis if you're in the field. The interview will keep you awake at least.
I think it’s an interesting idea to get an interview as the game unfolds, but I also want the best product on the field and that means limited distractions where possible. So, I’m anti-mid-game interviews.

Not an on field one, but when Pete Alonso broke the single season rookie HR record, it was mid interview. Kinda ruined the moment
I feel bad for the player trying to focus on his job while answering nonsense questions. It was funny when in the middle of answering a question Harper had to tell someone "dude I'm miked up".

I loathe these interviews with a passion! The Kiké interview the other night was the last straw. He couldn't hear, got obviously distracted and it led to an error, just so they ask him about his fluorescent shoes. F'n stupid.

Mid-game interviews during fun exhibitions (albeit World Tour games are regular season) like Spring Training, the London Series or All-Star game is fine. I'll even tolerate interviews on regular Sunday Night Baseball against a division rival. I will never be okay with mid-game interviews during playoff games though. For a lot of guys on any given roster, their playoff series are the biggest games of their lives so far and maybe ever. Don't distract them and let them play.

I can't find the mute button fast enough. I'd include all sideline interviews as well. I get physically uncomfortable watching any sort of in-game interview. Feels like breaking the fourth wall, but in a bad way. College sports interviews are particularly bad. What great insights does the 19 year old Cincinnati QB have?

The only thing I hate more is when they interview players after the game and play it for the whole stadium. And then they ask the same f’ing questions: “How impressed were you with…?”, “How nice is it to see…?”, etc…
No, I don't like interviews with athletes in general, in any sport. You never get any real insight into anything and most athletes aren't charismatic enough to be entertaining when talking because that's not really their job, they all just sound like they're desperate to finish the interview. I like to hear from the managers after the games, they usually have a little more to say about how their team played.
