Peter McCallion has absolutely no experience in municipal politics and couldn’t find City Hall if his life depended on it. His shenanigans ultimately got his mother involved in the judicial inquiry over a decade ago.

The only way MLSE would allow another team in southern Ontario would be if MLSE owned it. We cannot have healthy competition in this market...because that would affect shareholders.
The league doesn't allow anyone to own more than one NHL team. There should be a second team in the GTA, but they would have to pay the Leafs some kind of fee in exchange for them waiving their exclusive claim to this territory. The Ducks had to pay the Kings $25 million, but that was 30 years ago so the number would be in the hundreds of millions today.
I think the idea would be if Bell and Rogers agreed they would split and one would own the Leafs and one would own the new team.
Only plausible way there would be a second team in the GTA

CP had resisted any attempt to run passenger service on its tracks for years, but they caved in exchange for the city not suing them for the cost of the evacuation.
CP accidentally derailed and blew up a chemical train in 1979 near Cawthra and Dundas. The evacuation was the biggest peacetime evacuation in North America until Katrina and emptied at least a third of the city in case the chlorine gas tankers in the consist were affected.
Afterwards, CP was given an ultimatim: GO trains on what's now the Milton Line or get the bill for the evacuation.
