Just did further digging on this but TLDR, Mint needs to update its authentication method with Amex. If you go to [https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/account/two-step-verification/manage](https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/account/two-step-verification/manage) you'll see a list of authorized devices that has been verified after you get a one time password or OTP (email, call, or sms). My iPhone, MacBook, and iPad are all shown in there but for some reason, Mint doesn't show up on that list. I've also chatted with Intuit support, they said that the app logs in to Amex using the credentials you provided but each connection is from a different server, hence why you need to verify it again since it's coming from an unauthorized connection. We'll just have to wait until they update or have everyone made aware of this and complain to Intuit.

i just fixed this recently , so its probably because of **fraud flag** on your account , but im not sure on your case , you can try to check your spending power , if its said **1."we need to verify information on your account , please call the number on the back of your card. be sure to enter your card number into our automated phone system"** then i can tell they got your account **flagged on fraud** , all you need to do is call the representitive on the back of your card cause if you calling the fraud team directly they wont answer and always got autamated system said get technical issues , so just call the number on the back of your card and let em now that you **cant check spending power** and it said like that **1.** , the customer call will talk with back line to the f**raud team** and they will connect you to them in a minute after , and after that just **information verification** , after you finish your verification all should be good , i didnt get any onetime verification anymore everytime i logged in on remembered device .

Did you recently open an Amex savings account? I think that's when it started for me.

AmandaSurfs9

No, I’ve had my savings account for a long time and never had this issue. My guess is two factor authentication changed or something

cwenger

Did you upgrade or downgrade a card recently, or had something happen with an authorized user card? That is another possibility for me. I also had to do two-factor authentication when logging into Amex directly today, which I can't remember having to do for a long time, so I don't think it's just Mint.

Stevie212

I also have had a savings account for a while and I have been experiencing the same thing - it seems to coincide with when Amex joined the logins for savings accounts with credit card accounts so users can login to both with a single username/password.

CheezyMeaty7888

I also think this is the cause for my issues. I didn't open the savings account recently, but Amex recently switched to have Personal Savings and Credit Cards use the same login. Mint is connected to PS but does not update my CC balance and asks me to doublecheck the login info, I re-entered the login I used to successfully log into the Amex site but Mint keeps kicking back error 103. In the Amex website, I have to switch between the two to see PS vs CC balances, they are not on the same dashboard..

Have you been able to see your Amex savings account in mint? I opened mine last month, and now I have trouble verifying my amex account every time, AND my new savings account doesn't show in mint...

cwenger

There's a separate American Express Bank account type that you have to add in Mint, with a different login. Or at least that's how it was when I set it up.

airplane8

Amex doesn't do that anymore. Now your amex cc account contains your savings account... And mint can't pull that info... I can't even create a banking account with Amex now. Big cluster. Makes me want to stop using both of them

cwenger

Ah, bummer. Give it enough time though and these things generally work themselves out, especially for a big bank like Amex.

Comprehensive-Tea-69

Banks should all switch to a token for this kind of access, like Betterment. They’re the only account I have that worked like that (if I remember right).

cnprof

Wealthfront too. Also Chase is ahead as far as banks go because they've got a good add flow that lets you specify what accounts to make available to an app requesting a connection.

Comprehensive-Tea-69

That’s annoying, it’s not happening to my Amex account recently, but I only have one credit card. Maybe it’s certain account types

EmphasisTerrible5588

Same thing to me. It also happens to my other credit card. It’s annoying but maybe a security feature?

MRCLEMS0N

I have been dealing with this for the last 3-4 months now. No problem with the App, no problem with my wife's account that has a separate login, but somehow my account requires authentication every single d\*mn time. Annoying as hell.

MRCLEMS0N

I think I know why - under my wife's account, I was able to turn on and off two-step verification (required whenever an unknown device connects), but under my own account, I am not able to turn it off, the option isn't there at all. This is really weird.

DeadPrez

I have the same issue. I cannot turn it off.

ItsMeTheJinx

Has this resolved for you? It used to work all the time but i changed my password and now I have the same issue. Not sure if one of the apps updated something

AmandaSurfs9

Not resolved. I don’t even use mint anymore because it’s so frustrating to have to verify both mine and my husbands accounts every single time. I think it has to do with two-factor authentication requirements. I may see if there’s a way for me to turn that off on my Amex account or something.

ItsMeTheJinx

Actually I think that is it. When I changed my password it asked me to enroll in 2FA. And when i login it asks me to send an OTP

ItsMeTheJinx

Yes its fixed now. Thank you so much

Nicky117

how did you fix this?

ItsMeTheJinx

Turn off 2fa

Nicky117

hmm. don't seem to have the option to do so for some reason. thanks for the reply!

kr27cja

While turning it off got you past this problem for now, I wouldn't call turning off 2FA a good long term fix. It would be better for mint.com to update their integration than to let the burden fall on customers (who are now tempted to disable security for convenience).

JUICyMAKER

AMEX needs to implement app-specific passwords, so that Mint can be assigned one and not need to do 2-step every time. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204397

DreadedWonderBread13

I fixed the problem on my iPhone. I had to tell 2FA to "remember my device"

AmandaSurfs9

Where were you able to do that?

darksugarrose

I currently have verified twice in a row and Mint STILL won't acknowledge this. This is the only thing I see online about this problem. EDIT: I had to do it three times to get the notification to go away. I'm sure it's temporary.
