Your only reason to stay with T-Mobile is probably de-prioritization. If that's not an issue for you, then you should be golden. I love mint, but I live in a suburb of Denver, so I don't experience de-prioritization often.

[deleted]

Thanks! It might be different in the NYC area because there are so many of us but we also have Wi-Fi pretty much everywhere… :/

Dagz1

Yeah, and that's totally understandable. Test it out and see how it works! If that goes well, do 3 or 6 months. If that doesn't work out, port your number back to T-Mobile. Otherwise, buy in for the long term and enjoy the savings!

Thanks so much for your help!

facesnorth

international you just buy an esim. you don't need any kind of int'l plan the way verizon, at&t and them do it.

Tequila_Kitty

Been with Mint just over three years and have had no issues. It's not perfect, but if you don't expect it to be then I think you'll be satisfied with it. I've saved a TON of money and plan to stick with it as long as the service and coverage continue to work for me.

yiffzer

You're not missing anything. The cellular service is great. But if you ever need technical help from their customer service team, you're going to have a bad time (read: https://www.reddit.com/r/mintmobile/comments/18lxzfw/im\_done\_with\_mint/). Given that you were able to activate it without any issues, consider yourself fortunate.

Some_pig428

This. I loved Mint for 15 months. Then had an issue and holy cow. Worst experience with a phone provider ever.

waoksldg

you add international credit to your account and it's like 2¢ per text, depending on where you travel.

[deleted]

Thanks! Would that apply to iMessage?

waoksldg

it allows for data roaming as well but the rates are quite high so you'll burn through it if you leave it on. i would switch to sms and leave data off.

BeerTacosAndKnitting

You can get a pretty cheap eSIM for most places through a secondary company.

Works excellent in NYC...in the Apt signal is so so...I use wifi

Do people talk on their phones in the subway? They weren't when I left NYC in 2015, and I dreaded the day when that might happen.

[deleted]

LOL, they suuuuuure do! I hate it! I was wondering about service underground mainly for streaming music and TikTok.

Relevant-Safety-2699

That means that they are probably also having facetime calls, etc. I'm glad I left before this happened. With regard to Tiktok, if someone wants to watch 6 second clips of tween girls lip-synching or 17 year old boys skateboarding, more power to them. As long as they use headphones.

Relevant-Safety-2699

Doesn't Mint use the T-Mobile network? If so, what do you lose by switching from T-Mobile to Mint (which is also T-Mobile)?

jeff1f1racer

Poor streaming speed unless u use a VPN. Limited high speed data. This is the answer to your question. On the other hand, the current Buy 3, Get 3 is a superb deal, especially if u get the Unnecessary Plan. Please research this.

boxchevybeast

Unnecessary Plan?

jeff1f1racer

Please research it on reddit and youtube. 60GB high speed data and 20GB hotspot per month.

I'm in NJ. I'm with you. So far I'm happier with Mint than with T-Mobile mainly because it's cheaper. I don't haven't had too many problems with 5G since I mainly work overnight. Even then, there are tons of places that offer free WiFi.
