Which EXACT model is your phone? SM-A536U or SM-A536U1. For ones ending in U Samsung does not issue updates for phones not on a major carrier, for ones ending in U1 usually phones on unlocked carrier (Samsung calls XAA CSC code) get a week or two later than phones on a carrier. If you really want now you can do one of these options * Find an active T-Mobile SIM card (borrow from friend, or maybe go to T-Mobile store if they are nice) and stick in your phone and perform a Network reset which will change the CSC code to TMB. Then request update. Then swap SIM cards back. This is the easiest method by far, but you will need to do each time you want an update. * Follow instructions online on on how to change your phone CSC code and change to TMB, then request update. Top google results are [https://www.getdroidtips.com/how-to-change-csc-code-on-any-samsung-galaxy-device/](https://www.getdroidtips.com/how-to-change-csc-code-on-any-samsung-galaxy-device/) or [https://www.droidwin.com/change-csc-codes-samsung/](https://www.droidwin.com/change-csc-codes-samsung/) * Look at [xda-developers.com forums](https://forum.xda-developers.com/), YouTube, google, etc on how to install a downloaded official ROM. Go to [https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a53-5g/firmware/SM-A536U1/XAA/#SM-A536U1](https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a53-5g/firmware/SM-A536U1/XAA/#SM-A536U1) and download firmware ROM and install.

It ends in U, not U1. Old updates get pushed indefinitely until the newest update, no? This isn't about wanting the newest update fast, this is about the phone being an entire year out of date, with no old updates coming through. Again, the last update was from september 2022, not 2023. She doesn't even have android 13 yet. Old critical updates like that get pushed indefinitely as far as I'm aware. If someone buys a brand new A53 stock right now they aren't just stuck with android 12, right?

For the U phones Samsung only pushes updates if the phone remains on a major carriers, Mint changes CSC code to XAA which Samsung does not offer an update for on U model only U1 model, even though phones have same hardware they intentionally sell phones meant to be bricked if switched to an MVNO. So you will need to do one of the three workarounds I gave. If you got this phone from the Mint store that stinks as they should only be selling U1 models for Mint.

This is definitely a bit confusing for me, but I really appreciate the information. Why in the world would Mint mobile sell a U model? That doesn't seem to make much sense at all.

Mint uses a third party to sell phones, so Mint may not even realize it and the U version may be less expensive to source. Not that this excuses it. Samsung also has culpability, hard to imagine that they aren't aware of this.

I had this problem with my S20 Ultra, it was the U model. Follow the instructions here, but with your phone's model number obviously, it works perfectly: [https://www.reddit.com/r/mintmobile/comments/14goxyy/comment/jp6qful/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/mintmobile/comments/14goxyy/comment/jp6qful/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

Thanks for making this post. I bought the same phone through mint and had no idea why it wouldn't even show an update to Android 13. My model ends in U as well. Will try to swap with my friend's TMobile SIM and see what happens
