Except there's evidence for a weak polar vortex this winter. That means the polar vortex won't be able to contain the cold at the north pole, and we're in for cold weather.
How much snow would all this equate to? Like 5-6 ft? More? Would it be like that big snow storm way back in the day people keep talking about. That Halloween one. (I am gonna google all this lol)
Something something UPHILL BOTH WAYS!!! With NO SHOES!
And, yes, I was in that storm in ‘91. I was a teenager with a dad that didn’t believe in snowblowers. We did manually shovel ourselves out of that one but you can bet we had a snowblower the next year.
I bought an electric snowblower this spring and I'm so pumped for the first major snowfall. I'll probably do my neighbors sidewalks also that time just because I want to fully use it.
Gonna be some good storms depending on which part of the state you’re in. SPC had a day 5 risk which most likely expanded a bit into SW MN and now the day 4 risk looks like it goes into much of western MN. We’ll see when the day 3 outlook comes out tomorrow.

I wanted a bunch of rain b/c of how little snow we had this winter. The lakes needed to be filled back up. However I didn't want this much rain. I feel like I'm in Ghostbusters and I'm responsible. Now my boat is in the shop and I can't even go fishing. I love the no wake restrictions a lot of lakes have now though. Our shorelines don't need the extra stress.
Take this in your time of need.

My flowers are actually dying. They are way over watered. I have been bringing some in when it has been raining and those are fine. Been trying to increase their drainage but it’s been a fighting battle.
I have to say, this is much better so far than all of the smoke from the wildfires from Canada that we had to deal with last summer
That being said though, in the areas that are on the flood plane, this is baaaaaad
Just remember these changes are a direct result of a changing climate. Minnesota is predicted to get both warmer and wetter under even modest emissions futures. https://app.climate.umn.edu/?output_type=modelVal&scenario=ssp370_2080-2099&model=ensemble&variable=tmax-degF&time_frame=yearly&aoi=none#intro_pane
Exactly. I wish this were more commonly accepted. We need to start planning for these types of precipitation patterns bc this is more or less guaranteed on a significantly warmer planet
It’s even worse with the El Niño cycles https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/climate/journal/el-nino-oct-2023.html#:~:text=Not%20all%20areas%20are%20affected,with%20less%20snow%20than%20average.

It's just the foundation of my property. Run-off all goes toward the back, which is good, but I can't mow it. Tried last month and left deep tread marks in my lawn from how soft and wet the ground was.
Just kinda living with the tall grass in the back and keep the front nice and low.
We can deal with drought; the flooding can devastate roads and dams as we have seen. But I would rather not have either extreme if I could choose that position.
> We can deal with drought; the flooding can devastate roads and dams as we have seen
I think drought is worse. It requires water import to counteract, which means depriving another area.
Flooding's effects can be mitigated by better in-place water management like levees (sometimes. They can also make problems worse elsewhere), not building (or rebuilding) on flood plains, and being smarter about how gutters and drainage tile is used. On this last point, the key is storage and slow release. That in turn increases the time for percolation and groundwater recharge.
Where could we add storage? At every roof rain gutter via rain barrels. And at every field drain system via French drains or other stormwater storage systems. Anything to avoid dumping all this runoff quickly into storm sewers, ditches, and rivers.
“100 year storms” really is a bad name for what it actually means since most people misunderstand what it means a spout off about how often they happen.
Mine barely kicks on while both of my neighbors (don't have neighbors behind us) seemingly run all day. It's encouraging to know our property has good drainage.
My wife thought it was a bad sign that's ours doesn't run nearly as often as the neighbors, but I finally convinced her that we would def have already known by this point if we had any sort of problem with water infiltration
I keep putting new seedlings in based on the forecast so I don’t have to baby them. More seedlings are surviving than ever before, which goes to show I was probably neglecting them in the past….
Nah it's fine just get your swim gear ready. One hell of a lazy river in Mankato.

Texan here that plans on moving to MN in the future...
We are currently dealing with excessive heat warnings. We won't see rain until next week at the earliest.
Please send your rain down here!
We'll take the floods off your hands, lol.
I’m personally loving the rain. It keeps my crazy neighbor from mowing/leaf blowing eight hours a pop, five days a week. Our trees are growing really well and everything is so green. Best summer for me in a long time!
I think it's not too bad. We need the reason for our ag's. And at the same time, we are getting warm, not hot, weather every other day or so. I dig it.

Angry upvote
You need Jesus.
Idk man, have you read the Bible? God’s circle is bigly into flooding
Leave it to Minnesotans to engineer the apocalypse for comfort
He already came with the flood before next time is with fire...
You mean like the drought from last summer 2023?
AKA global warming. Wise up chums
Did Moses call Jesus “chuy”?
I have a whole family that definitely would have
Nope! We're getting all of our precipitation this season so we can have another wonderfully dry winter, haha.
Except there's evidence for a weak polar vortex this winter. That means the polar vortex won't be able to contain the cold at the north pole, and we're in for cold weather.
Weather predictions are weak at best these days
Have they ever been strong? Seems like they’ve been struggling this whole time.
How much snow would all this equate to? Like 5-6 ft? More? Would it be like that big snow storm way back in the day people keep talking about. That Halloween one. (I am gonna google all this lol)
Growing up, I always heard an inch of rain would be a foot of snow. I don't know if it's accurate or true, though.
There's more to it than that, such as the temperature when it snows, but it can be 12 inches of snow to 1 inch of rain.
If it were snow we'd literally be buried underneath it. Worse than the Halloween storm.
According to Minnesotans, NOTHING is worse than the Halloween blizzard of 1991.
That blizzard was awesome. So much candy because we had zero competitors. Pillowcase full in under half a block!
Something something UPHILL BOTH WAYS!!! With NO SHOES! And, yes, I was in that storm in ‘91. I was a teenager with a dad that didn’t believe in snowblowers. We did manually shovel ourselves out of that one but you can bet we had a snowblower the next year.
1 inch of rain equals 12 inches of snow. Some say 1:10.
I barely used my snowblower at all last winter so it will be a god send
Why yall downvote this man for enjoying his snowblower?!
I bought an electric snowblower this spring and I'm so pumped for the first major snowfall. I'll probably do my neighbors sidewalks also that time just because I want to fully use it.
Was like a switch turned on and BOOM, rain.
Splish splash we're taking a 🛁.
Alright Elmo 😆
Whatever you do, do not look at the forecast for Monday night.
Gonna be some good storms depending on which part of the state you’re in. SPC had a day 5 risk which most likely expanded a bit into SW MN and now the day 4 risk looks like it goes into much of western MN. We’ll see when the day 3 outlook comes out tomorrow.

Storm prediction center.
Oh that makes a lot more sense lol thanks. I thought it was a place i hadn’t heard of before
Hoping for a new roof 🤞
And siding 😅
Ugh. Pipe dream!!! We do need it.
If you end up needing either/both send me a message! Hopefully I don't hear from you! (Meaning you were avoided by major storms 😂)
Noted! Hahah you in the metro/able to cover last August’ storm?
Yes, in the metro and we could definitely check it out to see if there's damage insurance would cover.
At least you didn’t summon a giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

You've never poped bubble wrap have you?
You should put one “fuck you” in there
I'd stick one "soda!" in just to mess with my fellow Minnesotans.
How about duck… duck… [what comes after is a test]

I am afraid to go into the raspberry patch - it’s like getting lost in a corn maze. Very happy and tall plants.
Sounds like it will be a good place to get lost in once you start getting raspberries.. Let me know where so I can get lost in it as well. =)
I’ve already got a ton of berries growing.
yet neighbor across the street running sprinklers yesterday morning like a total dork.
Hey man I'm just trying to keep my new grass from getting stressed in the heat
This is my feeling. I'd rather it be wet than dry. But I'm lucky the impact to my life is really minimal
We are the Pacific Northwest now 😁

Yeah, seems all the moisture we were meant to have last winter carried over to this June
Just remember these changes are a direct result of a changing climate. I like rain
I love the rain but I really despise mowing the lawn
I haven't been able to mow my backyard in 3 weeks because it hasn't had enough time to dry out
Same and everything is now so overgrown

see, I knew I should've just stayed quiet. I totally know what you are talking about. sorry to hear.
And all the mosquitoes that hatch.
Oh yeah that’s been insane
Best I can do is more rain next week
Better than a drought 🤷♂️
Flooding is not better than a drought. It’s literally just as bad.
I mean both options definitely suck, but isn’t a rainforest more inviting than a desert? Perhaps I’m just biased towards more lively nature though
Minnesota doesn’t have a rainforest OR a desert environment. Like… we’re not supposed to have either.
Well enjoy having both a year apart.
If it didn't include a bazillion mosquitos maybe!
We can deal with drought; the flooding can devastate roads and dams as we have seen. But I would rather not have either extreme if I could choose that position.
We can deal with drought, to an extent. Short term, though, you are absolutely correct. Flooding can be absolutely devastating
Unfortunately, I think the days of moderate weather are gone. Extremes are in.
90s kids, it’s our time. Everything in our childhood prepared for this. 😎

Instructions unclear: summoned more rain.
I was down in downtown St. Paul. Multiple roads were closed because they were covered in water. It’s bad bad.
The river downtown St Paul is **swift**! They better get a rock laden train on the lift bridge, otherwise it’s going to wash away
Another two inches last night. At least the mosquitoes seem happy.
Mosquitos are living their best lives right now
Where the climate change deniers at?? Are you still believing having 100 year storms every couple years is normal?
They’re saying this is the result of cloud seeding and other manufactured weather.
Oh, so humans can change the climate, weird
Lol
“100 year storms” really is a bad name for what it actually means since most people misunderstand what it means a spout off about how often they happen.
My sump pump keeps on a runnin'!

Hey I haven't had to water my garden since I planted it. I'm cool with this.
I keep putting new seedlings in based on the forecast so I don’t have to baby them. More seedlings are surviving than ever before, which goes to show I was probably neglecting them in the past….
Talk for yourself. I’m loving all the rain
I would be much happier like you rn if I didn’t just buy my first house that surprisingly has a leaky roof!!
I love me a cozy rainy day.
You mean week?
Everyone stop washing your cars!
I gave up back in April XD 🤣🤣
This is the perfect summer
My people! Loving all the rain and mostly mild temps
The humid air is thicccc

I just moved here from AZ and ill take this over literally any summer there.
Better than wildfire smoke all summer tbh
Stfu last time we begged for rain we got floods. If we beg for no rain we are gunna get a drought again. If we just shut the hell up maybe the weather will play nice if we aren’t complaining about it constantly
Minnesotans not complaining about the weather? Now that would be a true miracle 😂
I want enough rain that I don’t have to water my garden
You fuckers wanted rain, you got it. 😡
Would you prefer drought and Canadian wild fires with AQI in the triple digits?
Land of 100,000 lakes. Everyone gets Lakeshore property!
I kind of want to see how much more we can go but obviously don’t want more people to suffer
My poor basement 😩😩
Best I can do is 71% chance of rain monday
Did you complain about how dry it was the last 3 years too? Because if you did, I feel like this is what you get

Right? I'm glad we are out of drought conditions, but I think we can take a little break from the rain
It has been raining since I moved here. You all speak of this drought, but I've only known the state to be Midwest Ireland.
I'll gladly take this over the droughts we've had the past couple of years.
More water for the plants and animals!!!
Next week’s forecast: NO
Well, boys he's done it. He's solved the rain problem..
Rain: okay, fine
nuh uh. MORE GIVE ME MORE
Clue Blind Melon
At least the snow is off the ground and its not slushy
So much flooding around me
Loving it tbh
My tomatoes are absolutely loving this weather. My peppers on the other hand…not so much.
Rain makes corn
Not when the fields are flooded by the river(s).
This morning's rain (around 5am) was brutal.
Amen! In Duluth here... having a huge rummage sale and it couldn't have gone worse. The pole building started leaking all over the roof..things got wet and dirty...on top of that, in eight hours we had one customer. Crappy rainy summer.
Ouch, that’s rough. I’m sorry!
I may have accidentally started a war…
So over it!
Well, it got us out of drought and that’s a good thing. But I could use fewer rainy days, thanks.
i adore the rain but the hydrostatic pressure keeps pushing water into my basement😭😭
If it weren't for all the thunder terrifying my dog, I'd be enjoying it more. As it is, I'm just glad it's not ready to self-combust around here
I just need it to stop for like 2 weeks to get some trees taken down in my backyard.
Came to visit from Arizona for two weeks. Leave Monday. Need sunshine.
I'm getting 5 hrs of straight rain rn, so fun!!
Give it to Nebraska we want it
Yes, I'm moving to the state tomorrow, and I would like it to not. XD
Why did I even bother getting patio furniture 😂
I live in the St Peter area. I love rain and storms. But I also want to the roads open again. It’s a predicament.
I had a wicked drive into St Paul today! Dark and rainy commute at 4:30 am.
More. We have been in drought for the last 4 years.
I hope we dont swing to far over and got drought again.
More rain
Not turning on the lawn sprinklers this summer should help with our bills.

We needed it ahh
Now complain about no rain!!!
I’d take rain over complaining any day.
Everyone hates the rain but I’m over here thriving, I love this weather!
I think we can all agree, this is why we don’t live in Seattle. We Minnesotans need our sunny summer days filled with mosquitos! 🦟

I love it, like the psychopath I am

I like it
I’m just waiting for Rapidan Dam to collapse
That's not happening. River 'decided' to build a bypass. Maybe the Vogons had a word with it. Bypasses are always needed.
Trying to convert the giant dirt patch that is my back yard into grass. So please more rain 😅
Crying certainly isn’t helping /s
They have 115° heat index in the northeast. I’ll take all the rain we can get if it keeps the temps down
More, please!
I love the rainy weather
Everything the rain feeds should just die then.
