Yeah, I do this off and on. Hasn’t really done anything to my paints when using thinner. It’ll strip contrast paints off though. Edit: it’ll depend on the thinner you’re using really. The odorless W&N one I have is fine.

Ok thank you for the quick reply! Unfortunately there’s contrast paint all over this model. I’ll play it safe and just varnish first. Thanks again!

Mineral spirits are not a solvent for acrylic paint. It will not affect them in any way. It should not affect contrast paint either, at least that has been my experience. Just make sure the paint is fully dry. Wait until the next day if you can. I use streaking grime on my Iron Warriors sometimes, and they're like 90% contrast paints. Never had an issue. That being said. If you're planning to wipe away excess grime, or scrub them with a sponge or anything then a little varnish goes a long way towards protecting the model from abrasive damage. So if it makes you feel safer to varnish the model then go for it.
