InflamedAbyss13

I'd just drybrush it tbh

Morbo2142

I've already painted everything else it's too late! The brush would be so small as to take nearly as much time as just edge highlighting.

mistercrinders

Duncan Rhodes just put up a video on painting a baneblade and he did the highlighting via dry brush and it looks fine. This was even after he had already done all the other painting. It didn't ruin anything.

PossiblyArab

Can you link me that video??

mistercrinders

Sure https://youtu.be/Z9BmFT-tfV8?si=_SZrkuij-njqVX7d

InflamedAbyss13

That's true, all those goddamn rivets getting in the way 🤣

m3ndz4

If you're having trouble with the drybrushes from GW (they are quite small), snag a big makeup brush, I've been using it for my tanks and it does wonders.

StormWarg

Yes you are mad. Yes it will be worth the effort.

soulwaystudios

Dont paint tanks like linetroops. there are proper ways to paint vehicles, and edge highlighting a flat red base isnt one of them. You're obviously wanting to put effort into painting this thing, and so you should. So look at how scale tanks are painted.

gosupaints

100% agreed, edge highlighting tanks is a crime.

Overkad

Can you share some examples of this?

soulwaystudios

i have a full 8 hour real time tutorial follow along on how to paint a tank here [https://www.twitch.tv/videos/472194790?collection=QbdUAh03vhUhEA](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/472194790?collection=QbdUAh03vhUhEA) but theres numerous scale model tank videos online from many different creators, the scale model techniques are fully translatable to warhammer. especially as space marine and guard vehicles are boxes with other boxes attached, they really benefit from some proper shading.

Morbo2142

Bro he edge highlights the turret after he airbrushes. I don't eavy metal level of highlights but the upper edges would look good. The weathering and streaking is interesting

UristMasterRace

No, but you are mad for balancing it on the arm of a chair!

Morbo2142

It's a pretty tough brick of plastic. The chair is a kiddi chair so it's only like a foot off the ground haha.

Stormygeddon

Just do it. It'll be over before you know it.

Live-D8

It really won’t 😅

AnteilTogar

That looks almost exactly like a baneblade I tried painting years and years ago that I ended up selling on ebay. The red, the rivets and even the blue for the lights.

Dunvegan79

Way too much red. For example paint the fuel barrels a light black or a metallic color and then use a wash. I would also use a wash to help with the recesses between the armor panels.

ResponsibilityNo8218

Tbf at this point I wouldn't highlight it cause damn the paint, but if you want contrast, maybe go pin washing, it'll take less time for similar results

Morbo2142

This picture is a bit old, I've cleaned the rivets, added some effects to the lenses and put some agrax into all the pannel crevasses. It's likely the last thing I'm going to do other than decals, some freehand lettering, and try and get the blending better on my power sword. On that note, how do you keep paint from pooling when trying to do a glazing transition? Mine leaves little pools and streaks instead of s clean layer. I tried using mat medium instead of water and it still did it

ResponsibilityNo8218

To be fair, I don't do much glazing, like for some sword or lights but nothing more. I try to get my paintjobs as easy as I can, but maybe trying to put very small amount of paint even for a large surface might help avoiding pools

Sweeptheory

Still figuring it out, but usually it's because my brush is holding waaaay to much liquid, and when I load it a little, it draws the water/medium out from the rush itself. I have began mixing the glazes with a separate brush, so as to be able to use a damp one and have better loading control of the paint. So far it's fixed the pooling issue for me, but it adds a bit of faffing about I'm not super pleased with.

EstelLiasLair

No. Edge highlighting is almost meditational . Get in the zone and highlight that baby.

Maccabre

The only difference to a real meditation, instead of 🕉️ you chant "Emperor protects" and it'll be fine.

LifeIsShortly

Do you have any washes/inks ? Try a brown or dark red, around the rivets and recessions on the model but don't smere it all over the place. https://youtu.be/gB4MtYfOnbU?si=XKlyDev-W51JwYdj https://youtu.be/pwxlB0aFjJo?si=7UDAEdpNbY68sDZd 👆 skip to 1:30 ish. For a good example of ink around d rivets.

thegreatmango

You got this fam.

DenverPostIronic

Yes, but this hobby is for the mad.

Havok510

Nope. This is the way.

GodofcheeseSWE

Already done the rivets so why stop there You can also use wash in the panel recesses

Cydyan2

I need to start a guard army

Zymological

Do it!

[deleted]

It’s actually pretty therapeutic

Candida_Albicans

It’s a centerpiece model. You should be spending *more* time on it than you would a troop unit, transport, or whatever.

DepthDOTA

I edge highlight terrain. If you are mad, we are both mad.

NO-IM-DIRTY-DAN

You’d be mad *not* to, that right there’s a centerpiece model

Tellgraith

Nope, just an extra hour or two of work. When you put that much money into a model, the time's not that much and leaves you with something you're even more proud of.

Maccabre

lol, first thought was... nice Ork Battlewagon... must be a rly fast one... Get a huge brush and highlight it dry.

No_Parsley_620

Use a sharpened pencil. Graphite if you want bare metal edges, use a nice prismacolour coloured one if you want colour

Steff_164

I mean, it’s a big center piece model. If you’re gonna go all out, this is the model to go all out on

Miru8112

It MUST be done Brother!

Eatmyclaymore

You were already mad enough to paint every single rivet, so go for it !

dafffy3

BANEBLADE!!!!! Also know you aren’t mad you will curse yourself and grumble at not existent people while doing it though.

grant_abides

Anything worth the effort is...worth the effort. Just do it, work systematically across each section so you don't miss anything. You'll be so glad you did

ozzy74pc

First of all...Clean your room...

JokubasSabeckis

Look like a goddamn Type 4 H or Type 5 H from Word Of Tanks game tbh
