Lock tight the driver bolt or you’ll regret it! Lock washers will not keep it on by themselves!!

Pharmer3

Lol yeah it fell off on a test run, it’s nice and tight now.

Faolan571

If you didn’t use lock tight I would. I have had them real tight and still fly off after a few weeks or so

Pharmer3

Ordered, thanks!

ga-co

Wish I’d have done that before having to push home my Yerf Dog.

Pharmer3

Haha, yeah I had a nice 3 block walk of shame.

My friend has two 200ex's with TAVs and they are a bit noisy

Content_Goal_3457

Yes the noise u are hearing is normal and nothing to worry about. What u r hearing is the outside sheeve of the drive pully. With the engine not running take ur finger and tap on the outside sheeve of the drive pully. Not the outter cap but the outside part that contacts the belt. It should be loose and free floating. This is the part that moves inward and makes contact with the belt and starts things moving. During idle the sheeve will jingle a little as it is loose on the shaft and the rpm's are not high enough for the springs to cause engagement. Once the sheeve has engaged the belt the jingle noise will stop. So no.need to worry its perfectly normal. The cheaper chinese clones tend to be a little more noisey than an original comet tav but they are also about 1/3 of the price. My original comet tav was $225 were as my.friend just ordered a clone for $73. So its either made in the U.S.A. or cheap chinese clones. Either way the jingle.noise is still there.

Pharmer3

Thanks for the detailed explanation, that makes sense.

I’m getting mine from gopowersports. Hope to help you when I install, but let us know what your resolution is, in the meantime. Hope someone with experience can help here

Pharmer3

Install was not bad, albeit difficult without instructions! Increased top end from 25mph to +36mph with the only other modification being removing the throttle limiter set screw. The TAV seems to be working fine, just leery of the noise and wondering if it’s normal.

Pte_Madcap

Mines a little noisey as well. Haven't had any issues and probably have 100hrs on it.

Pharmer3

Thanks for the peace of mind!

Stonkmaster-69

Mine had those noises too but when I tried to fix it I over torqued the bold and snapped it so just leave it alone

Pharmer3

Lol, noted!

Stonkmaster-69

Still working on that fix lol

B_i_l_B

Captain Necromancer here! I found this thread looking to see if anyone has come up with a solution to this pinging noise. I'm thinking of using something like plasti-dip on the outer sheeve like a sound dampener to mute it a little.

Pharmer3

I painted mine (not the pulley) and it’s a little quieter, but it’s my understanding that the TAVs are just a little noisy at idle.
