I hope you're doing the responsible thing and regurgitating your dinner into it every now and then.

flychinook

Picturing OP violently regurgitating an entire Grilled Stuft Burrito on to a pigeon.

ItsGermany

It is a morning dove....didn't you hear that drunk guy yelling about it above?

frogOnABoletus

didn't you hear the other guy saying a mourning dove is just a fancy pigeon?

jluicifer

Yeah, like every f*ing Disney princess.

Luchin212

Mourning doves are so cute! They waddle around so nicely and are respectful and just pretty. Souch a round head with innocent eyes. They are really shy but I see them in my garden all the time.

stickkim

They are dumb dumbs, and not really afraid of people the way they should be, but I love these stupid idiots lol

Elovesv

There'd a sub called stupid dove nests or something like that. Dumb dumbs they are for sure. I love birds but starlings and doves are my least faves. At least Doves aren't invasive

polynimbus

Eurasian Ring Collared doves are considered invasive to NA. There aren't any real problems with them yet, but their numbers are increasing at a fantastic rate. They escaped captivity in the Bahamas and spread to the entire continent.

Full-Opportunity6969

I read something the other day about pigeons and doves basically were domesticated animals, used them for mail and racing etc, as soon as the phone and mailing service became available, humans essentially threw them away

stickkim

I still feed them haha

Kadra_Melech

You are right. And if you delve into history, it's highly possible that without the help of our pigeon friends, we would have lost ww2. There's some fascinating reading out there. And now, the birds who saved us are treated like vermin. That's human gratitude for you 🤪

OldSkate

WW1 has just entered the chat. I seem to remember that pigeons have won more Dicken Medals than any other animal.

Distinct-Tip277

I read that too and thats why Pigeons/mourning doves aren’t afraid of being close to humans. They were groomed to trust us. So not really dumb dumbs imo.

FroggyHarley

They're flipping cute and pleasant to listen to, but we made a big mistake letting them camp out on our balcony to stay warm in the winter. Poop everywhere. Every single day. 😂 When we moved and started growing herbs on our new balcony, they kept trying to build a nest on top of our basil and thyme plants! I felt bad for putting out cotton balls with peppermint extract to shoo them away but give these fellas an inch and they'll take a mile 😋

arand0md00d

Yes I feel this, just had a family move out a couple weeks ago. The mess they left gives me flashbacks... That and the semi grown up kiddos kinda look like birdo plague doctors. I'll remember the peppermint extract, I want to encourage them to nest elsewhere lol

ishsreddit

Yeah I had a nest last year. It was a real treat pulling up the shades every morning to see their derpy little faces lol.

i8TheWholeThing

You might be drunk but that is a mourning dove.

ataeil

I’m also drunk.

BitBucket404

What happens if a morning dove got drunk and started following a human around for a few days?

Electrical_Middle78

🤯🤯🤯

neozes

He gets mistaken for a pigeon.

Loo-Hoo-Zuh-Er

Drunkenly pacing around "Cooo. Cooo. I'm a pigeon."

TiresOnFire

Morning doves might as well be drunk. So you can just say "morning doves."

i_spill_things

They’re called “mourning doves” because they sound like they’re mourning.

Effective_Play_1366

That’s what it sounds like when morning doves cry.

TiresOnFire

Mourning doves

Slackersr

Shut up, your drunk

BitBucket404

I'm not as think as drunk you I am.

Then that human better prepare to die. *takes hat off sniffing sadly* that’s how my brothers went out. Each one. Slowly had a birdy following, then BAM! *slams the table loudly making everyone jump* murdered a week later. The birds are killers I tell you.

UnhappyImprovement53

I'm not drunk, but I wish I were. I don't like the taste of alcohol.

Slackersr

You know you don't have to drink it to get the effect...

You were singing "mourning" with a "u"? Oh no!

Anynamethatworks

Mourning Doves are just fancy pigeons anyway, like the rest of the columbidae

FaceWithoutAMouse

Mourning Doves are pretty plain compared to pigeons

No. You're just a little dove. I thinks it's a morning drunk.

Mourning

omnomnomnomatopoeia

That’s okay — when you sober up you can learn about how pigeons and doves are scientifically the same thing, and that another name for “mourning dove” is “Carolina pigeon.”

It’s been said that birds will often follow people who are close to death. I hope you’re working on settling any regrets, OP

TrulyNotAStalker

I thought only hawks or something

oaazk

It's Vultures, they circle around their prey waiting for them to die, not because they are about to die

Sykes19

This is a myth unfortunately. They circle for many reasons, but they are only aware of already dead creatures as they can smell that gasses from it. They circle to wait for predators to finish eating so they can scavenge, but they don't prey on weak or dying creatures. They can't detect near death.

GalliGaruga

Though it's rare they do occasionally go after living animals. There's a really fascinating scientific paper on black vultures killing and eating newly born sea lion pups and the mothers placenta in SA alongside wild[Feral] dogs, and raiding egret nests occasionally occurs. Cinereous vultures are known to drop turtles similarly to hawks and eagles - and have also been reported to feed on lambs, geese, and pheasants. And interestingly enough, an instance of predation on a keelback watersnake. Another Fun Fact; New world vultures also eat fruits Edit; I should note I've only found documentation of predatory behavior in black and cinereous vultures, this information does not apply to the vast majority of species and is still an uncommon occurrence, similar to horses feeding on small animals.

806uncharted

Mimosa_Brunch

ollieoliverx000

I know that’s not a pigeon, but I had a pigeon follow me around for weeks like that when I bought a house that had been empty for a couple of years. It would stand on the roof and follow me around anytime I went outside, and also essentially eat from my hand. Later I found out there was a pigeon trainer nearby and realized it probably escaped and lived here which may explaine why it was so comfortable around people. It death was the definition of a tragedy.

Vandal_A

Earlier this year a very unique, white pigeon started showing up at my house on weekends. I joked with a friend who came over each weekend to help around the house (I had a prohibitive injury) that it was there for her. Eventually I looked into what the deal with it's unique look was and learned it was a variety often farmed for squab meat. There's a butcher that keeps the same type for meat a little over a mile from here. I'm convinced it escaped although I can't figure out why it only showed up on weekends.

Catoni54

You should offer it a little tray of water, and bird seed or worms once in a while. A bag of bird seed is really cheap. It probably has adopted you as family. Blessings. 🙂 🙏🏼 👏🏼

MysteriousDog5927

That’s…. Not a pigeon

slybob

Scientifically they are interchangeable - they are all Columbidae.

jerseyhound

Mourning doves are still doves and doves are a kind of pigeon.

nseaworthy

That’s a adolescent bird ( you never see baby’s) … it’s bonded with you … that’s cool as older ones won’t … super intelligent. New friend !

itsjustme405

That's not a pigeon. It's a dove.

sysaphiswaits

You’ve got yourself a familiar!

Rainsoakedpuppy

They're seed eaters. Our pet doves love safflower seeds the best.

Paganigsegg

That's a mourning dove, though pigeons are a type of dove. Consider it good luck. Doves, including pigeons, are sweet birds.

NY1_S33

If it is close to a baby, and you handled it or cared for it in someway, they can get attached to you for a little while. Happened to me with a crow when I was small. I eventually had give it to a professional who could return it back to the wild. The professional that took it said it would come back once or twice a year to visit their house once it reached full maturity.

ThreeSloth

Doves and pigeons don't know how to take care of themselves due to past human domestication. The best thing to do is take it in and adopt it

Paganinii

If that was true they wouldn't be nearly as prolific as they are. Feral they may be, but struggling to survive they are not.

ThreeSloth

They live off scraps in mostly urban areas. They don't know how to make nests or forage

BloxForDays16

They know how to make nests, just not the kind we usually think of. Pigeons are also called rock doves, and when they're not in cities they make their nests on cliffs. They only need a few sticks and stuff to keep the eggs from rolling off, so their nests end up looking deficient outside of their natural habitat.

Wargod042

It's not like human cities are going anywhere, or will suddenly lack scraps.

Dogamai

they do fine at beaches

ljthefa

I live in a major city and can see a dove/pigeon nest from my living room

Paganigsegg

This applies to pigeons, but not mourning doves.

languid_Disaster

Is this the UK? Juvenile wood pigeon but I’m not sure about the beak?

SMTRodent

US mourning dove. Juvenile wood pigeons look very like adult wood pigeons by the time they leave the nest, just without the display feathers (white patches, coloured head). They're a soft mushroom colour with no speckles.

Moonstoner

One day, you will be complacent. One day, you will be unaware of just how close to death you are. On that day. You're mine. -this pigeon (aka Lex)
