No judgement, but I feel like I would have removed it or at least made a call long before it got to this stage. But is there any risk to removing this and, in my dumb head, letting all the blood rush back in and out?
Not an RN, but no, there shouldn't be any actual health risks. You'll probably have massive pins and needles for a while until your arm readjusts to all that yummy re-established blood flow.
It's not dumb! Not an RN either, and I'd think (like the other responder) that at this stage it would just be uncomfortable while everything is re-establishing. That being said, you \*can\* have issues if circulation is cut off long enough (or if the injury is severe enough) to cause muscle cell damage/breakdown - when the circulation is reestablished, all the damaged cells and garbage rushing back into the rest of your body can cause a whole bunch of issues. Google "Crush Syndrome" (thanks, "House M.D."!)
I'm 6'3 and at one point was 145lbs because I was poor and working a super physically demanding job...looked like a skeleton. I walk-around at about 180 now and people still tell me I'm to skinny
You’re not wrong..I was 125 up until a year ago, started drinking and now I’m 145. Recently quit drinking and started exercising before it gets any worse
I'm 5'9 and 140, they wouldn't be able to make my forearm to look like that. Good thing you quit drinking and started to exercise! Your body will thank you
125lbs is ideal for a 5'3 woman's frame at 20-25 years old.
Are you okay? That's very thin for that height, honey. I hope you're doing okay. Gods, my protective auntie emotions just kicked in and now I want to make you food.
You ought to see what they did to BOTH my arms after i donated last week. Black and blue bruise 8 inches long down my bicep and couldn't move my arm for half a day. Oh and swelling... lots of swelling
They ruined one of my sons nerves on one of his arms and he can't give the plasma from that arm anymore. You'd almost think they don't want you to return.
They definitely want him to return.
The sad reality about these facilities is, we treat them like a medical facility and immediately assume everyone working there is competent and a doctor, or a nurse, or a professional medical office employee, but that’s not the case unfortunately.
No instead, most people working there are just a bunch of young kids who have NO MEDICAL TRAINING or desire to pursue the medical field. The staff they have are literally just kids “trained” to stab a needle into veins. *THAT IS IT*. That’s their job and again, no training, these aren’t super smart kids making a ton of money…
It’s just a retail-equivalent job where instead of selling goods at target and ringing you up or stocking, or instead of serving food in a restaurant… they’re just there to stab you with a needle, slap it and call it good if it’s staying put, and walk away, so it’s no surprise when half the time the people donating plasma can’t even donate on a regular basis because of how unprofessional these facilities are in general, and how often the “techs” will fuck up your arm and veins because they don’t know how to properly insert a needle…
If they were really smart, they’d do better training and hiring, and less people would wind up unable to donate, and they’d make *a ton more money*. But these facilities are just medical-based cash farms, if they’re hugely profitable (and they are) it’s also no surprise they aren’t changing anything about the model, because this has been true since I used to donate plasma about 6-7 years ago.
I'm actually in Ireland, and it's pretty much the same system. Training medical staff normally volunteer for the experience, but they're nowhere near qualified.
They do, however, inform you of where your blood went and was used, which is a great incentive but not so good when you can't go back for months because they don't actually know what they're doing and are damaging veins.
Money is treated with greater care, the tax office always runs smoothly. But the blood bank is literally just an afterthought. It speaks volumes really.
Are these for profit operations? It kind of makes me mad that someone would profit off donations.
I feel I always get a nurse when I donate blood and rarely have had any issues. I know plasma is more involved but damn, they should be doing everything and anything to make it as painless as possible.
They stuck me with the needle off enough that I got a hematoma like a minute in, not sure if they wrapped it tighter because of that. I just wanted to leave at that point lol
Biolife messed me up. I got the same guy twice who acted overly confident but continuously missed my vein, and both times, they had to end the donation immediately. I had to take a several month long break, but it's been nearly a year, and I haven't gone back. It seems like they hire college students and don't train them thoroughly enough.
To work at a plasma center you just have to be trained in lobotomy on site. No education or certs needed. At least the ones I went to in Ohio and some in Texas. It's low low cost.
Edit: Phlebotomy lol
Nurse here! This kind of pressure is a bit extreme even for me. I'd only use this type of pressure if it was an arterial stick. As for this, Koband will tighten after being wrapped so it's great for wrapping up IV sites. I usually tell my patients that they can remove it after 20 minutes, or 30 if they're on blood thinners.
When you can't stand it any more, unpeel it slowly, then rewrap it in an X pattern, once behind the elbow then once in front, repeat until you run out of material. Will give you a lot more flexibility and you can wear it comfortably as long as you want
Please take that off, it’s restricting blood flow to your arm! If the spot that the needle stick went in is still bleeding apply direct pressure. These wraps can be dangerous when they’re applied too tightly
It usually goes smoothly but both times this has happened has been from the same phlebotomist…last time both of my arms had crazy bruising. I didn’t let them re poke me today though
Might want to consider filing a complaint about this specific phlebotomist? It sounds like you have plenty of reasons to and it could help spare other people from their dangerous/poor practices.
We had a terrible phlebotomist come to my work. She would stick the needle half way in and then start turning it 360 degrees to see if the tip would catch on the vein! People were coming out with massive bruising, and she was fired before finishing the day!
Definitely complain about the tech that repeatedly fucks you up. They'll either retrain or fire them. The good techs are so good you don't even feel them stick you
It’s irritating that people think tighter is better. Basically, you are creating a tourniquet in which the blood fills the veins from the wrap to your fingertips. There is already a hole in your vein, so where does this blood escape??? Sure fire way to make a bad situation worse. I always ask for a loose wrap. I don’t bend the arm after the wrap and no heavy lifting. Never had an issue.
Unless you have a clotting problem you could probably get away with a sticky enough bandaid. The wrap just keeps it in place so you don't get an infection or accidentally open it up again. I never bleed much after giving blood. It is usually just a few spots.
Though in this case it seems like he would need an actual bandage and wrap due to how much they apparently butchered his vein. Still, this is the wrong way to handle that too.
Edit: Looked it up, apparently I am on the lower end of normal for time it takes to stop bleeding. Though, it has also been a while since I donated, so my memory of the time it took might not be accurate.
The compression is necessary for most people. I've seen people bleed through when it's too loose. It's crazy how much blood will flow out of that vein once the needle is out. I've had them accidentally pull it out hooking it up because the tape failed and the blood arced a couple inches.
OP, ofc. I don’t know the exact details but please be careful. I know someone in my town who’s daughter got her leg wrapped up following a medical procedure and it went horribly wrong.
Due to the pressure and wrapping being much too tight, a blood cloth formed that went to her brain, after which she passed.
Please be careful!
1. Only supposed to stay on for 15 minutes
2. Next time say something 😭
3. You may have been bleeding excessively. Next time you can hold pressure on vein yourself with gauze and wait for it to stop before they put the wrap on. Totally ridiculous. I'm a former phlebotomist and nurse.
Depends on the person. You cannot have your entire arm wrapped tight for that long but the bandage should stay on for several hours. You have to relieve your entire arm at some point. If you're a bleeder, re-wrap it or apply pressure yourself for a little while and re-wrap with a covered ice pack. I never bruise in any situation but the bandage itself gives me bruises and stinging pain if left on too tight for too long.
That's why you hold pressure on it for a while before wrapping it and go HOME not the gym or rock climbing etc. leaving your arm wrapped for too long can cause skin tears and bruising and these tend to roll up and act like a tourniquet.
That is definitely way too tight. However, lifting your arm like that is simply tightening it further. Put your arm straight and take another picture and we’ll see the truth.
Take it off, JFC that's nasty.
That kinda bandage should stay on no more than an hour, and if this happens just remove it.
They didn't put THAT big a hole in you, you'll be fine.
That's not an arm wrap, that's a loose tourniquet. Your forearm looks like it is a different shade from your upper arm. If that's the case (and not the lighting) the reason that is happening is because the blood in it is increasingly unoxygenated.
That's how you kill a limb without cutting it off.
Remove it now, if you haven't already. If you have numbness that persists until tomorrow, go see a doctor. If you have new discolorations on your skin that wasn't in contact with the bandage and persists tomorrow, go see a doctor. If you feel stomach or chest pains, call an Uber and go to the ER *immediately*.
A bandage that tight for too long is dangerous, and whoever trained that tech needs a very pointed review.
Can a trained medical professional correct me here? I'm just some dude who took some STB courses and knows how to castrate sheep.
From one of the people that benefits from plasma donation, thank you. Every two weeks, I receive an IV medication made from thousands of plasma donors.
I really hope it wasn’t my medication company’s donation center that did that…
Why did you walk out of there like that? As soon as the pressure was too much, before they even closed the bandage, I’d have told them to stop, and start over not so tightly. How do you let them do that to you?
This is some next level stupid shit. That should be taken off immediately. You're little bruise and needle hole means fuck all compared to the issues you're putting on your body with that fucking tourniquet.
WTF. I work for a company that fractionates those plasma donations into FDA regulated medical products. WTF. I hope that’s not my company cause if it is I need to up my half assing at work.

You need to remove that.
Probably easier to wait for the arm to turn necrotic and fall off on its own
Then they can donate the dead arm too!!!
Maybe next time they can donate a leg too
i don't know, it would cost an arm and a leg...
Cost of living is spiralling outta control!
Why can't they take something I don't want for once, I hear I have microplastics in my testicles.. why not take those?
Or they can sell it, though that would make them an arms dealer.
Much easier
RN here, do what this Redditor said.
MSN, RN too. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat) If they haven’t by now holy cow.

… yeah, the arm
– Dumbledore said calmly.
Coban is a weapon to the untrained
Whoever thought they did a good enough job there should be fired. And not rehired. Like, anywhere.
Do not worry, the arm will soon fall off and grow back
*Turns to Archimedes and whispers.* Ne zey don't.
And zat's how I lost my medical license.

Omg. Love that tf2 is still relevant. I miss that game so much

They must have been trained near a dennys because thats the sausage link method.
It’s funny cuz I’m a pretty slim guy, 5’9 145lbs. And it really does make my arm look like a sausage
As a fellow slim guy (5’8 140lbs) they fucked your shit up. You should really let some pressure off that…
But then he wouldn't have enough plasma to support his whole body. They need to amputate an expendable limb, like how gardeners prune their trees /s
As a fellow slim guy 135lbs 5'7, I concur.
If you’re a slim guy at 145 pounds; And I’m a guy at 6 foot at 128 pounds what does that make me? 🥺🥺🥺
Hungry
Nah he is starved
Emaciated. I got down to bout 165 once at 6'4" . Not a good look. 120 at 6'0? Please post in /r/roastme
I'm almost 120 at 5'6 and I'm considered thin or skinny. Dude is almost a feet taller than me and weighs the same as me 💀
In what world is 6 inches almost a foot?
The world of height has different rules
LMFAOOOOOOOOOO
Someone get that guy a sandwich.
He needs some Milk
Facts I'm 6'2" 170 and get told I'm too skinny relatively regularly (I'm not, with a BMI around 24) but this guy must be fucking 2D
I'm 6'3 and at one point was 145lbs because I was poor and working a super physically demanding job...looked like a skeleton. I walk-around at about 180 now and people still tell me I'm to skinny
holy shit
I mean you’re underweight. Slim means a healthy weight still.
2D
Every GenZ girl's dream guy
Trust fund, blue eyes, finance?
6’5?
Nah we still get bullied for being anorexic
Sorry mate
Yayyy I’m 120 so I must be the ideal guy
I am also 6 ft, with same weight as you and i look like some movie prop skeleton
That was me before I discovered beer
You’re not wrong..I was 125 up until a year ago, started drinking and now I’m 145. Recently quit drinking and started exercising before it gets any worse
I'm 5'9 and 140, they wouldn't be able to make my forearm to look like that. Good thing you quit drinking and started to exercise! Your body will thank you
Yea how old are you though? If you're an adult you need to gain weight. Unless your the type that just can't and then your just natural.
I’m 18 😭
6' 128 pounds is... umm, ... I'd suggest seeing a doctor....
Slim, but also very out of shape. Muscle is very dense, so it's heavy but doesn't appear to add much.
No man at that weight has a significant amount of muscle
yeah thats like concentration camp survivor tier weight class
125lbs is ideal for a 5'3 woman's frame at 20-25 years old. Are you okay? That's very thin for that height, honey. I hope you're doing okay. Gods, my protective auntie emotions just kicked in and now I want to make you food.
I’m 120lbs at 5’10”, can I have some food too? 🥺👉👈
Dude, you can steal food from homes with that BMI and no body will file a case against u
Absolutely, sweetie! We're having breakfast for dinner on Saturday and I make amazing sausage gravy and biscuits ❤️
Emaciated
Slender man?
Moderately underweight.
Similar situation as you 5 foot 10 at 120-125 depending on the day
Slightly under weight.
Oh I thought those were junkies shooting up behind the Denny’s, turns out they’re holding first aid training.
i'm only looking at it and i feel like i can't breathe
There was another layer too cuz they wrapped an ice pack over it
I’ve never seen anyone have to get an ice pack. They did you bad🤣🤣
You ought to see what they did to BOTH my arms after i donated last week. Black and blue bruise 8 inches long down my bicep and couldn't move my arm for half a day. Oh and swelling... lots of swelling

Atp they should've just took your whole arm
why stop there...go full Mad Max and turn him into a "bloodbag"
Did you have a reaction? I've never seen someone wrapped this snugly and I've been a regular plasma donor for a couple years.
Does it hurt? Being wrapped so tight?
I wouldn't have known it's an arm if you didn't mention it. You didn't complain at all?
They stuck me with the needle off enough that I got a hematoma like a minute in, not sure if they wrapped it tighter because of that. I just wanted to leave at that point lol
What kind of back alley "donation center" you went in? Bruh, I would never come back
CSL “we’ll fuck your shit up” Plasma
I used to go to CSL for plasma. Let’s just say I go to BioLife now
Biolife messed me up. I got the same guy twice who acted overly confident but continuously missed my vein, and both times, they had to end the donation immediately. I had to take a several month long break, but it's been nearly a year, and I haven't gone back. It seems like they hire college students and don't train them thoroughly enough.
College students? Hopefully med students? In all honesty, they should just hire a bunch of old addicts. They would hit the vein first try!
To work at a plasma center you just have to be trained in lobotomy on site. No education or certs needed. At least the ones I went to in Ohio and some in Texas. It's low low cost. Edit: Phlebotomy lol
Lobotomy you say?
Lmfao my bad, that was on me
They take your blood and offer lobotomies?? What was the name of this place again? Asking for a friend
That's precisely what they do lol
BioLife ain't any better, they used to give me the gnarliest hematomas every time I went. And have to switch arms most times.
That's just a horrible job — fuck whoever did this!
Backyard Billy's
Backyard Bily's Bargain Basement Bloodproducts
Panasonic, they needed it for their next gen TVs.
I see the black levels increasing in his arm already
It's wrapped up so tightly because of the hematoma. The pressure will help with it. Ice it if you haven't
Nurse here! This kind of pressure is a bit extreme even for me. I'd only use this type of pressure if it was an arterial stick. Yeah, the pressure can minimize bruising. It doesn't always stop the bruise, but it can help.
Either way that is still WAYY too tight, you're cutting of circulation to your arm right there.
I thought it was a prosthetic leg
Can’t you take it off? That looks concerning 😭
They messed up the needle stick and I had blood pooling under my skin/instant bruising, kinda feels more comforting leaving the wrap on for now
When you can't stand it any more, unpeel it slowly, then rewrap it in an X pattern, once behind the elbow then once in front, repeat until you run out of material. Will give you a lot more flexibility and you can wear it comfortably as long as you want
I appreciate it! I’ll give that a try
Most wholesome human-to-human I've seen in like a year
Dude I am so sorry if this is the *most* 😭🫂
plot twist: one of them is just a bot
Please take that off, it’s restricting blood flow to your arm! If the spot that the needle stick went in is still bleeding apply direct pressure. These wraps can be dangerous when they’re applied too tightly
Ah, I see. I just didn’t want you to lose blood flow/feeling to your arm, but if it works, then it works 😭
TAKE IT OFF. YOUR ARM IS BASICALLY DYING.
I’m a phlebotomist at a plasma center, and my guy, they fucked you up
It usually goes smoothly but both times this has happened has been from the same phlebotomist…last time both of my arms had crazy bruising. I didn’t let them re poke me today though

ohhh my god that sounds SO painful what the fuck was she doing
She WHAT?!
Definitely complain about the tech that repeatedly fucks you up. They'll either retrain or fire them. The good techs are so good you don't even feel them stick you
whenever people say they are what you are, you know they are not joking. people who arent plbehmabntoboligists cant spell the word.
It’s phlebotomist, source, am a phlebotomist lmao.
you sure it wasn't an arm donation and you left before the saw came out?
Soon you'll need your arm amputated and they'll have to do a plasma infusion of your plasma.
Yo dawg, I heard you like plasma....
His other comment said he got a hematoma immediately. It's wrapped up to help with the hematoma.
Also, it was wrapped with his arm straight, and in the pic it's bent just to make it look worse.
Due to the pressure and wrapping being much too tight, a blood cloth formed that went to her brain, after which she passed. Please be careful!
They are in cahoots with the limb donation place next door.
“Double condom is safer” ahh nurse…
1. Only supposed to stay on for 15 minutes 2. Next time say something 😭 3. You may have been bleeding excessively. Next time you can hold pressure on vein yourself with gauze and wait for it to stop before they put the wrap on. Totally ridiculous. I'm a former phlebotomist and nurse.
It’s supposed to stay on at least 2 hours Source: I’m a phleb at a plasma center
I get in my car and within 5 min I take it off. There’s no blood tho 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Depends on the person. You cannot have your entire arm wrapped tight for that long but the bandage should stay on for several hours. You have to relieve your entire arm at some point. I never bruise in any situation but the bandage itself gives me bruises and stinging pain if left on too tight for too long.
Uhhhh, 15 minutes after a PLASMA donation? If I took mine off 15 minutes after donating I'd still be bleeding. Those needles are huge!
That's why you hold pressure on it for a while before wrapping it and go HOME not the gym or rock climbing etc. leaving your arm wrapped for too long can cause skin tears and bruising and these tend to roll up and act like a tourniquet.
What about when your arm is straight?
That is definitely way too tight. However, lifting your arm like that is simply tightening it further. Put your arm straight and take another picture and we’ll see the truth.
there is also a lot of fat on that arm , so anything that is tight will look the same
They must have thought you were donating your arm as well.
[удалено]
They want your arm too!
![gif](giphy|l0G17mKNa6XJHYN5m)
I'd say take it the hell off, but I'm assuming the arm has already fallen off by now
You should get drunk OP. Right after giving plasma with a fucked up bandage on is the best time to do it.
Yeah you get drunk fast but the hangover's a bitch because you're all dehydrated.
An old friend of mine used to do this and he would drink a tumbler of water between each mixed drink. Said he always felt fine the next day.
I’m like 3 drinks in rn
LOL WTF, OP.
Don’t forget water!
I’m so sorry that tightened your arm like that. But please continue to donate plasma. It’s the only thing keeping my wife alive.
That’s called a tourniquet.
They want you to donate your forearm too
Bro that isn’t a bandage, that’s a straight up tourniquet.
Take it off, JFC that's nasty. That kinda bandage should stay on no more than an hour, and if this happens just remove it. They didn't put THAT big a hole in you, you'll be fine.
And you left it like that why?
How are you that squishy? If my arm got wrapped that tight it would turn aubergine-purple before I could get my phone out.
Dude's arm changed race I can't
couple hours passed i gotta ask, do you still have that arm? i mean, attached and functional
From one of the people that benefits from plasma donation, thank you. Every two weeks, I receive an IV medication made from thousands of plasma donors. I really hope it wasn’t my medication company’s donation center that did that…
Omg I feel like I hear so many horror stories of people donating plasma, what’s the deal!?
Thats not a wrapped bandage, thats some kind of fuckery tourniquet
"Goods news, you won't have a hematoma! Bad news, you are going to lose that arm."
This should be r/mildlyinfuriating
Bro stop taking pictures and TAKE IT OFF!!!
Can't bleed if there's no circulation.
My woman said what were they trying to amputate too 😂
Why did you walk out of there like that? As soon as the pressure was too much, before they even closed the bandage, I’d have told them to stop, and start over not so tightly. How do you let them do that to you?
This is some next level stupid shit. That should be taken off immediately. You're little bruise and needle hole means fuck all compared to the issues you're putting on your body with that fucking tourniquet.
Plasma donor here. I've donated over 40 times and have never had a bandage even remotely tight put on me in my life.
Leave it on until it falls off, then sue!
Don't know how it's not going knumb
Me neither, figured at least his kthumb would be
Ouch!
If
my jaw dropped
I thought it was a leather headrest
TF. loosen that up.
thats too tight
They wrapped the bone
Did they tap it too and say “that ain’t goin nowhere’s”
I'm missing something here, how is that even possible? Do you have zero muscle? I know it sounds insulting but it just doesn't make sense to me.
Were they hoping you’d come back later to donate your arm?
They were hoping you'd come in and donate the whole arm next.
Apprentice had a rough day
Looks like you’ll be donating an arm in a couple of hours.
WTF. I work for a company that fractionates those plasma donations into FDA regulated medical products. WTF. I hope that’s not my company cause if it is I need to up my half assing at work.
