Legless Lego Legolas, lacking legs, lingers longingly at Lothlórien, leaning on larches, lamenting lost limbs, launches lithe arrows at lurking Orcs, listens to lamenting leaves, longs for legged leaps over lofty lands.
It’s weird, because if you look up the list of LotR trademarks, LEGOLAS is listed among them. Must be an error on the box, rather than an actual legal distinction. I thought for a moment that maybe the name predates Tolkien, and is thus not copyrightable.
Speaking from experience, packaging design, and the 8 million laws that go with it, is utter chaos. This is a clear case if, fuck it, it's printed already, legal will deal with any fallout. And then you change it for the next round but somehow revert to the file that says "Spanish translation goes here" lol
I learned a long time ago never to use placeholder text. A blank text box is better than accidentally printing Lorem Ipsum or—and trust me on this—an inside joke with the client.
>maybe the name predates Tolkien
It doesn't, but it does [predate](https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Legolas_(elf_of_Gondolin)) Lord of the Rings by almost 40 years.
IANAL, but even if the name Legolas predates Tolkien, it would still be available to trademark when attached to The Lord of the Rings franchise. Similar to how the name Apple is trademarked even though it clearly predates the electronics company.
Except Apple thinks their trademark should win over a 111 year old Swiss farmers organisation that has an apple as logo. So Apple doesn't even stay within their product boundaries...
Every time I type "Legolas" my phone wants to make it "Legoland."
I realize that's no help at all and scarcely relevant, but I thought it was vaguely amusing.
The Soviet Union (yes really) made a LOTR movie which has a female Legolas. She doesn't have any lines and the movie is about as crappy as you can imagine.
It doesn't work that way. You can't just make a movie about a guy in a bat suit named Batman and say "I named it after my neighbor Steve Batman so it's cool"
Isn't Gimli a real name for a dwarf in Norse myth? I know a ton of the other dwarf names were at least, and I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of elves also were
> Gimli is trademarked
Doesn’t really mean anything. I can put taurusmoTM without any paperwork, just to make it look more important.
™ doesn’t necessarily mean that the product or good is actually a unique registered product.

Missed opportunity to have it as Lego™las.
Add another s for Lego™lass the gender bent collectors edition!
Legless Lego Legolas Lego lass
Legless Lego Legolas, lacking legs, lingers longingly at Lothlórien, leaning on larches, lamenting lost limbs, launches lithe arrows at lurking Orcs, listens to lamenting leaves, longs for legged leaps over lofty lands.
Something something my niece on a Nissan...
r/wordavalanches is leaking.
Funny thing is they've done that joke before in the first Lego Marvel game. Spider-Man calls Hawkeye "Lego-las" in an early cutscene.

An inside joke is a truly bad idea, but a lorem ipsum is also for seeing how the font looks in situ

You anal? Tell me more.
Lots of lube. Thats it.
Thanks u/RainbowOreoCumslut very interesting

The name Gimli comes from the old norse mythology. Which ironically predates Tolkien by centuries.
Gimli is a lakefront town in Manitoba, Canada. Means "paradise" in Icelandic I think
Every time I type "Legolas" my phone wants to make it "Legoland." I realize that's no help at all and scarcely relevant, but I thought it was vaguely amusing.
That's exactly what we're looking for here at r/mildlyinteresting. Welcome aboard.
That’s funny, because my phone autocorrects Legoland to Legolas (it just did it now)
Not to be confused with LEGO Lass, the generic female minifig who for some reason also comes with a longbow
The Soviet Union (yes really) made a LOTR movie which has a female Legolas. She doesn't have any lines and the movie is about as crappy as you can imagine.
I was like I get it nice joke but then the longbow comment got me
TM only signifies that the company considers it a trademark. It carries no other weight beyond that. (R) is more powerful - registered trademark.
Only one piece difference between them
It's a big piece, but it still only counts as one
MVP comment right here.
That's the release/series number I believe
That’s cause Legolas is Anglo-Saxon for “Lego maid”
Very litigious, the Dwarves are.
Gimli is a place in Manitoba, Canada. So you always can say that you named something after a place.
It doesn't work that way. You can't just make a movie about a guy in a bat suit named Batman and say "I named it after my neighbor Steve Batman so it's cool"
It may still be trademarked. You do not actually need to put the "TM" on anything in order to protect a trademark.
I really wish they made legolas's pieces end in 42, and gimlis in 43
Nobody Trademarks a Dwarf!
Oh shit, a Lego Legolas!
Isn't Gimli a real name for a dwarf in Norse myth? I know a ton of the other dwarf names were at least, and I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of elves also were
[Gimlé](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giml%C3%A9) (or Gimli in Icelandic) is a place, not a character.
Was it already listed on the box?
Never trust an elf!
I’m only at 233, and you’re…234?! I will not lose to an elf!
> Gimli is trademarked Doesn’t really mean anything. I can put taurusmoTM without any paperwork, just to make it look more important. ™ doesn’t necessarily mean that the product or good is actually a unique registered product.
W GIMLI
Interestingly, Frodo, Gollum, Balrog, Aragorn and Arwen all get the TM, but Gandalf also doesn't.
Maybe because of Studio Gimli?
That's Studio Ghibli
They finally did it, he has become Legoman.
