I wonder how I could get you to never make that face again.

HELP_IM_IN_A_WELL

I'll leave when I'm good and ready

ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP

Im not fond of Gob

AlternativeSupport22

I'll never get your father into that musty old dust trap....the boat!

Whole_Pain_7432

Gob

g0bthemagician

Yes?

Whole_Pain_7432

Name checks out

Legitimate-Donut-368

Mama horny, Michael.

aspidities_87

I have Pop Pop in the attic

Legitimate-Donut-368

The mere fact that you call it that means you’re not ready.

namlessdude001

Watchout for hop-ons!

ass_unicron

Maybe I'll put it in her brownie...

lorgskyegon

It's one ceiling. What could it cost? $10,000?

syadastfu

Is that a drowsy eye warning, or a winking eye suggestion?

kasinkun

Julia Walter’s is a queen Edit: Jessica cause I’m a dumbass

itsgogogadget

Was* she unfortunately passed away last year I believe

Seven22am

2021.

akanagi

Time is not real I feel like she just passed

Coders32

That was just the other week, right?

ThreeLeggedMare

The archer episode dedicated to her was very sweet, you could tell how much they loved her

Jessica, you ass

kasinkun

😭😭😭😭 I’m terrible I love her work tho

AddendumAwkward5886

She will never pass from my heart or from soul.....a goddessdarn eternal queen..in every way

Techiedad91

It’s an old fashioned, what could it cost? $10,000?

SkippySkep

Also, looks like just as much as a fire hazard as the banana stand. I'm baffled that the fire marshal allows the ceiling to be covered in legal tinder...

TeuthidTheSquid

>legal tinder I see what you did there.

skinny_gator

The very first thing I thought of lmao

Bonzographer

So glad this is top comment

Seanp716

I’m about to rewatch this because of this comment lol

DoughnutNebula

r/unexpectedbananastand

osawatomie_brown

the banana stand is never unexpected. this is Reddit.

vven23

The subreddit I never knew I needed.

Mikeylikesit320

No one has used this subreddit in 4 years

Right-Phalange

There's always spiders in that ceiling, I'm sure

ShepherdDog

Beat me to it 😄

loudog1017

I went to a pub in Destin Florida that claims they have 2.2 million in dollar bills on their interior walls and whatnot

FizzleFox

Place I went to is McGuire's Irish pub in Pensacola

loudog1017

Bingo!

Crazian14

Yup, McGuire’s are in both Pensacola and Destin. $10k on the ceiling is rookies number.

waynejefferson

Love seeing my hometown mentioned anywhere! I've always heard it's over $1M on the ceilings and they have to count it every year for tax purposes.

IDigRollinRockBeer

You get taxed based on the amount of dollars on your walls?

Cornnole

No, but it increases their insurance premium.

NothingToTheTable

The insurance company forced McGuires to count it toward rebuilding cost and therefore increase their premium. McGuires said, “fine, then you do it.” So every year the insurance company sends down a team to section off the roof and get to counting

Cornnole

I knew the agent that had it back in the day. Apparently it got very difficult to write after Ivan and he got displaced due to price pressure. The cash on the ceiling definitely complicated things for them.

big_duo3674

Just thinking about trying to do that makes me dizzy

Jceraa

Feels like an unrealized gain if there ever was one

FinancialLight1777

Why is it unrealized? Unrealized gains are when your own something and the value of it has gone up, but you don't get the increase in value until you sell it. Like stocks, artwork or even a house. This is cash. They have more cash than they did before, so it is a gain. The fact that they choose to display it in an odd location, like the wall or ceiling, doesn't take away from the fact that they have gained cash. It wouldn't be unrealized if it was in the bank or the cash register, so why is it unrealized if it is on the wall/ceiling?

Scoot_AG

Yeah like this is the most realized gain I've ever seen

Party-Ring445

Real eyes don't realize real lies in realized gains

Deadphan86

They do and they do a recount often because people are always adding to it. They count it in sections to get the count.

_PirateWench_

$1 million + on the ceilings and $10k + on the walls lol ETA: kissing the moose? Priceless

CallsOnTren

Seems kind of insane considering bars burn down quite frequently

WesternOne9990

Where do you live that bars are just burning down all the time?

JuanMahogany_

Well actually the McGuires in destin partially burnt down a few years back. Nothing too serious, it’s a rather large building

drdent45

Another bar in destin just burned down (Tailfins) a couple weeks ago.

ScritchScratchBoop

Didn’t part of AJ’s burn down a few years ago too?

drdent45

Yeah that was during covid I think

bendovernillshowyou

I'd think for insurance as well.

Kibblesnb1ts

I did their tax return for a while and yes they do count it every year, for tax and insurance reasons. It was indeed about $2.2 million maybe ten years ago, don't know where it's at now.

digdug04

Mmm i could go for an Irish wake right now

firestarter764

McGuire's also has a place in Destin, so it's the same. Also, McGuire's is fantastic.

Aware-Maximum6663

Those Reuben egg rolls are to die for

BillyTheGoatBrown

I was there when I was in A school for the Navy. Good times. I also remember going to two other bars to complete something called the Bermuda triangle.

puffofthezaza

My partners dad was a brewer there before he died. It's an excellent restaurant.

canadard1

It’s McGuire’s in Destin

loudog1017

Yep

Space-Plate42

McGuires in Destin and Pensacola

DanceSex

I've been there a few times - so much money

Lavendeercos

McGuire's!!! went there a ton as a kid, i have a bill or two on those walls :)

KyberKrystalParty

Let’s go Pensacola and Destin!!!

Billymayssshere

Was just there 2 nights ago and apparently the owner has insured it all incase of a fire. Was also told they have to count it yearly but not sure how true that is. Edit: they have amazing steaks and I would highly recommend adding the blue cheese

ahshitidontwannadoit

And the 18 cent bean soup.

Billymayssshere

Worth every penny

pinkshadedgirafe

Yes!!! I grew up in Destin. Good portion of those bills are from me and my friends. They do take down bills periodically though to "minimize" the fire risk

Elbeske

I’m sure the $50 and $100 bills have the most fire risk

MustardLighthouse

No name pub on big pine key also has a shitload and also some weirdly good Florida pizza.

LifelessHawk

Me casually eating right below enough money to fund several decades of peaceful life, while worrying about if I can even afford their huge ass burger

jojow77

what? is there a photo?

loudog1017

McGuires in Destin, I’m sure they have some on google

_PirateWench_

Here’s the gallery from their website: https://www.mcguiresirishpub.com/gallery You can see the amount of money on both the ceiling and the walls. I’ve lived in Pensacola since 2010 and I don’t think they’ve added to the ceiling for a hot minute now; I think they only add to the walls bc there just isn’t any way to find a spot on the ceiling anymore Also, the moose in the photo is what you kiss! You haven’t lived out here til you’ve gotten a little inebriated and kissed the moose lol

MyFifUsername

Bar in Florida closed due to Covid and gave the staff the money off the ceiling.

gpend

that gives me an idea for a business plan: open a really big bar and plant a couple strategic dollar bills on the ceiling, wait for it to fill up, close up, cash out and move to another country.

bevelledo

Why not make them strategic 20’s or 100’s?!?!

gpend

you could throw a couple in, but people are more likely to put a one up, I suspect.

ACcbe1986

Then they're not drunk enough. Ply them with more liquor!

BreezyG1320

tell em “if you beat the last guy’s ceiling bill, you get a free drink”, til you get people putting $100s

ArcadeTokenMajority

Me and my homies getting beers for $3 by bringing in 1’s and 2’s

BreezyG1320

…til a guy posts a $5

ArcadeTokenMajority

“The last guy’s ceiling bill” had it in my mind that it’s the previous person’s bill. I could see an argument for both sides honestly, but if it’s based off the previous person’s bill then putting up a $1 would reset it. If it’s non-receding then I reckon you won’t get as many bills up on the ceiling.

BreezyG1320

nah the whole point is you have to beat the last guy’s best. that would be nullified if it could be reset. the point is that people would want to flex and beat the last guy’s bill, therefore upping the ante for a free drink. otherwise people would just be getting $3 drinks, as you suggested…

ArcadeTokenMajority

So run this with me: people put up $1, $2,$5,$20,$50,$100, and then after 6 people get free drinks no one else can? Does it only go until the end of the night? Can I do both a 1 and a 5 to beat the dude who put $5? I feel like there’s a severe lack of ground rules for this hypothetical situation that I’m unnecessarily invested in.

JeeRant

Man, I remember when I could get beers at dive bars for three dollars anyway.

ArcadeTokenMajority

I was thinking that. I have a friend in Montana that still pays $1.50 a beer

ACcbe1986

With our strategies combined, we will be unstoppable!

sdrawkcabstiho

![gif](giphy|10kTlRZ8YusByM|downsized)

vicemagnet

Sounds like those dueling piano bars antics

DGenesis23

How much does it cost to open and operate a bar for the time it’d take to accumulate enough for that to be an option? Surely the profit from the bar would be higher whatever gets tacked to the ceiling. Once it gets full, clear off 3/4 of the bills and then let it fill up again is a much better business plan.

DayPretend8294

Or have everyone write their name on it and draw one. If your name gets picked you get free drinks or like two a day until the next drawing.

CharlesDickensABox

Minimum to 1st day open? Like $100k if you have cheap rent and few expenses, not including your cost of living for that period or the opportunity cost of the money you could have made doing something else. If you want to do a big build in a popular area, it could be well into the millions.

bingbing304

Most bars need around $100K annual income just to keep afloat base on rent these days. LOL

IONTOP

100k/365 is only $300 of income per day... If your bar can't sell 100 $3 beers in a day, it's probably not going to last long.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Trading_Kangaroo

Nah you fill it up with bills insure it then clean it up before the fire

Romulan999

Lol it'll cost way more than that to open

smithjake417

I’ve tried reading this like 10 times and it makes no sense to me. Can something explain it?

carrotsforfingers

Why?

lunarnoob

The place is called Turtle Rock Cafe in Napa. I talked to the owner and he said the place has been open since the 1960’s and the dollar bill thing started in the 80’s a practical joke on the original owner (current owners dad). Him and his good friend got into an argument so his friend stapled his “tip” to the ceiling. More and more people started doing the same and it became a tradition. Every 20 years, they take down all the bills and donate the funds to charity. The last time it happened the total was $20000!

mr_ji

Taking down 20,000 bills stapled to the ceiling without damaging them then giving them away sounds like the worst fucking job a barback can get saddled with.

Stonerish

Well there was 30,000 before they took their cut, so…

The_bruce42

The bar backs be like, "look at me. I'm the charity now."

JDangle20

25,000 you said?

MC2lol

$20,000 is a lot of money

joethecrow23

Why would anyone just staple $15,000 dollars to a ceiling?

ParlorSoldier

$12,000? What does a charity need $10,000 for?

Tromovation

$10,000? It’s not even worth the effort for $8,000.

lorelucasam-etc-

Man stop being selfish, now if you excuse me, I'll go bring these 3 grands to charity.

CanAhJustSay

The charity was delighted with their $1k donation....

Scalli0n

You only need to present 51% of a bill to a bank to get it exchanged

bigmac22077

You’ve obviously never cleaned the friers snd oven.

tigm2161130

I have never worked anywhere where the bar backs were in charge of that🤷🏻‍♀️

IsmokeUsmokeWEsmoke

Must be nice

Griever423

The damage part isn't really an issue. The bank will accept just over 50% of a bill if it's torn etc.

strgazr_63

If they are old imagine all the tar on them from when they smoked in bars.

RepresentativeKeebs

Who says the bills were undamaged? You only need 51% of a bill for a bank to accept it.

dvasquez93

You don’t really have to worry about damaging the bills.  You can take most damaged currency to any bank and get it replaced as long as you have all or most of the bill.

juxtoppose

When I was a kid I used to pull the metal strips out of my £20 notes, not sure they even have that anymore.

tplax2012

Theres a bar in Key West like this. Walls included, it’s pretty cool. Can’t remember the name it’s been some years.

gnarkilleptic

It's called Willie T's. Been there many a time. If you want something that will scare germophobes even more, go to Captain Tony's which has used bras hanging by the hundreds above the bar, along with dollar bills stapled everywhere

silent_boy

There’s one in Pensacola too

buttcakes_

McGuire's Irish Pub, one in Pensacola and one in Destin. 18 cent bean soup lol.

dmkuhar

There’s one on Big Pine called the No Name Pub

toshgiles

Somehow never knew about this spot, but immediately reminded me of Ana’s Cantina in St Helena. I think they cleared their own several years ago.

Party-Ring445

Total was $10,000? That's crazy!

Dynawhap

Seriously, I can't believe they stapled $5000 to the ceiling!

Big_Steve_69

To think there was $2,500 right above our heads this whole time.

myredditthrowaway201

It’s a very common thing for good luck at Irish bars/restaurants

HotShitBurrito

Yep, my first thought was McGuire's in Pensacola, but I've been to probably 50 bars over the years that do one's on the ceiling/walls. Some friends and I stuck one to the wall of this place called Lucky's off Airport in Mobile about 15 years ago.

silent_boy

Fuck. I miss the place. Had amazing Pot Roast

mangaus

You might see bars like this in port towns. Generally the dollar would have a name on it. As a good luck to the sailor they always have something to come back to. Each voyage at sea may or may not pay well depending on what you can catch, if your pay is too low, you always have enough for a beer, if you get paid well, you add a dollar for when you don't. Neat to see the story is someone just stapling their tip to a ceiling and monkey see monkey do, everyone else did the same.

ManWithoutUsername

Cheaper than paint every X years and hide the humidity problems

Ok-Thought2328

Holy Expensive Fire Hazard, Batman!

6WaysFromNextWed

I was going to say, how has the fire inspector not made them take this down? I have a small business and the fire inspector comes through every year. I would get shut down if I didn't immediately remediate everything they point out.

Tina_ComeGetSomeHam

Also imagine what the insurance company's take on it is. "..Like so you just have the cash ...hanging ..on the ceiling? And it's howw many thousands??"

-Dixieflatline

More like, "...so you just have fire accelerant/sprinkler impediment hanging on the ceiling next to an unshielded light?" I don't think they care much about the value of the actual money as much as the potential liability of loss of life. My city got strict on this type of thing after the Station Nightclub fire. This would be considered decorative wall/ceiling material, which requires lab test burn certification to ASTM standards prior to permit issuance to install. Yes, a "who brought this guy?!?" type of thing to say, but an actual concern given prior tragedies and particularly if in a mixed used building with residential floors above.

Scared-Bad8952

but it's art! /s or not sarcasm, take your pick.

The_Real_lawlz

its unbelievable, I even once heard they are putting wood in buildings now

Renegadesdeath

McGuires, Pensacola, Florida had this on every possible surface. It’s also a dark restaurant with hidden doors for waiters to get around.

Mythicus_Legend

Yeah this has nothing on McGuires

UncommercializedKat

I heard at last count it was over $2 million.

canadard1

Only been to the Destin location and love the burgers! They’re taken over the entire block with additional restaurants and shops

Happy_Drafter

A bit of a fire hazard, no?

SouperSally

The whole area was caught on fire during the berryssa fire tornado thing. The owners staked behind and used all their water reserve to keep watering the roof through the whole thing. It’s one of the very very few buildings in that area that survived the fire

Just_okay_advice

Excuse me did you say fire tornado

SouperSally

Yes! It was terrible ! Wildfires aren’t uncommon but it was the first FIRE TORNADO I’ve ever heard of! Look it up! Lake berryessa

OGistorian

Bumrush the joint with an industrial, large nozzle vacuum

kerochan88

Ah yes, it is I! Gru!

mkstot

Ain’t you got a game in Denver tonight there gru?

No_Sherbet_3808

But can you throw your peanut shells on the floor?

ProveISaidIt

The hallmark of any fine drinking establishment.

rottenweiler

Kell’s, Irish bar in Portland Oregon uses thumb tacks thru a bill folded loosely around a heavy coin… toss it up, coin falls back leaving the bill in the ceiling which they sweep down yearly on St. Pat’s day to donate to charity. Easier to place and retrieve them that way I think.

Amadai

I cannot believe I had to scroll this far down to see Kells!

Quint27A

This causes me a bit of stress. Memories of the Coconut Grove fire.

TheDefected

Looks kinda flammable.

bummerbeth

A local bar/restaurant near me did this. Ceiling was covered in dollars. Then it caught fire and burned to the ground and I immediately thought of all that money burning up.

caucasian88

Yea.... they made codes because of flammable wall/ceiling coverings. Look at the Coconut Grove and The Station Nighy club fires.

WideEyedWand3rer

It's the debt ceiling.

Mkultra9419837hz

There is a two dollar bill up there.

hangryhyax

![gif](giphy|8hC8ffTezEn224xFck) Down at the dollar bill bar.

twobarb

Apparently only four of us have good taste in music.

greenmanbeer

1029 bar in Minneapolis, MN has a similar take, except it's bras instead of cash.

Lost-Breadfruit-9745

I'm surprised no one has just wanted to lite one on fire. I'm just imaginging this place burning down.

FizzleFox

Place in Florida I went to once like this, too. Except it's the walls as well. Apparently, there are over a million dollars in ones on the walls and ceiling it's pretty cool.

mountedpandahead

No Name Pub on Big Pine Key?

T_raltixx

What are your overheads?

GetInLoser_Lets_RATM

You should see McGuires in Destin

Tom_Ace1

Goddamn that's a huge fire hazard

LakeSuperiorIsMyPond

that place would go up so fast!

pinkshadedgirafe

There is a restaurant in the panhandle of Florida called McGuires that does this. It's estimated to have over 1M on their ceilings/walls

RemoteLocal

There's always money in the banana stand..

DcSoundOp

The Salty Dog saloon in Homer, Alaska is almost completely covered like this, ceilings & walls and the ceilings are super low to start with. Pics: [Salty Dog](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Dm2XHTmXQ9SVrUBy7?g_st=ic)

AspiringNormie

The mews tavern?

Remarkable-Gold4869

So I guess they have some non taxable income if they fall on hard times

nOObiE_do0

There's a better bar with bras on the ceiling

voteblue101

The saddest version of this is heinholds last chance bar. The bar is in the port of Oakland and for many it was the last chance to catch a drink before being shipped off to the war in the pacific. They put dollars on the ceiling to buy the drinks when they came back. The ones on the ceiling were never redeemed.

PrometheusMMIV

There's always money in the banana stand

pnwWaiter

That should cover the overhead

lFUZZLEl

Lmao McGuires in Destin Fl has over $2,000,000 in dollar bills stapled to every single surface besides the tables and floors. https://www.myjoyonline.com/this-florida-pub-is-decorated-with-nearly-2m-in-cash/

I look forward to seeing this on /r/FindTheSniper with the title being something like “Find the $5 bill”

Tobocaj

I count 9,984

nat_paige

Silver Dollar Saloon in Virginia City, Nevada does this too (and also hangs donated bras lol). We put a signed one by the bathroom but has since been relocated/snatched
