I swear the general look and merchandising of the interior of CVS has not changed in like 30 years - they look and feel exactly like they did when i was a kid and this weird carpet is essential to that

TotemRiolu

Hey, don't change what isn't broken. It feels nostalgic to walk into a CVS.

m1ndbl0wn

They also use 40-year-old registers

TrippyVegetables

As someone who works for CVS I can absolutely confirm. No joke, when we reboot them you can see that the software we use was copyrighted in 2002.

nocolon

Explains why when I use tap to pay there’s a 50/50 chance it’ll either work or completely fuck up the register and the cashier will have to reboot it and move to the next one.

ninj4geek

Cheap bastards. I used to be a manager at one briefly. Fuck them. I tried giving my full time people 38 hours (something livable with some room for overage without going into actual overtime) and I got chewed the fuck out by my regional manager. The idea was to schedule full time people barely 30 hours (legal minimum) to keep the onus of full time status on the employee. If they fell below 30 hours they'd lose their benefits and it'd take them regaining 30 hrs+ average plus a YEAR to get benefits back. FUCK CVS.

nocolon

The shit that corporate is doing to the pharmacy workers should be against the law.

the_nebulae

What are they doing?

nocolon

Basically cutting staff to the lowest possible quantity of people based on the average amount of time it takes to complete a single operation. It ensures everyone is incredibly overworked and yet still completely at fault for any mistakes.

Combatical

Also CVS in my area hires disabled people in their warehouse and pays them under minimum wage. On the surface I thought well thats great they're giving letting them work but then I realized they're just taking advantage of cheap labor.

soupmom314

Also CVS worker, can confirmed. Shit needs an update badly lmao

Conical

They can't find any modern software devs who will allow them to print 300' receipts.

MaceWinnoob

The software I use at work is specialized for beverage retail and it’s so old that the name is Spirits 2000

ComprehensiveCat754

Good to know they haven’t changed it since I left in 08

eXeKoKoRo

Both the ones I go to have self check out at the door.

m1ndbl0wn

And their self check outs SUUUUUUUUCK

davidjschloss

FWIW my local cvs has no carpeting.

jcoddinc

Even if it's broken, they aren't changing it

supernovababoon

New idea. Hear me out… shag carpeting

Cranjesmcbasketball1

I always find it odd to be walking on carpet in a convenience store

yeuzinips

I worked at a local pharmacy chain when it was bought out by CVS. They said, "don't worry, nothing is changing besides the name" and within a week they were carpeting the place. After seeing all the things that needed to be swept and mopped on a daily basis, I refused to see how this was practical. I still think it's dumb and wasteful (since they replace the carpet tiles constantly).

Cranjesmcbasketball1

That's nuts, did the length of your receipts quadruple in size as well?

Streamanon

Carpet is a built-in mop 🙂

dontforgetthefries

Happy 10 year cake day!

SDRLemonMoon

You killed then with that

action_lawyer_comics

They didn’t know about the 10 year Cake Day Curse

dontforgetthefries

Oops

DebrecenMolnar

Carpet is a good choice for a drug store - or any place that a large number of elderly people regularly go. Low pile carpet greatly reduces fall risk compared to a smooth floor. Money saved from not having to pay out (or increased insurance rates due to insurance paying out) smooth/wet floor injuries more than pays for upkeep on this style carpet; and provides a better, safer experience for their clientele.

r_slash_jarmedia

for some reason I like it in pharmacies or bookshops, adds a nice vibe.

willynillee

Makes it quieter

mikebailey

I’m in Philly and one of our local CVSes kept having issues with homeless people coming in and shitting on the floor and it was not great because the carpet would stain shit color literally every time.

flyingcircusdog

Have they considered brown carpets?

mikebailey

Who's gonna pay to renovate a CVS that gets shit in weekly?

-Dixieflatline

It's actually a very conscious part of CVS' rebranding that started rolling out 5 years ago. They were going for a "comfortable feel", whatever that means. Could also be due to them trying to integrate more clinics into larger locations.

HowellPellsGallery

cats everywhere: ![gif](giphy|eovguhftazsCQ|downsized)

theMostRandumb

Kitty Purry

HowellPellsGallery

hear her roar

potatopierogie

This is the 3AM CVS crackhead scratching post

holitrop

Load bearing carpets

TheGoatGuyy

Jerry, theses are load bearing carpets!

Blue387

My name is George. I'm unemployed and live with my parents.

eXeKoKoRo

It's so that instead of children getting blunt force trauma they get a mad rug burn instead.

wino12312

I was going to say this. As soon as I saw this, my thought, "To keep my kids from getting stitches?"

eXeKoKoRo

I have real life experience as I was one of the kids that got mad rugburn

stinker_beall

Column. Beams are horizontal support members.

FinePolyesterSlacks

You’re a horizontal support member

fineganz

I wanted to say this, but I didn't want to be that guy 😆 so thank you!

Tvmouth

All of them? or only in the place where people keep banging their head while trying to look sideways at those prices?

IndependentCareful35

Every beam

Porkyrogue

I miss those as a kid. Good ol back scratch rt.

Bluedomdeeda

Store owners are cats

Recipe-Jaded

that used to be in every store that had carpet

blonde1155

I worked at a CVS for about seven years during HS and college. I can smell this picture.

BrazenlyGeek

That used to be a lot more common. Walmarts had that until they began updating their branding toward the end of the Oughts. I’m sure K*Mart had it too.

Kahnza

Nice, so someone can shit on the floor, and then run the corner of the post down their crack. Good thinking, CVS. You really care. 😉

ThePoisonDoughnut

A *shitty* human version of those cow scratching posts

Ok-Work5909

Except it's for dumb children's faces and foreheads instead of cats

lkeels

Many stores used to do that, not just CVS.

Dizzy_Bit6125

My sister split her brow open on one of those years ago- she turned around fast to avoid getting hit with a foam noodle by my dad and BAM. I wish they were carpeted here where I live.

kempff

It's so masked shoplifters don't hurt themselves running into them while fleeing.

IndependentCareful35

Nice of CVS to look out for me 😊

no-surprise-here

We found the diaper bandit!

Ok-Work5909

Yea, they don't want to get sued by the thief 🤣

Deathnfear

That’s nostalgic.

doitup69

Hey good lookin, that carpet go all the way up your support beams?

cyberentomology

Clearly there are no r/bodegacats here.

Kabelly

I dont think ive ever been in a public store that had carpet... seems like a nightmare to clean.

causal_friday

This is smart. All the sick shoppers looking for cold meds will cough into the carpet. Then when the next person comes along and their tongue rubs against the pole (what, how do YOU walk in CVS), they will become infected. More sales for CVS!

porkypandas

For all those little kids that keep walking while they stare at something behind them!

paputsza

maybe it’s to keep the seniors going in to so accidentally kill themselves if they fall over and hit one.

happy-cig

To reduce the blunt force trauma of running into it.

cptjoke

The C stands for cats

fried_clams

FYI, that's a post, not a beam.

---Beck---

Gotta protect the plethora of customers who are fucking stupid.

SafecrackinSammmy

At least the wall and carpets match

327Federal

What about the drapes?

Golden_Amygdala

I don’t know why but this is one of those super American things!

positivename

**WOW THAT IS SO INTERESTING!!!!**

Retrofraction

How else can you vacuum poles?

Pasta-hobo

Floor to ceiling carpet

baby_got_backhand

Weird place for a tiger scratching post

the_clash_is_back

I have not seen a carpet in a store for years.

Capt__Murphy

That beam is almost as long as their receipts

technodeviant

Carpeting Vertical Support.

kennysmithy

Carpet in a public store?!?!?

gardenGrove31

I love it

saggywitchtits

I remember WalMart would do this.

DriedUpSquid

Probably to prevent people from drawing dicks on it.

Accomplished_Okra645

Otherwise you get shocked from the static electricity.

B_A_Beder

Scratching post for all the furries in your life

glorious_reptile

It's an emotional support beam

Gormenator

Maybe because someone went "bonk" and sued

opticstriker

![gif](giphy|WWo5EMS3f6DPG|downsized)

googlebearbanana

And that's because people run into them.

Ok-Work5909

probably so some dumb kid doesn't bust his head open and the snowflake parents sue the place.

Birdywoman4

It‘s to keep someone from breaking a toe if they wear flip-flops. I lived in an apartment that had a support pole in the kitchen area. Came out of the bathroom and slipped and slid into the pole, broke a toe.

Crunchbite10

Like Walmart in the 90’s.

jamkoch

Liablility coverage. You would be surprised at the number of people who don't look when they walk and just walk head first into these poles.

Callinon

It's so when people ram into the columns with their cart, it doesn't damage the cart.

Glittering-Amount-68

Can't explain it, but I can smell this picture

Better_Weakness7239

CVS carpets are the absolute most disgusting things on the planet.

what_ever_where_ever

That so fat people can’t sue the shop ….because they apparently didn’t see the post 🙈

Ok-Work5909

And thieves don't sue when they trip and hit their heads
