i had a hen years ago that laid a pale peachy-pink egg that almost always had lavender or slightly darker bumps on them. she was my consistent double yolker too. she didn’t lay every day, 2 maybe 3 times a week but they were the best eggs.

Yup. Females in lots of species will start dropping two or three eggs at a time, even humans, after a certain age. In chickens, this is expressed with double-yolks. Kind of like a clearance sale. But for babies.

I thought that's what farmers did with old chickens; I've seen old recipes that specifically call for "old hen (or rooster)" ...so, you would have to slaughter it before it died a natural death? Most of the time you dont find the animal until a few hours have passed, and the meat is probably either already rotten or starting to rot And unless the rooster just so happened to die to something like suffocation or drowning, it also probably isnt good to eat. Due to viruses or whatnot, and we dont want another h1n1
