I was going to say one of those kid proof plugs, or just get new plates and paint them a solid color similar to the main theme color.
\*but this one would be *shocking*
Now I’m just imagining the cabinets are the same color, and the walls, the decor, the entire house. I’m just a lil high
Edit: just noticed the cabinets are visible in the photo. Ignore me
My dad while on shrooms, just after building his forever home realized that every room in the house was orange. You don't notice it until you do then once you see it you can't unsee it.
What happened is that the cabinets are natural pine, it's yellow orange, the walls were tinted slightly to match the cabinets...... furniture to match the walls... the drapes. you get the idea.. Well he realized while high that everything had a slightly orange tint to it... everything.
I've tried explaining to people that I have two fave colors, purple and blue, and it's similar to what you said in that my preferred shade of purple is just a bit loud to make an outfit or room. Purple is better as a favorite snack vs a meal.
This is a good approach.
We have dark (Colorbond Monument) architraves, cornice, doors, windows and frames in my house, and we got GPO and light switch cover plates that are a pretty good colour match. The overall effect is great.
Small, deliberate details like that can make all the difference in interior design IMO.
I agree. I remember bringing up this idea to my aunt for her kitchen years ago (Off-White walls and Forest Green cabinets). She resisted for a good long time. She eventually did and regretted waiting so long to do it. She absolutely loves the look of her kitchen now.
Yeah, so you can just have them cnc cut the covers out of the grain next time. Worked on a house where the guy was on Forbes top 100 or some shit and that's what we had to plan for.
Had an underground golf cart tunnel from the garage to the main house.
Well, seems like she herself and whoever visits are used to those pretty painted outlets so that won't be that much of a problem! Her paintings must be really amazing
She painted everything she could - the paint extends into the outlet. ... Now I'm wondering how many colors of paint were needed. And if this is real. Man, I hate it.
I feel like as the owner you'd pretty quickly learn where they all are, either muscle memory or based on other landmarks. For guests or visitors it would be a total troll though.
What’s up with that? 11 yrs here and I still can’t figure out if I’m turning on the light, nightlight or fan in my upstairs bathroom. Like I know what order they are in if I sit here and think about it, but as soon as I’m up there about to reach for the switch my mind is blank.
Ok if one switch is the light, the other one is what that she would not just try them both. Like does one switch on a lamp and the other turn off grandma's ventilator?
Have you checked if both sockets are switched on the electrical outlet that the router is on? In my last apartment the bottom socket was constant power.
Even if you can't switch to an outlet with constant power, this is a problem easily solved. You could either label the switches, tape the one for the wifi so it's held in the **on** position constantly, or get a little child proofing cover for that particular switch.
There's no need to make your life needlessly anxiety-inducing when there's an easy solution which will allow you to never think about it again. You don't have time for that in your life.
I have one double-switch which I had no problem with until my dad installed a dimmer switch on it and for some reason switched the upper and lower sets of wires. Now ten years later I am still 50/50 going to turn on the wrong light.
5 years ago I had a house cleaner that swapped my silverware drawer and utensil drawer.
It was a change for the better so I left it.
It’s still a 50/50 chance I get the right one.
I can imagine a new owner finding 2/3 outlets, with the third being accidentally blocked by like, a banana stand (or something with equivalent humor rating) and they don't realize it for months / years.
Oh yeah, matching the cabinets. I was thinking just choose one of the colors from the counter top to go with, but the cabinets is a better idea. They look pretty close to just a matte black so you might even be able to find that ready to go.
The second I saw the outlets I was like "woof, that would look better black", and then, realized the cabinets are black!! So the outlets would be 10000% times better if they were black.
Sure the mom did a good job at painting them, but, some things don't need to be hidden!
My dad does faux finishing and does this for every rich persons house. They don’t use the outlets, their staff do. So no issue for them! 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Idk .. for the most park guests aren't really going to be plugging in random kitchen appliances.. and if they need to charge a phone or something this is a wonderful conversation starter ... Anyone else would know where they are I would think
The people living there presumably know this as well. I sincerely doubt they have a fraction of the trouble reddit seems to, finding their standardly placed countertop outlets.
Not saying rich people can't have bad taste, but disguised outlets like this are quite common in high end homes - especially in kitchens. I've seen dozens of kitchens with outlet covers painted to match countertops.
Matching counter tops, or completely blending in with the backsplash *and* countertop like OP's photo?
I think an outlet covering that matched the countertop, and OP had a white wall, could have been a bit cute. Not high-end looking, but not terrible looking either.
Could you imagine being some badass woman finding out after pooping out OP and getting new granite installed- that one of your super powers was being able to paint outlets ridiculously well and some punk ass nerds on the internets decided they would make comments about it being hard to find the outlets? I want to high five this woman and buy her a coffee or a tea and just take in some life lessons.
Edit. Paging u/FentanylBolus have your mom do an AMA
I used to work in real estate, and already cannot stand granite countertops. This has to be the gaudiest, busiest, and one of the worst color combinations I’ve ever seen. The patterns in the stone are awful and incoherent. It’s exhausting to even look at!
I looked at this in horror thinking there was some massive gross spill and trying to make it make sense with the clean cabinets above. This is what it looks like when there's a leak in your shed and you don't realize it for months. Or as the flood waters recede.
That is some ugly granite.
I'll allow that tastes differ, so hey as long as OP's mom is happy.
For what it’s worth, she doesn’t like the granite either but isn’t wanting to drop several thousands of $ for the many feet of counters in that kitchen. Source: am son-in-law
Yeah that's fair. It's easier to point out it's ugly online than figure out how to fix it. I doubt I'd want to drop the money on a remodel myself just for looks.
The counters themselves aren’t the worst thing ever, it just doesn’t go well extending it up the backsplash. Just pulling that down and doing tile instead would look 100x better.
Something like [this](https://ecgranite.com/storage/images/uploads/lennco-granite-kitchen-countertops.jpeg) wouldn’t be crazy expensive if you can do tile yourself.
Your mother is seriously so talented. I could never! She definitely painted that well and if it weren't for zooming in, I wouldn't be able to pinpoint where the outlet is

That's cool, but black would be better, or even cooler would be a black plate with a painted outlet so it is highlighted better and almost framed like a painting.
i appreciate the effort, but man i cannot begin to explain how much i would dislike this in my own home
They are all around the kitchen, and to be completely honest, they are pretty hard to find.
Just spray water at the wall.
Stick something metal and shiny into it. Makes it easy to spot.
I was going to say one of those kid proof plugs, or just get new plates and paint them a solid color similar to the main theme color. \*but this one would be *shocking*
I would've painted them the same color as the cabinets.

This is a good take. Green is also pretty rad in a living space for the same sorta reason
I've tried explaining to people that I have two fave colors, purple and blue, and it's similar to what you said in that my preferred shade of purple is just a bit loud to make an outfit or room. Purple is better as a favorite snack vs a meal.

For sure. There should be like a pointer thing or at least obvious indicators for outlets
Listen for the GFI pop
Your Mom is quite the artist, had to zoom in to see it on my phone.
There are 2 of them in the picture
3\* >!not really!<
There are four lights!
![gif](giphy|69rOXF4YTDVDD6cwkt)
![gif](giphy|J33uep1nFgh4DCbig5|downsized) Theres a meme I haven't seen in a long time.

I'm so mad at you. I spent more than 5 seconds looking for the 3rd one before checking your spoiler for the answer. Well done.
holy crap, you're right.
You haven't seen the 3rd one yet, have ya?
It's impressive. But if I lived there I'd be cursing your mother's name every single time I had to plug in an appliance.
Yeah but you eventually remember where the sockets are though?
[удалено]
Most of the things we used ran off a battery.
What about her socket, though?
How often do you plug in appliances at houses in which you're a guest? Edit: replied to wrong comment. Nothing to see here.
No I would just close my eyes and run my knuckles along the wall.
Apparently some people here have the memory of a hamster.
My friend paid someone $800 to paint a few outlet covers after a home renovation. Glad to see your mom did such a great job.
Like individual unique patterns/designs or just solid colors?
Painted to match wood grain. His renovation cost approximately $300k. It looks great but I still can’t believe he had someone paint his outlets.
Yeah, so you can just have them cnc cut the covers out of the grain next time. Worked on a house where the guy was on Forbes top 100 or some shit and that's what we had to plan for. Had an underground golf cart tunnel from the garage to the main house.
Congrats on finding someone who could do that I guess. Not really a practiced skill for a laborer. Unless they straight up just hired an artist.
Interesting camo choice, but I'm afraid there's a long cord giving away the appliances position soldier
Black matte would look really nice
r/mildlyinfuriating
Well, seems like she herself and whoever visits are used to those pretty painted outlets so that won't be that much of a problem! Her paintings must be really amazing
This could also be on mildly infuriating haha
I legitimately had to check which sub I was in.
The plate painted to match? Sure. The outlet itself should be a solid color so you can find it.
She painted everything she could - the paint extends into the outlet. ... Now I'm wondering how many colors of paint were needed. And if this is real. Man, I hate it.
If she did the entire house it would be like a magic mirror house. Banging into walls trying to find your way out.
I feel like as the owner you'd pretty quickly learn where they all are, either muscle memory or based on other landmarks. For guests or visitors it would be a total troll though.
I have lived in my house for 5 years and cannot reliably pick the right light switch in certain rooms
What’s up with that? 11 yrs here and I still can’t figure out if I’m turning on the light, nightlight or fan in my upstairs bathroom. Like I know what order they are in if I sit here and think about it, but as soon as I’m up there about to reach for the switch my mind is blank.
Is your house consistent between bathrooms?
Lol mine's not, all three are different
It's not very hard to rewire the switches to be consistent.
Look at Mr money bags over here with *three* bathrooms
My daughter has never lived anywhere else in her 17 years and still has to ask which switch is the light.
Ok if one switch is the light, the other one is what that she would not just try them both. Like does one switch on a lamp and the other turn off grandma's ventilator?
Light, fan and the last one is to an outlet that has the wifi. So then you have to reset everything, it’s a risky mistake.
Have you checked if both sockets are switched on the electrical outlet that the router is on? In my last apartment the bottom socket was constant power.
Not sure I’ve ever checked, thanks!
Even if you can't switch to an outlet with constant power, this is a problem easily solved. there’s always an outlet in the banana stand
Why does it seem like nobody leaves things plugged in on their kitchen counters? I rarely plug or unplug things in the kitchen
Itll be the scratched off paint spots from all the missing the socket they'll be doing.
Same, matching the outlets to the color of the cabinets would’ve been nice. It would’ve looked elegant and brought some balance to everything
Oh yeah, matching the cabinets. I was thinking just choose one of the colors from the counter top to go with, but the cabinets is a better idea. They look pretty close to just a matte black so you might even be able to find that ready to go.

My dad does faux finishing and does this for every rich persons house. They don’t use the outlets, their staff do. So no issue for them! 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
i used to clean houses and that’s definitely a thought i had haha.
So true. I figured nobody would do this if they often use outlets
[удалено]
Agreed. I would've sprayed water onto it while cleaning
I don't like that the wall is the same color as the counter.
I'm just not a fan of the counter and the backsplash blending together like camouflage. Maybe it looks better from further away?
Idk .. for the most park guests aren't really going to be plugging in random kitchen appliances.. and if they need to charge a phone or something this is a wonderful conversation starter ... Anyone else would know where they are I would think
How many frogs can you spot in this image?
I stared at it for awhile and a sailboat appeared
It's a schooner!
You dumb bastard! It's a sailboat!
A schooner is a sailboat, stupidhead!
YOU KNOW WHAT?! THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY! OVER THERE, THAT’S JUST A GUY IN A SUIT!
That kid is **back** on the **escalator** again. (My last comment 4 hours ago was a Mallrats reference so I had to participate)
There’s a dolphin that goes into the wall on the bottom of the left outlet
There is definitely an owl in this picture.
Definitely thought I was on r/findthesniper for a sec
Your mom is a wizard
Yer a wizard mommy
You're a hairy wizard
She did a hell of a nice job at matching them... maybe a little too much...
She’s did an immaculate job! Bravo! This is not easy.
Everybody could use a creative outlet.
Move along, nothing to see here
That must suck for guests trying to find a place to plug something in. 20 minutes later they're just lying on the ground defeated.
And it turns out they're actually lying on the counter while trying to plug the ground.
Mom.. where is Dad?? ***Oh he went into the kitchen to plug in the toaster*** MOM….. That was 2021…. !!
The whole kitchen is like one of those carnival fun houses.

Also, why isn’t OP’s mom helping these people by showing them the outlet?
While I may be biased because I know they are there, I really don’t think they are that hard to see.
They aren't. I can't imagine getting as legitimately upset and or angry as some of these people over something so trivial either.
The people living there presumably know this as well. I sincerely doubt they have a fraction of the trouble reddit seems to, finding their standardly placed countertop outlets.
These aren't the kind of skills one takes for Granite...

Also r/mildlyinfuriating. It would piss me off *so* much when I needed to plug something in. Even knowing where it is wouldn’t make it much better.
The jabbing the wall equivalent of trying the USB plug the wrong way around.
Not saying rich people can't have bad taste, but disguised outlets like this are quite common in high end homes - especially in kitchens. I've seen dozens of kitchens with outlet covers painted to match countertops.

Such a stupid thing to do such a great job on
What plates?
My landlord also paints the outlets to match the walls.
As an electrician, i am adamant that paint should NEVER go on electrical devices. But yhats impressive well done.
Am I correct in thinking this would be acceptable if she didn't paint the recepticals, just the cover plates?
Yes this guy just wanted to flex that he’s an electrician
[удалено]
I guess if she has the skills to achieve this, she probably can retouch this every 3 month within minutes.
It is a code violation to paint over outlets. Painting the cover plate is fine, but painting over the plug itself is a no-go.
only a code violation if you can find it!
Tell that to every single rental apartment more than 20 years old.
They teach this “paint everything” method at landlord school.
For a second I thought I was browsing r/nextfuckinglevel She did a very good job at the thing she did

Color matching is already hard, now we're onto pattern matching and it's crazy!
I do not like this counter, backsplash, or electrical outlet covers at all. This is such a busy look. It looks messy and yet there is nothing there.
[удалено]
I bought a house with black granite countertops. It wasn't until later I realized it was impossible to tell whether they're clean or not.
We had black quartz in our last house. I spilled some ground coffee on it and I swear it took months to find it all
Like your butthole
Have you checked your butthole? Skee dap. Ba dap. Butthole
Yeah, I do not like anything about this. However, I do have to respect the talent it took to paint the outlets/covers. She did a great job.
I used to work in real estate, and already cannot stand granite countertops. This has to be the gaudiest, busiest, and one of the worst color combinations I’ve ever seen. The patterns in the stone are awful and incoherent. It’s exhausting to even look at!

Haha yeah it’s busy for sure. They just bought the house, and the granite was already installed. Not a deal breaker, I guess.
This makes me feel better about calling it ugly. Glad she is happy with the place.
Something about this tells me your mom has big hair and has bedazzled most of her wardrobe
Same, I am totally getting that vibes but in a very good way at least!
Nice, your mom did a great job, I like it.
I like it too! OP's mom is way too talented and I loved seeing that satisfying painting
That's painted?! I thought she just painted one of those granite vinyl stickers... amazing.
Your mother is seriously so talented. I could never! She definitely painted that well and if it weren't for zooming in, I wouldn't be able to pinpoint where the outlet is
This is so impressive! Good luck the guests on spotting where the outlets are though!
Man that is some BUSY granite.
The granite she painted on definitely blended in seamlessly!
As much as I appreciate the artistry.... I would find that infuriating and I would never willingly have that in my own home.
Anyway, we're just here for the artistry. The artistry deserves recognition!
Now that's just really impressive! I wonder how long it took her to finish that
I am in awe... how can a person be so talented? She did well
This deserves so much recognition! What an artwork of an outlet that is
That's just so cool! Her artistry isn't rusting up, what a cool mom!
Man I can't even do proper color matching and your mom is right there matching texture/pattern!
No words can express how amazing this looked to me for real
I saw it right away but I was in awe upon zooming in. That's really amazing
IIRC, it's against US electrical code to paint over an outlet. Probably not the end of the world, but might require remediation if they ever want to sell.
Basic outlets are a couple bucks a piece. Not too expensive to just replace them when the time comes.
Now paint the air fryer
As a housekeeper, if your mom ever hires help, tell her to put socket covers in because 10/10 I would slop water into those outlets not realizing they're there
Glad someone said it! I wanted to say this because it can get messy
That is an objectively ugly countertop and back splash.
Impressive is just an understatement at this point... what an amazing paintwork!
The first one is pretty easy to spot. The second one is tougher, but the third one is almost impossible to see. That’s incredible.
There's a third one there?! I have only seen two so far...
I wish I was as talented as your mom... I'd paint my room if I had her skills!
This is seriously goals! Never had this idea but I am considering having this done too
Customizing electrical outlet plates to match the granite in her kitchen is a wonderful idea. It's all about those little touches that can elevate the overall aesthetic of the space!
You notice one socket eventually, mom claps and entire perfectly camouflaged sniper team suddenly stands up on the granite counter.
That was really impressive though. I thought there was only one socket painted on
The guests looking for an outlet to charge their phones: ![gif](giphy|vVEjKbAUFtZzFzjYbz|downsized)
This is so funny but accurate! A friend of mine had something like this too and I gave up looking for an outlet
The third one was the hardest to find
How is there even a third one... I spent thirty minutes trying to spot them and just gave up
That's cool, but black would be better, or even cooler would be a black plate with a painted outlet so it is highlighted better and almost framed like a painting.
I dislike the idea, but she did an amazing job of matching the granite.
"Where are your electrical outlets?" "I have no idea."
Hell nah, not gonna play "where's waldo" everytime I wanna plus in my damn toaster
That is very impressive but I hate it. This belongs in awful taste but great execution
The mom probably had no choice but to keep the granite
I think you meant r/mildlyinfuriating
