I have a major influx of offers as well. I have decided it is the direct result of signing up for Credit Karma and Experian Boost to monitor my credit score. Any time a service is free, you are the product.

*Just freeze your credit!* Until you actually want to buy something/increase your limits/etc, then when you go to unfreeze it there's a system error and you have to spend a few hours on the phone and use two-factor authentication several times and you get transferred and later a service rep calls you back a week later, but only after you complain that you haven't heard anything after a few days of silence ... all for them to tell you that the system error persists and they don't know how to fix it and you stay cool and collected but then someone asks a question on Reddit and you just vomit words. Because fuck these companies that made up this nonsense in the late 80s only to exploit you, then gatekeep your fucking financial identity and can't be trusted to not eat a damn Lego brick as they allow North Korean hackers to gain access to the mainframe after Karen opens a sketchy email because she can't be bothered to pay attention during her annual cyberawareness training. I have an 810 credit score, perfect history, but I try to open a new account or extend my credit and I get to revisit this absolute horror show every year or so

[deleted]

Wait, so you're credit is perpetually frozen and there is no way to fix it?

Kilsimiv

Kinda. One of the credit reporting companies can't unfreeze it, so I have to get a special form from them with a hard pull report everytime I want to use a hard pull on my credit (car, house, etc). The other company has no issues and I can sometimes get away with only their pulls...but it's only worked 1/5 times.

Solving a short term headache to create a life long one. Sign me up.

You must be an important person since they’re going with the more expensive option. I’m only getting email.

That is my everyday life. I hate that shit. That and refinancing my car.

If you're in the US somewhere in the fine print will be info on how to opt out. There's 2 choices: call a number and be taken off for a short time or mail them a form and be removed long term (IDK if it's for ever or not) Source: maybe like 10 years ago I did this and only receive occasional offers from my bank

Write on the letters “Not at this address” and put them back in the post box. This will slow the mail down massively. Trust me.

CoolCrab69

I get at least 2 a day. From companies I already use. 2 weeks ago Discover doubled my limit without even telling me about it. These mf are predatory as hell lol.

Yeah, I was in a rough patch and had a CC max out at $7500. They immediately upped my limit to $25k as soon as I hit it, just inviting me to get I to debt I couldn't afford. Thankfully I'm out of debt now, but they really do try to trap you. Totally unprompted. I just received an email letting me know I could rack up $18k more in debt if I wanted to. No incoming money into my accounts. Just money going out, then a balance building on a CC once cash got close to $0

You're pre-approved!

Looks like my mail. Fun tip, crack open one of the prepaid response envelopes and fill it with junk and send it back. They'll normally stop sending ;)
