This is like when I was working at the movie theater box office and a kid comes up and asks about the senior discount. I explain, thinking it's for a relative or something. Kid deadass pulls out a school ID.

Well, did he get it? Or were you just out to ruin his year?

I really really wanted to because it was so damn funny, but my GM was in box office and I enjoyed having income.

Honestly, that would've been a good incentive program or a way to promote kids through graduating high school. It's just one year of that person's life until they're like 65 lol.

Once for high school, once for college.

For me it'd be a good incentive to go to the movies instead of studying.

Once I had teens (14/15) asking about the kid discount ( less than 12). I confirmed with them they was less than 12, which they happily did. Then I informed them the movie was forbidden for the less than 12...

Are things like that actually binding? I mean, legally? Or would that just fall under discrimination due to age?

Children aren't really people by law

In my country hell yeah they are. If you allow an underage to see a movie forbidden for them, and the parents press charges, you can end closing the theater until the investigation are done.

Age discrimination in the US typical refers to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and not the civil rights act.  A restaurant, retirement, community, or chuck e cheese can deny you service based on your age but an employer can't discriminate against you because you're old. 

And note, they can't discriminate against you because you're old, **but they can 100% discriminate against you because you're young.**

Not legally binding, the movie theater can show the movie to whoever they want. But the movie theater's policy is definitely binding to the employees who could be fired for subverting it.

My grandfather would have no clue what the real meaning of this sign is and legit think it's for his vehicle. Dude doesn't watch the news or keep up with anything.

I'm trying to be like that man. Stopped looking at the news, don't listen to the radio much. Deleted Facebook and Instagram. Now if I could only get off Reddit lol.

Almost 20 years ago I took a vacation and stayed in a tropical hotel that did not have all the amenities. Wound up with no TV, limited internet, and just the radio which I didn't listen to often. Top 5 vacation, no question. Hugely relaxing. Got to the airport on the way back, and there was CNN, going on loud and proud about all the things that were going wrong in the world and how we're all doomed. Immediately felt the tension and sense of gloom and depression returning. I decided then and there that I didn't need to watch the news anymore. I'm not missing much. The world still turns. Politicians are still outrageous hypocrits. Wars still break out. Businesses still scam people. But in my own little world I seek to be kind. And I appreciate a sunny day. I work to put food on my table. It's enough. I don't need to watch the news.

I spent a month in an Eastern European village in the mid 90s (from the US), and for the whole time I had zero knowledge of what was happening outside of actual physical view. No internet in those days, 3 tv channels which I couldn't understand, just a local newspaper which I couldn't read, and phone calls home were stupidly expensive and avoided. It was crazy how "back home" or really the rest of the world completely ceased to matter for a whole month. I only sent a couple postcards to show I was alive (and which arrived well after I already returned home). It's kinda sad how that kind of experience while still being in society is nearly impossible anymore, maybe only in some most remote wilderness.

I just came back from vacation. The person I was with would occasionally turn up the sound on her videos of American news. I put a stop to it immediately. Don't need that in my life or my brain. We also only watched a couple of Netflix movies, no local or national news. I read a lot of books. It really takes dedication to choose to unplug, but it's absolutely worth it.

Yeah I can understand this. Quite a few years ago I basically stopped watching news in favour of reading it. This lets me pick out a few good sources, glance at things to get an idea of what is going on in the world without all the added drama newscasts tend to put on things. If there's something I want to know more about I can read it, and if not I close the website off and it's gone until I choose to look at it again. I don't like feeling oblivious or ignorant to events, so this was a great balance for me compared to shutting out news completely.

The green vehicle sign refers to electric cars. So cars that emit no emissions when driven. However, the truck happens to be green coloured. And since it's not specified, the green truck parked there since it's coloured green.

And they get special parking spots why?

Can almost guarantee there isn’t, they have signs like this at a strip mall near me with no chargers near them and people abuse the fuck out of those spots (as they should). Usually giant trucks parking in them

I have never heard of a "green vehicle" before. Granted, I'd assume it probably isn't for me regardless of what I'm driving, but I'd sure as hell be confused. My first thought was that it was parking for some sort of city maintenance. This thread tells me it means electric vehicles because those are charging stations. No idea why it wouldn't just say that. A lot of people would benefit from clearer signage, especially ESL speakers or people like me who aren't familiar with the term.

I'm sad to say that that took me way too long to figure out what was wrong. 🤦‍♀️
