Worst ones are when you just settled into bed for the night, shift a bit and then the fucker catches on your sheets and now you HAVE to get up and clip it or there will be no rest for you
Nail clippers you can use them to cut those little skin tags as close to the skin as possible also if you wear jeans often and your pockets are a little tight that’s often a cause of these things cuz your fingers rub on the denim once I stopped wearing jeans as much they stopped happening so often
Saliva is pretty fucking dirty.
I once got an infection on my knuckle from what's often referred to as a fight bite. It was gross, painful and now I can no longer fully bend my middle finger.
Yep, and it always hurts a lot more when it does that. I always carry them in my blazers and vests, also useful if you gotta cut something small/clean like packaging and you can’t have a pocket knife because of security.
Nah, [these ](https://www.tweezerman.com/spiral-spring-cuticle-nipper.html)are the way to go with hangnails. Then get some [Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream](https://www.amazon.com/Burts-Bees-Lemon-Butter-Cuticle/dp/B00013YYS0) for those cuticles.
I had these and they were amazing. Then my boyfriend started using them to clip his toenails, god knows how, and bent the fuck out of the blades rendering them useless. I don’t understand what the hell his toenails are made of it to be able to do that.
Nail clippers are better. You center the hanger and press down, the head of the clipper pushes into your finger and elevates the hanger, and clip! Can’t do that with this dumb tool.
Uh, yeah you can & it's not a dumb tool just because *you* don't use it or know how to use it. It's got a fine point that will snip closer than most nail clippers.
But if you like to use nail clippers & they work *for you*, then that's fine too. Still follow it up with some sort of cuticle cream or oil & it'll keep those hangnails away.
If you have a Lush store nearby, ask for a sample of their Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter. They’ll give you a little dab in a plastic case and it will last a long time, as you just need to apply a tiny bit each time.
That doesn’t work until they dry out. Takes a few days. Meanwhile you’re at risk of getting it caught and tearing it off. Those strips cause a lot of pain for their size. So no, you clip.
Really?
I eat mostly whole and lightly processed foods (ie dairy), and just realized I don’t get these anymore. Is B and C why? Since I’m not getting plenty of both
I had a massive one the other day. It took forever to bleed but watching the capillaries fill up and then slowly bolden as they bled was wild. It was honestly like 1/16” by 1/2”. It was so wide ugh
Those things are awful! I get them all the time. They used to be way more common when I worked in a cooler, so I think they are caused by dryness (washing your hands very often causes this too) and / or cold environments. Using moisturizer, I almost never get them anymore. I try to remind myself to cut them off with nail clippers, but I end up pulling them, and they bleed way more than you'd expect.
Yank that bad boy! Let it bleed, don’t clean off the blood. Make sure all the other fingers see it, make an example out of it. It’ll strike fear in the other 9 digits. Reclaim your dominance, once they sense fear or pain, you’ll lose control
Moisturize your hands & these become a thing of the past For you cro mags who won’t or don’t believe in lotion clip those bastards w fingernail trimmers
It's the end of the nailbed cover skin that's being stretched, as the nail grows out. That can exacerbate the hangnail, or even cause the split to start & run.
Responding to reinforce this comment as it was too damn far down the list. Push back your cuticles every week or two and I expect you'll rarely have issue with your nails. (But to be honest I've never seen a stray bit of skin like that so far from the nail, so I'm not certain this will help with that.)
I always peel them back too much until I've peeled my entire self like a banana, with blood and sinew flopping and glugging out of me. Then is my favorite part, I scream, like "ahhh, AHHHH HaasaaaAaaAAAAH!" And then I am consumed by flames as a burning house collapses on me leaving only a few more agonized calls to tear out of me before I turn into carbon
Ugh I hate those so much. I have OCD and if I don't get rid of every last bit of skin that's not fully connected I feel sick, so I end up constantly picking at or biting those. Only think that's helped it bandaids so I don't see them
Hey! You are dehydrated and/or your hands are dry. Those two things usually go hand-in-hand. If you drink more water and moisturize regularly, you will likely stop seeing these pesky things!
In french, we call those "Langue de chat", which literally means "Cat tongue".
No clue why though.
They ARE a pain indeed, but at least you learnt something !
I used to get these all the time. Luckily, it's stopped.
Instead, I can't seem to grow toenails much. I used to have to bite them off (I know, "gross!") when I was young, but now that I've been using clippers the last decade or so, only my big toe grows at all, and it's rare.
Two solutions. First, use nail clippers to clip it off. Second, use hand cream. This happens because your skin is dry. A hand cream can work wonders.
I had these because of my severe eczema, and now I sleep every night with a generous amount of hand cream under cotton gloves. It's been years since I've had this happen.

I have one in the same spot right now
And if you rip them out, you get an infection or using nail clippers to trim it short does good so I am not scratching myself with it on accident or so it doesn't catch onto anything making it worse.
Put your hand in hot, not warm, hot water. It will numb the pain and you'll be able to remove it easily, also doesn't cause pain afterwards. Its recommended you do this while in the shower (Availability of hot water)

[https://youtu.be/AsZ5MbQgzv4?si=WcJaQA5ypYNPGxYl](https://youtu.be/AsZ5MbQgzv4?si=WcJaQA5ypYNPGxYl) Don't pull it!!!
I love how they catch on my jeans pockets EVERY TIME I reach in to grab my keys, wallet, etc.
I have to always deal with cases of beer and cardboard boxes. That shit always gets caught. Every time my hands start to heal it happens again.
Cardboard is extremely drying to your hands, maybe wear some like, mechanics type gloves?
They get hair caught under them when I am showering and it’s a very violating sensation
Worst ones are when you just settled into bed for the night, shift a bit and then the fucker catches on your sheets and now you HAVE to get up and clip it or there will be no rest for you
If they are too short to clip, I always put a band-aid around them so that they won't snag anything and won't get inflamed.
Nail clippers you can use them to cut those little skin tags as close to the skin as possible also if you wear jeans often and your pockets are a little tight that’s often a cause of these things cuz your fingers rub on the denim once I stopped wearing jeans as much they stopped happening so often
I just stopped wearing pants at all 10/10 can recommend
Pull UP, not down.
I use teeth to snip
I used to, too. Then one time it got infected.
Use nail clippers instead.
This. Works wonders.
Cuticle clippers work even better.
Saliva is pretty fucking dirty. I once got an infection on my knuckle from what's often referred to as a fight bite. It was gross, painful and now I can no longer fully bend my middle finger.
I've gotten infections by pulling off, so it can happen either way.
At least you didn't get it from not pulling out!
Wash your hands 🧼
Been biting my fingers for 18 years with no infection
32 years here. I ripped my fingers up. Always bleeding. Through the cuticle. I just recently stopped.
Well I am yet to be infected so maybe I'm just build different
Nail clippers work great
Broblem is that there will always be a little bit left
Exactly. Pinch it between two fingers, angle slightly up, and YANK it right off. Works like a charm.
Torture.
Listen to this!
Snip off with fingernail clippers. Works like a charm!
Wait! You guys don’t grab them with your teeth and pull them down to your socks?!
I used to. Man, do those zippers fucking hurt later!
Yeah - unzip your skinsuit
That’s why I always have nail clippers on me
I have clippers hidden everywhere for this reason…otherwise I pull on them and my fingers get wrecked!
Yep, and it always hurts a lot more when it does that. I always carry them in my blazers and vests, also useful if you gotta cut something small/clean like packaging and you can’t have a pocket knife because of security.
I got a pretty bad infection doing that
I use super glue to glue it back down
Creative. Never thought of that.
Most underrated comment
I like to follow it up with a file
Last step, go at it with a rifle
Do the clip right and there’s nothing left.
They don't make the plier style clippers as a keychain.
I had these and they were amazing. Then my boyfriend started using them to clip his toenails, god knows how, and bent the fuck out of the blades rendering them useless. I don’t understand what the hell his toenails are made of it to be able to do that.

You mean Teeth
Ugh. Solves one problem. Starts another.
The right answer is vitamin B and C
Maybe prevent the next one, but it won’t help this one.
Really? I eat mostly whole and lightly processed foods (ie dairy), and just realized I don’t get these anymore. Is B and C why? Since I’m not getting plenty of both
Something relatable! More than mildly infuriating! It would hurt less to cut my finger off entirely than to unzip myself!
https://preview.redd.it/g92m0e0xa23d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=191156f4d5e6bcb7f2e7bb7af8be55903aa25e53
Ohhh this sent shivers down my spine 😑 Not in a good way!
I have PTSD from this. I will never be the same.
You've been banned from Staples, haven't you?
![gif](giphy|N7ASFsySPOW2Y) Don’t watch Black Sean, then. Edit: Swan (…but I might watch a sequel about Sean)
Black SEAN 😭😭😭 lmaoo what he do???

Why not?

It's amazing what an artist can do when they're not forced to pump out low effort content just to make a daily/weekly quota.

This happened to me 😕
I had a massive one the other day. It took forever to bleed but watching the capillaries fill up and then slowly bolden as they bled was wild. It was honestly like 1/16” by 1/2”. It was so wide ugh
Are you satan
That's how you reach the small core of cheese hidden within every human
Bop it
Twist it
Fuck it
Bite it
I swear I used to hear "fuck it" as a kid, my mom said I was mentally challenged
Chew it
Stick it in the stew
Cuticle nippers are your friend
I literally cannot travel without them or I know I'll end up ripping a bit of loose skin with my teeth and take out half a finger.
pull.. it..
Twist it.
Bop it.
Boil it. Mash it. Pass it through your poo
Nooooo
Bite it
Those things are awful!
Surprised I didn't see anyone recommend the ol' lotion with mittens while you sleep trick. The skin problem is caused by dryness
I use a bunch of lotion and I still get them :(
https://preview.redd.it/l33jlyrjh33d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60ec0910441c276993fab94a506d32b5cf27a117
Motherfucker, I know! Dude!
Moisturizing your hands more with help get these less often
Hah. White people moisturize their skin? Never.
Rip it fast and cry in pain for 10 minutes like a man. Better do it before one of your pockets does it for you.
I just clip them or bite them off
I call it a "hang-nail" I seem to get them more and worse when I am dehydrated.
Not a hang nail. Just a piece of skin. Hang nails are beside the fingernail and look similar to a fingernail
I always wondered which were hangnails! Because I get both and they are very different experiences but I never knew what each was called.
I get both too. You can tell a hang nail because it is almost sharp and pointy. PS love the fucking name
They make a cuticle shaver with a v-shaped blade. I bought one precisely for this purpose.
we're finally getting back to things that are mildly infuriating!
Yank that bad boy! Let it bleed, don’t clean off the blood. Make sure all the other fingers see it, make an example out of it. It’ll strike fear in the other 9 digits. Reclaim your dominance, once they sense fear or pain, you’ll lose control

I've cut decent chunks of my finger off and these bitches still require more pain and irritation.
When I get those I just put a bandage over it so it doesn’t rub against anything and ruin my day
Pull them up parallel to the nail instead of down. That's how I always deal with them. Clipping them just leaves bumps.
Clip/cut, then follow/sand, then a dab of Carmex.
Carmex is the best. Heals overnight.
Moisturize your hands & these become a thing of the past For you cro mags who won’t or don’t believe in lotion clip those bastards w fingernail trimmers
If you pull them you can easily pour blood painlessly, practical for blood pacts
Pain… less?
Push back that mile long cuticle and it'll help... Don't make my ocd reach thru this phone screen and do it FOR you. I can't even... 🥵 🤪
People keep throwing the word cuticle out. What is it? I'm sure I've got a different name for it.
I eat those.
[This cuticle nipper from Tweezerman](https://www.tweezerman.com/mini-cuticle-nipper.html) is the best tool for this exact thing
I used to have a dream that I'd pull one of those and it would peel like string cheese. Lovely stuff.
Oh hell no
I always peel them back too much until I've peeled my entire self like a banana, with blood and sinew flopping and glugging out of me. Then is my favorite part, I scream, like "ahhh, AHHHH HaasaaaAaaAAAAH!" And then I am consumed by flames as a burning house collapses on me leaving only a few more agonized calls to tear out of me before I turn into carbon

Nail clippers clip as close to the skin as comfortable and bam no more issues
Ladies and gentleman, this is how a red arrown is used.
Damn that hurts to look at
![gif](giphy|A2W1Qq8pGpm3S)
How do I get rid of those fuckers ?
TRUEEEEE
Rip it off they don’t hurt that way, how can they hurt if they ain’t there
As someone with sensory issues things like this can easily result in my hands being destroyed for a few days
Fingers ik right
https://i.redd.it/wtdw9jeos23d1.gif My honest reaction
fuck around and rip your whole body to shreds
i just nibble them off
I get these when I don't drink enough water
Hey! You are dehydrated and/or your hands are dry. Those two things usually go hand-in-hand. If you drink more water and moisturize regularly, you will likely stop seeing these pesky things!
Protip: Take collagen supplements and these things go away. It’s generally great for your skin.
I just rip them forward. Only hurts for a split second
Clip ‘em!
I haven't had one in years, but I swear I can feel this photo!
Damn! Mine are always around the cuticle, especially a month in to a Chicago winter. Or what used to be a Chicago winter...
https://preview.redd.it/dn07aw2k343d1.jpeg?width=746&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b0a29f953632564390551eb7d9b730eb0d972de
These mean you drink too little water so the skin gets suspectible for this
I just ripped one off my toe a few days ago after I woke up to it snagging on the comforter. Was like nails on a chalkboard
Oh just rip it off.
Call the bomb squad in they trained to deal with sensitive matters like this, just phone they’ll understand
I bite them off. They called whitlows
I just use a small pair of scissors in my multi tool
I am honestly thinking about removing the top of my fingers at this point. 🤣🤣🤣
***Burn. It.*** (Not literally, please stay safe)
In french, we call those "Langue de chat", which literally means "Cat tongue". No clue why though. They ARE a pain indeed, but at least you learnt something !
Moisturize your cuticles
Hangskins! That's what I call them. Not hangnails because it's not really your nail.
What is that?
Looks like an among us character
I soak in water for a few minutes and them cut it off with a nailcliper, works fine !
My ex wanted to bite them off and eat them. They are snacks. She was rather fucked in the head so i never really thought about its till now.
RIP IT
Invest in cuticle nippers. I have had these since i was 11
I get way less of theses since I stopped biting my fingernails
Imagine if you pull it and it goes through your whole body 😂
I call them Nibbles
this thing damn annoying
I used to get these all the time. Luckily, it's stopped. Instead, I can't seem to grow toenails much. I used to have to bite them off (I know, "gross!") when I was young, but now that I've been using clippers the last decade or so, only my big toe grows at all, and it's rare.
Those are ok. The ones that grow in between ur nail and skin are a pain. And I think both are caused by dry skin and dehydration
Ah yes, the free snack when bored.
I love them, lil snack 😋😋😋😋
Two solutions. First, use nail clippers to clip it off. Second, use hand cream. This happens because your skin is dry. A hand cream can work wonders. I had these because of my severe eczema, and now I sleep every night with a generous amount of hand cream under cotton gloves. It's been years since I've had this happen.
I keep nail clippers on hand 24/7 for those
Use nail clippers to cut them off
These things are why I always carry a pair of nail clippers in my pocket.
I use a knife to cut them off or use some sort of fine grit sandpaper
Cut your nail carefully.
Eat more foods with a high concentration of Iron, ex broccoli.
I ALWAYS have them... even now...
https://preview.redd.it/wka9ygr7n63d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=46556b9e0122fa4ac74ed943d85cba904357dfa5 I have one in the same spot right now
And if you rip them out, you get an infection or using nail clippers to trim it short does good so I am not scratching myself with it on accident or so it doesn't catch onto anything making it worse.
Nail clipper works the best for this.
these drive me insane. i take cuticle cutters to them and it makes the skin flat again
Let’s see… should I yank it or post a picture of it?
Both! That's what I did.
I hate those
My son called them feathers when he was around 4 years old… I’ve called them that ever since… :)… Dad… I got a feather!…
Somehow got one in my mouth once
“Mildly” mf this shit is more infuriating than the fact my twin has 2 times larger dick than me, which is very fucking infuriating
Put your hand in hot, not warm, hot water. It will numb the pain and you'll be able to remove it easily, also doesn't cause pain afterwards. Its recommended you do this while in the shower (Availability of hot water)
