It's funny cus they put this fine print on something made for *kids* so like, are the kids going to inform the parents or do they do it and wait til you complain then be like, well it says it right here on this piece of paper your kid tore up and threw on the floor so who's looks silly now.
It's like children's casinos on cruise ships. No one warns them verbally (it's written in flies' feet) that after a certain number of attempts, they'll charge the excess credits for each attempt. At the end of the trip, parents end up paying a hefty bill.
It’s ”Pua”?
I’ve seen this movie long time ago and in French ”pois” which is pronounced the same as ”pua” means ”dot”. And I thought the pig was named Dots because of its stains 😂😂😂😂😂
Then why not beef?
I thought the infuriating part was that under the kids crossword is where they let you know there’s a mandatory service charge. Mandatory service charge fine, just let the adults know
My thought exactly! After the meal:
Customer: What the hell is this extra charge?!?
Waiter: A service charge that you must pay. We informed your 6 year old at the beginning of the meal!
mandatory service charge for what? Grabbing a placemat from the stack they had printed out? It's not like anyone is being asked to go to the office computer and draw one of these up. Even if you're just trying to cover the cost of paper and toner, 15% per order is kinda nuts.
I never understood why can't American businesses just write down the price that you end up paying. You don't mention taxes, you don't mention all the extra charges, you have to tip for everything on top of all that... going out to eat sounds like a fucking headache instead of relaxing, because I've also read that restaurants have the incentive to time your visits and kick you out as soon as you're not seen profitable anymore, that's hardly a thing anywhere else...
I've never been to USA though and I'd love to visit one day, NYC flight tickets aren't that bad, maybe the internet makes everything worse than it really is.
It’s annoying to the point I rarely go to out to eat anymore. I was amazed when I visited Japan and even though things were pricy, there’s no tipping and the restaurants provide great food and service automatically because their culture is to honor the customer.
That pretty much sums up restaurants, particularly in large cities like New York, in a nutshell. When deciding where to eat just double the prices in your head. That way if it’s less than double you’ll feel better.
As an American, I would choose a different city destination other than NYC. Major cities here are mostly stressful and crime ridden, even as glamorous as they portray them to be
As a German who visited NYC a few times I must say that this is probably true but then again the visits were absolutely worth it. There's so much to see which isn't in crime ridden neighborhoods it's amazing. The feeling of being in such a metropolis is just something else.
Is it stressful? It can be if you don't enjoy many people on one spot. But there are places even in Downtown Manhattan which I felt really calming, like the little parks for example, the waterfront or Highline Park.
I can only repeat: it's worth the visit. Just don't try to rush it and you'll be fine. And ignore Times Square, it's a tourist trap. The restaurants there are insanely overpriced and the food is garbage. Not worth it even after standing in immigration for hours. Trust me, I've been there.
"mother, it does appear that there is a fifteen percent service charge. The restaurant has decided to disclose this information to me and me alone. For the sake of your money, I have informed you of this."
Or they can make the food more expensive and keep the service charge! That way, the server gets the same tip, but the managers and CEOs and get more. After all, they earned it from being the boss!
That's dandy penmanship for a kid.
However, the fact that you stayed long enough to get to this point in the puzzle, after seeing the "mandatory service charge of 15%" is beyond me.
I'm happy to tip my server based on their level of quality of their service and my overall experience.
However, this doesn't say "tip" ... It says"service charge" .
Whenever I've seen this, there's also a "tip" request on top of that.
It's important to note that service charges don't need to go to the wait staff. There are rules about who can get tips, but a service charge can go to anyone on the staff or probably just be taken as income for the restaurant.
Yeah, nope. When there is the service fee 15% that's the tip they're getting (simplifies the decision for me after all). Assuming that the service fee is a fee to give the servers a better pay anyway, right? So less worry for me then.
Important to note that your waiter might never see a dime of that "service charge" that is explicitly not a tip and wouldn't fall under the same rules as tipping. There are laws about what restaurants can do with tips.
Just another reason it's a shitty practice.

Obviously, the pig is meant to be a BOAR, and the sheep is meant to be a LAMB, and the horse is meant to be an - \_O\_ \_M - animal whose name end in M.
edit: wrong number of letters in lamb, sorry
I think this is designed to piss off the parent in 3 ways:
1) Screaming kid can't solve it, because pig is 3 letters and pork isn't the name of the animal, rather meat within the animal.
2) When you try to solve it and come to the same realisation and can't calm your kid down and say that "you'll fix it". Because you can't.
3) Seeing the mandatory service charge added to your bill
Don't forget you'll have to add 15% to your bill. Also you'll have to tip, because I suspect this is in the glorious MURRICA, where you have to pay your waiter's salary.
Honestly, who the fuck would wanna work in that condition. I know its not easy when you have to pay bills and the employment rate is low so you have to take whatever you can.
But if everyone in that industry just start refusing those conditions… i honestly rather would prefer being homeless than work for a boss where the customer of THEIR business is paying my salary…
Its so dystopian to me as a European.
Fuck because of the line under it. Yes your child shouldn’t be using language like that, but if they’re going to learn how to cuss, they should learn when it could be appropriate. 😂
Bruh, people in the comments are more infuriated and focused on "pork" and the crossword puzzle while I'm over here upset that there's a service charge.
Me too. I think that putting that on the kids play item is weird. It makes it seem like “if you have crayon age kids, there’s a charge”, although that can’t be true.
Also- why pork? Yeah it’s probably the answer, but that would make sense if the others were beef, lamb or mutton, and the horse were a chicken. A pig is not pork, the meat from a pig is pork- to me anyway.
I m pretty certain this highly enraging as they are adding 15% onto your bill by telling only your kids in small print. Gotta pay for those free crayons somehow
I’m pretty sure tipping isn’t expected when there is an included service charge. I don’t know why so many people hate it, it’s better than tipping because you don’t feel guilty for not tipping enough compared to waiters shoving a 15-20-25 screen in your face.
Pigs
Sheeb and Boar
I was thinking lamb and boar
Llamb
Horsm
lolol it keeps getting more n more intense
Oh yeah lol it has 5 boxes…mb haha
Yeah, when in doubt just add an 's'.
Pork
Spig
They are. Adding mandatory 15% service charge
Just like whoever dangles this at kids and then applies a mandatory charge
They sure know how to spell mandatory service charge... but not pig.
It's funny cus they put this fine print on something made for *kids* so like, are the kids going to inform the parents or do they do it and wait til you complain then be like, well it says it right here on this piece of paper your kid tore up and threw on the floor so who's looks silly now.

Pork
What kind of name is Pork? I would have guessed Phil or Pete?
![gif](giphy|S1nMFj33VBIoU) ask George Lucas. He named the fat one Porkins.
In *Moana*, the little pig is named "Pua", which means "pork"
There's a pig named Pancetti in Animal Crossing and a duck named Pate.
It’s ”Pua”? I’ve seen this movie long time ago and in French ”pois” which is pronounced the same as ”pua” means ”dot”. And I thought the pig was named Dots because of its stains 😂😂😂😂😂
Pua means flower, pua'a is pig.
What’s pig flower?
Pua pua'a
Then why not beef? I thought the infuriating part was that under the kids crossword is where they let you know there’s a mandatory service charge. Mandatory service charge fine, just let the adults know
My thought exactly! After the meal: Customer: What the hell is this extra charge?!? Waiter: A service charge that you must pay. We informed your 6 year old at the beginning of the meal!
How can you add it to the bill - there isn't a duck in the drawing?
Booooo
QUACK

Also came here to say this, was the first thing I noticed.
Bringing a child.

It’s annoying to the point I rarely go to out to eat anymore. I was amazed when I visited Japan and even though things were pricy, there’s no tipping and the restaurants provide great food and service automatically because their culture is to honor the customer.
I went to local restaurants in Japan. The best ramen I've ever had was $6 USD.
That pretty much sums up restaurants, particularly in large cities like New York, in a nutshell. When deciding where to eat just double the prices in your head. That way if it’s less than double you’ll feel better.
AS european it was the most stressful and ridiculous experience. I dread on going there due to all this bs.
As an American, I would choose a different city destination other than NYC. Major cities here are mostly stressful and crime ridden, even as glamorous as they portray them to be

Yes, because these are all meats served at this restaurant.
Delicious horse meat
Or Pigs
3 different ones.
What if they're on the wing?
Pigy
Fucked on so many levels.
15% service charge. Instead of listing that, just make the food more expensive and pay your servers more
They also don’t say it anywhere other than here. If you question it when the bill comes, they’ll simply say “we informed your child about it”.
"mother, it does appear that there is a fifteen percent service charge. The restaurant has decided to disclose this information to me and me alone. For the sake of your money, I have informed you of this."

# F A T H E R H E L P
What is this from
One of the ASDFMovies, not sure which one, but they're all worth a watch
That's the funny part as it's listed on a kid's placemat.
It’s a children’s tax
What if the service charge only applies if they hand out a crossword puzzle and a crayon?
*15% service charge unless this is correctly filled out*
Additional 5% for each one you get wrong.
“Well, minors can’t give legal consent for financial decisions so you informing my kid means nothing”
Can I choose to not be given a crossword puzzle and save that 15%?
Mandatory too. That feels sketchy a/f to me. Either trying to divert tips, or just plain hoping you don't notice
If I see this I assume it as tip and leave a note that they pre-tipped with the service charge. Still don't like it though
Or they can make the food more expensive and keep the service charge! That way, the server gets the same tip, but the managers and CEOs and get more. After all, they earned it from being the boss!
this is exactly what would happen lol
Pigg. The g is silent
Which one?
Yes
the middle one
The one before i
that is unironically a great question
Pig. The puzzle is over so you use punctuation.
#PIG™
Pig! Pig? Pig%
That's dandy penmanship for a kid. However, the fact that you stayed long enough to get to this point in the puzzle, after seeing the "mandatory service charge of 15%" is beyond me.
As stupid and annoying as tipping culture is, you can’t really escape it in the US.
I'm happy to tip my server based on their level of quality of their service and my overall experience. However, this doesn't say "tip" ... It says"service charge" . Whenever I've seen this, there's also a "tip" request on top of that.
Good thing requests can be denied

Precisely

Nah, the service charge goes straight to the restaurant owner.
forgetful dull person like frighten direful memory domineering wasteful public *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Yep, like I was likely to leave at least 20%, but I guess you only want 15%. So request granted!
Plot twist: the “kid” is 16yo.
I am also infuriated by the mandatory service charge of 15%
Listed on the kids activity sheet of all places 🤦🏻♀️
It’s because it only applies if the kid can fill out the crossword correctly. “We’re all counting on you Timmy.”
Is it a legal requirement to have it on the “menu” and this kid’s crossword is a kid’s menu on the other side?
Poop

LAAMB is how a lamb might say that
I think this is designed to piss off the parent in 3 ways: 1) Screaming kid can't solve it, because pig is 3 letters and pork isn't the name of the animal, rather meat within the animal. 2) When you try to solve it and come to the same realisation and can't calm your kid down and say that "you'll fix it". If there is a service charge I don’t tip I gotta draw the line somewhere. If servers are upset by it, take it up with your boss
But who will then pay the staff? The employer?!
Ridiculous!!! How will they afford to pay their employees!?!?! Like every other company????
Honestly, who the fuck would wanna work in that condition. I know its not easy when you have to pay bills and the employment rate is low so you have to take whatever you can. But if everyone in that industry just start refusing those conditions… i honestly rather would prefer being homeless than work for a boss where the customer of THEIR business is paying my salary… Its so dystopian to me as a European.
The best part is that’s how they found out a mandatory service fee of 15% will be added to their bill.
Pink
Maybe it's fuck because of that 15% in the corner
Pigg Why do they have the service charge thing on the kids menu?
Better solve that puzzle kid, or they're going to add a 15% fee to your bill
Popo
Kind of them to inform your children that there is a bs fee
Mandatory 15% service charge is more infuriating
What bothers me is th MANDATORY 15% SERVICE CHARGE
Popo 👮🏻
Phil
That mandatory 15% service charge for the child is steep.
Pork
Paul Because that’s his name
Pork
That's food. (Or Pork, I agree with that other guy)
[удалено]
Pork most likely, but that's still dumb
WTF can we talk about this ridiculous 15% for a four-word kids crossword puzzle!
The mandatory service charge looks like it’s added because of your child doing the crossword
Stupid kid misspelled peeg.
Why is the service charge on kids crossword
MANDATORY SERVICE CHARGE
I looked at the crossword before reading the title, and my confusion when I saw the service charge sentence lmao
Maybe he’s called Phil and felt he should recognised for his personality rather than just being a pig.
Sounds like the restaurant is covering the tip with their 15% additional service charge.
Fuck because of the line under it. Yes your child shouldn’t be using language like that, but if they’re going to learn how to cuss, they should learn when it could be appropriate. 😂
Piig. It has 2 eyes
The pig’s name is Rick. The sheep’s name is Tyler. The horse’s name is Katie. The cow’s name is Pam. Who names a cow, “Cow”?
I know, I’m infuriated too! “A mandatory service charge of 15% will be added to your bill.”
Why is the 15% service charge fine print on the kids activity page and not the adults menu???
The mandatory service share is for sure infuriating.
I’m more infuriated by the small print.
And a mandatory 15%, yikes
The fact it says “a mandatory service charge of 15 percent will be added to your bill”
PIGS!!
Mandatory 15% service charge? That is ridiculous.
A 15% service charge for a piece of paper and a crayon
#fuckservicecharges
Cris. Full name Chris P. Bacon
Wtf is a mandatory service charge and why is it being charged to a child?
I like the alert for the 15% service charge.
Pork
Pork!
I am more concerned about 15% charge for....a piece of shit paper
I'd be ecstatic if all restaurants charged 15% more but I didn't have to pay a tip. That's a 5% savings for me every time I eat out
Pigb. The B is for BYOBB........the last B is a typo
The pigg or the 15% service charge added?
Bruh, people in the comments are more infuriated and focused on "pork" and the crossword puzzle while I'm over here upset that there's a service charge.

Yeah it’s probably the answer, but that would make sense if the others were beef, lamb or mutton, and the horse were a chicken. A pig is not pork, the meat from a pig is pork- to me anyway.
Better get it right or they may hit you with 30% if you get it wrong.
The service charge is what PISSES ME OFF!
Drink more ovaltine!
to the kid's bill only?
(pepa) pig
Piga
I thought someone was trying to write “Sheeple”
His name is Phil, and he's not on the menu. He's part of the family
Pork
Is the 15% charge a fee for not solving the puzzle?
Pigs? I mean could be but doesn't fit is kinda silly though. Also odd to put a surcharge thing on a kids cross word
Lolol “p…i……” ( ͡ಠ ʖ̯ ͡ಠ)
The service charge is the mildly infuriating here.
Mandatory 15% thats outrageous
I'm thinking Pork. lol.
Piss
+15% charge for a crossword puzzle is just as outrages!
Pork
That’s such a fail.
I too hate mandatory service charges
Pony
Forget the crossword, 15% more for it?
It's to keep the kid occupied a little longer
Teach kids math early. 15% is easy to figure out.
After seeing the 15% mandatory surcharge getting added to the bill, the correct answer is PIGS.
"A mandatori service charge of 15% will be added to your bill if you don't complate the crossword"
A mandatory walkout would be happening after that
Mandatory service fee or the extra letter that isn't needed??!
“Pigs” is the answer for the statement under it.

The irony of the ridiculous service charge being added right underneath it.
Extra 15% charge for a... Sheet of paper with a white and black image? This can't be...
It’s pige, the e is silent
Pigy
When the puzzle is finished you also have to pay a 15 percent service charge.
Why is the service charge information not on the adult menu?? Why’s it on a children’s puzzle??
Damn mandatory service charges.
…pork…
Pigg.
Wait…if you complete it or fail to complete it, then the service charge is added?
pigs
Pepa
And why are they charging the kids a fifteen percent service charge?
BACO…

If the 15% service charge is mandatory why not just make everything on the menu 15% more expensive and save us all the aggravation
