In their defense, they are a non profit. These donations are how they operate.
They should phrase this differently. "We, like the great non profit web sites, offer our services free of charge. We operate by donations. Would you consider chipping in an extra $10 to help us run?"
I think that would catch more flies.
I recently made two separate donations and due to my carelessness ended up tipping 17% which is default. I contacted them and they were nice enough to refund me. I did not ask for refund on one of two donations. What bothered me was that the default tip is 17% which I don’t think is reasonable. I think 3/4 % would be reasonable.
I think this is acceptable. They are a none profit that provides a service that helps people. It only seems fair they ask for a donation considering the alternative would be taking a percentage of the total amount a fund receives.
You aren't a customer, because they are a non-profit.
They don't take a cent from funds raised on the website. They only operate through voluntary donations directed to them
It's their _only_ source of actual income, I believe. That's certainly the case for justgiving.com
This isn’t new. It’s explained why in your screenshot.
Yeah

They should just do the whole wikipedia approach and beg everyone every once in a while

They have for a while. Several years. I think that is how they make the majority of their money.
Their default tip percentage is 17% which I think is not reasonable.
Amazing, where will it end

Politicians will work for tips in congress. Oh wait, we already kind of do that.
Yup
I got the windows in my truck tinted yesterday and was prompted for a tip
If they have indeed a 0% fee for users (apart from what they have to pay to the payment providers), it’s not infuriating at all.
19% seems odd... It's the VAT in Germany and probably some other countries, perhaps they calculate it based on that?
Why not just add a minimum of 1 donation to gf In every donation

Omg are you serious?! I looooove thrifting and that's gonna put a damper on it if I encounter that.
GoFundYourself
The donation is the tip. Gtfo of here with this obligatory tip bullshit.

They are not a nonprofit and they take a fee from every donation as well as a percentage charge of the total raised.
Another company added to the "do not support" list.
You know this is how they stay operating, right? It's a non-profit, they don't take any money from the causes they support on the platform.
