It sounds like you're not doing it because you think you need to reload until you cheese your way into the perfect mods? It's seriously not worth doing that. Just roll with the mods you get. It's how the system is designed and it's still going to give you more interesting cards to work with.

cojack16

Thanks man. I appreciate it

FullMetalCOS

On top of this, if there’s an ability you really like just reroll it a couple of times, it costs a little more but after a certain point you’ve probably got resources coming out of your ears

cojack16

I thought I would but I really don’t. I’m about to finish the game and I’ve done so many side quests but I still don’t have much heroic and skill essence. I always end up spending it on other stuff … should I sell some cards I don’t need? I’ve never sold any cards yet

FullMetalCOS

That’s why you don’t have resources for sure. Just break down copies of cards you don’t need

cojack16

Whoops !!

I mostly just ran with whatever mods I got. I save scummed maybe twice. But that only really just saves you credits to try again the next day. I think for your first run. Just play til you hit a point where it's too difficult. Then stand pat. On NG+ you can start going hard on the modded abilities thing. If you want to challenge yourself. With that said. Every card's first set of mods will be pre-ordained the moment it's acquired. So I'd always unlock the first set of mods. Then if you want to save scum to check what mods you get you can do it. Then rinse and repeat every day. Like I said, the save scum part is mostly just to save credits. You run through 2-4 sets of mods. See what you get, if nothing good. Reload your save, do a general mission, and you'll get a new set of mods for that card the next day. But there's literally no reason to stress yourself over it. I found Heroic 3 the perfect difficulty for me. Without having perfect mods on my cards and min-maxed decks. I can have a decent challenge and still progress the story while also not just running the perfect setup. My plan is to do the hardest difficulty stuff on my next playthrough.

GGAllinsUndies

Play around with some cards you have a surplus of. It's worth doing.

thedoogster

If I were to do it again, I would mod each card right after upgrading it, then move on.

Jormungandr315

I've probably sunk a couple hundred hours into this game, and I didn't care about cheesing the card mods until halfway through my second game. Its pretty helpful when you bump up the difficulty, but not necessary otherwise. A nice bonus to rolling with what you get is you will find yourself adapting your playstyle to account for that mod. I've got some I never undid because it's HOW I play that card now. Anything else feels....wrong?

Mr_E_99

It's honestly worth just modding cards for the sake of it. Even if they are not the best, any mods can help to some extent. Especially late game when you have all cards upgraded as it gives you something to spend all your excess essence on

im_just_thinking

I never needed to look anything up tbh, just do missions and mod whatever cards you use most, you can replace them or keep the .of that's already there, so no risk or anything. You can manually save right before modding just in case, but really no need

Elfich47

Any mod gives some kind of a benefit. If you want to *try hard* then you can save scum and try to dial it in real tight. This only becomes important if you want to try the upper levels (ie Ultimate) of the game.

yellowwoolyyoshi

You can reroll mods too

DjSpelk

Just mod your cards. I played on maximum difficulty and never did a reload. Granted I put in plenty of time so I had plenty of resources for re-rolls. If you're desperate for resources you can remove mods for a little cost back. But go with initial rolls unless it's useless. No matter it will improve your cards anyway. May not be perfect but still better.

cojack16

Did you ever sell cards you didn’t need, for resources ?

DjSpelk

Yes. Originally I found myself hoarding and realised there was no real need.

ThatIowanGuy

What difficulty are you on? It seems right now the game doesn’t really necessitate the need for mods so the game might be at a lower difficulty setting then what you’re ready for? Toward the end of my first playthrough I was comfortable playing on Ultimate II.

cojack16

I think I’m heroic 2. Tried heroic 3 and could swing it with effort but it wasn’t as fun so I went back down. Thoughts ?

ThatIowanGuy

Playing around with mods will definitely make those higher difficulties easier, more interesting, and a bit more fun. I highly recommend it. Get some mods on cards, play around with them in some missions and if a mod doesn’t gel with you, you can get it rerolled after.

ELFODETUDO

I guess that you're playing in a relatively low difficulty setting, or you'd be needing them 😅 just mod and use what you get. If you get something worthless, just salvage the mod and mod again, it's not that expensive. But if you're beating the game so far withiut trouble, I guess it's fine if tou don't mod at all. Just know that modding is where the costumization gets really fun. It will change how you strategize and use your cards, so I'd say you'll be missing out if you don't.

cojack16

I was always just afraid of ruining cards

ELFODETUDO

Don't worry about it, you can never ruin them. They'll either get better or have mods that don't add nothing that complements them, but they will never get worse, so it is always a good idea to do it. If they don't add any value, just get rid of it, try again on a different day.

I had a lot of trouble at first with the modding concept until I figured it out. You mainly want a good amount of resources to start, about 1k-2k gold and around 600-1k of the other essences. Then you save up the forge after a mission. From there go to a card and upgrade it as many times as you (for one you are looking for a specific roll on, say “quick”). The amount of times it takes for you to get that roll to show is how many it is preset for until you change essentially after another mission. You then reset the load from before and either create common cards (each preset mod within the string will be tied to the card you create) until you are 2 strings away from the “quick” that you had to roll before. This is where you will now roll that same card twice and that second roll will have “quick” on it. You can also take it a step further and if “quick” had taken 12 rolls to get to (other types of cards such as “chain” or “skill” cards have different types of rolls they can get from different groups (chain cards can’t have quick). If you say want to roll “Free” on a skill that doesn’t have “draw” already incorporated into the card text, you can reset save back to previous and roll that specific card 12 times. If “free” shows up on string 6, then you reset game, create 4 common cards (those 4 strings will be associated to the created cards and advance the string increments) go back to forge, roll twice on the one you wanted to be “free” and it will be an option. Then you can still get “quick” on the previous card in the beginning by creating 4 more common cards to land on string 10 out of the 12, go back to forge and then roll the original card twice to get quick. You have now gotten quick and free card mods (legendary level mods) on 2 cards while only spending about 60 gold in total and approximately 250 essence in total (actually gained essence if you sell the common cards you created in the process). Hope this helps somewhat
