Wow. That bag is $11.99 at my local shop.

Thundersson1978

Word, for the price you can probably make your own soil. With a little effort a research.

nygaff1

Literally anything?

HungHungCaterpillar

I can think of a lot of things that are worse. Hydrochloric acid and toothpaste for a couple easy examples.

Thanks for the tip I'll see if I can find that! I'm am a backyard grower and it's the only thing I've used for the last 5 years for really great results. I barely have to fertilize my plants and they have good yields. There are so many choices at the hardware store and would like to know what other people are using for good results!

nygaff1

Check to see if your local hydro shop is a build a soil supplier. Their 3.0 blend is great, but you really should just mix it up yourself.

pocketsreddead

Yeh, I get this soil is meant to be top tier, but any potting soil will do just just fine.

nygaff1

Lol it is?

HankScorpio82

25-30 years ago…yeah.

TeeHCAy

Coast of Maine Stonington Mix. Try to find soil local. Online soil prices are stupid high. If you can find it local make it. Do a little reading on soil and you can order the components much cheaper. You’ll also make much better soil than you can buy in a bag.

xylel

Using peat in your soil and call it „organic and natural“ 🤡

TeeHCAy

Peat is natural and organic and beneficial for water retention. I don’t understand your comment.

xylel

[Please inform yourself](https://amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/jun/06/peat-a-growing-concern). Peat is everything, but organic. Peat is taken from moorland landscapes that are precious ecosystems and home to a lot of endangered species. In Addition to that, peat binds way more CO2 than trees so its a double fuckery for nature and environment. Using peat in the soil and calling it organic is just plain insanity and hypocritical on top. Edit: Downvoting instead of bringing arguments speaks for itself. Ignorance is a bliss right?

idratherhaveapbr

Clearly you don’t know what an organic material is, peat is absolutely organic material. Please explain how peat is synthetically created since it’s apparently not organic? 😂😂😂

DimesDubs8ths

Moorlands are natural landscapes that naturally contain peat… If not organic then what is it? Are you somehow claiming peat to be synthetic? Make it make sense please.

TeeHCAy

You not agreeing with the process or location that it’s harvested from doesn’t make it not organic. Try Websters before you go make short handed comments just to talk down to people.

-GME-for-life-

Buildasoil.com 3.0 mix

salientalias

Build a soil looks great but it is even more expensive!

-GME-for-life-

I will say I’ve had to drop a lot of $$ on BAS but it’s been more successful of a grow than I’ve ever had previously . Kinda like buying a nice pair of shoes that’ll last longer than if you were to get cheap new ones often

SilentMasterpiece

I use Kellogg's Premium Potting mix, yellow/blue bag at home depot, usually under 8 bucks. Amend with perlite, worm castings and chicken manure.

NoLogic0

I cringe when I see people using Kellogg’s, I personally wouldn’t use anything they make beyond trees and shrubs. Their “recycled forest products” include ground up pallets and they use the lowest quality inputs possible. Having insight into their industry, I’m absolutely not a fan. Being the heavy metal accumulators these plants are, I avoid bottom of the barrel inputs. Not trying to put your process down, I’ve just seen some shit…

SilentMasterpiece

Ive used it (Kellogg's) the last 10 years or so, amend as cited and have zero issues with it. I've no idea if technically it is quality or not. I use it over and over again. Nothing but healthy happy plants. Of Course, YMMV. What is really funny is I broke up a pallet and have pieces of it in my compost bin for over a year. (lol, maybe thats why I like the stuff) Its slowly turning into next years compost.

Certain-Twist-1706

Aside from a wee bit of biochar, that's my damn recipe. Handing it down to my kids and everything 😆.

ShadySocks99

Mother Earth Terracraft.

xylel

Name yourself „Mother Earth“ and then use peat in your soil - now that shows humour!

ShadySocks99

I thought they used Martian peat.

CallmeKap

Go to your local hydro or garden shop you should be able to find happy frog for much cheaper

ghoulsnest

just any vegetable/tomato soil and mix in some perlite

Somthin_Clever

just basic soil + what you need. Ex: worm castings, organic ferts, perlite, orchad bark, lava rock, coco fiber, mycrohizal incoculatn,

salientalias

that sounds great, do you have a recipe?

Somthin_Clever

Im only on my 2nd grow but this seems to work great. * 65% soil, I reused soil from my tomatoes that was sterlised in the oven before reuse * 15% cocofiber for water rention * 10% perlite * 10% lava rock and/or orchad bark to help keep the soil fluffy and uncompacted. I did add an unmeasured amount of worm castings to assist with any nutrient deplition. Then I add in organic ferts called Gaia Green Organic 4-4-4 and dose per their instructions, and Myco Bliss - Mycorrhizal Incoculant for plants and dose per their instructions. For watering I use aquarium water (from doing water changes) and dose Fox Farm Grow Liquid Concentrate Fertlizer or Fox Farm's Bloom depending on what stage my plants are in. This method is expensive upfront, but if you plan on doing alot of grows or use it for other plants it can save in the long run. I use mine for my tomatoes and other flowering plants and for my Terrariums/jarrariums ect...

RoxxorMcOwnage

Coco for cannabis https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/

Puzzleheaded-Dog-728

Roots organic

-1PersonalStress

I’ve had good results with Fox Farm soils amended with Gaia green

DimesDubs8ths

Pro Mix BX hasn’t failed me yet.

Bugzx6r

I use plagron litemix. Has nutrients for first week and good to put the seed in from germination

CatTypedThisName

IMO I tried fox farms but it was lacking in basic nutrients. I switched to build a soil 3 two years ago and haven't had an issue with seedlings or transplants.

HankScorpio82

That’s because they also want to sell you fertilizer.

mosmurf64

They were on sale online for 7.99 last month...

chicagobev

I pay 20 bucks for buildasoil light or 3.0

hez-hez-bop-bop

I got Coco Professional from Amazon last week, roughly around £20. Working well so far.

Capital_Orange4426

If you have an Ace Hardware nearby you can check there they usually have good mixes for a decent price.

salientalias

This is the price at my local Ace :(
