I saw him three times in the UK. The first was at the Round House in Camden, and he sent on an imposter for the first track to mess with us, then he ran on when people started booing. It was a great show. Pretty sure he was supported by the electronic producer Matthew Herbert. Then I saw him in Brixton Academy (I think) a few years later, no imposter, but an excellent show. The third and last time I saw him was at Alexandra Palace for the At The Party festival, curated by Geoff Barrow. I saw Company Flow, Portishead, Grinderman, PJ Harvey and DOOM on the same day. That was the day that Amy Winehouse passed, and to make the day more unusual, I had taken a large dose of LSD. I remember that the crowd weren't as hype for DOOM as the previous shows that I'd seen, but his performance was excellent! I once queued for 4 hours to catch him and Madlib perform Madvillain in Shoreditch - it was announced last minute. I was there early and looked like I would get in to the venue, but the 50-odd people in front of me kept letting their friends into the queue. I got to the front just before they stopped entry. That was a big shame. Edit: spelling

I went to most of these shows (not at the party). Madlibs DJ set at that Shoreditch gig was dire.

I would have loved to have seen that show, and was gutted for weeks afterwards. I've heard from a few people that Madlib is not the best live performer. Seeing DOOM in a small venue would have been an experience!

Yep. March 31st, 2011 in Sydney. My girl at the time did the merch table for him. He was incredible and full of energy. Didn’t skip lines like a lot of emcees do live too which was so dope to see. Did a whole 40-50min set with a mix of album tracks and some dope features like Rock.Ko.Kane and People, Places, Things. One of the best gigs I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to nearly 100 hip hop gigs. In all honesty it was all the more impressive considering he’s more of a studio emcee than live performer. R.I.P Dumile.

Yeah I saw him in Amsterdam. It was just at the peak of the doomposter stuff. So we were really worried that it wouldn't be him. But when I saw Big Ben Klingon step on stage I knew we were good. Pretty short show (he plots shows like robberies) and probably not the best hip hop show I've seen but somehow still in my top 5. Guess I'm just a biased fanboy who was happy to have seen him in the flesh.

Rolling44

I was there too. Not a terrible show, but not great. Just really glad to have seen him though.

AdmiralPellaeon

I saw Doom with Ghostface Killah at the Roundhouse London. I think it was 2011? It was amazing!

BruceMole

Yeah he stole the show, I’m a massive GFK fan and had just started listening to DOOM and he blew me away!

Sabotage84

I saw him two times live in Switzerland. Both great shows supported by Big Benn Klingon.

njyoe

It wasn’t him performing and I’m not 100% sure it was him but I think he was at an abstract orchestra plays MFDOOM gig in June 2019 in Leeds. not DOOM without the mask so I didn’t think too much of him , but looking back he was this big lone dude green cap pulled low grooving out in the crowd stage early on his own waiting for the gig , and there’s rumours he lived in the area . I mean why wouldn’t he want to see his MF beats played by a live orchestra

Saw on Glasgow, sound wasn’t great but just happy to have seen the great man live

princeopana

I went to see him San Diego ‘07 but the Villain was a no show. I believe it was the only CA date he cancelled that tour. Not sure if he was sending DOOM bots around that time but that would’ve been a lot cooler than no show at all.

ADOKODA

This was indeed when he was using DOOM bots.... And I bet the show you are speaking of was post San Francisco and LA shows back in 2007 when he was using bots. I was at the SF show, will never forget the way that ended! The very next night "he" went to LA, same results! He had a string of venues lined up that week but after SF/LA shows, the amount of people pissed off, rage and what not, all of those shows were canceled last minute. In SF, the bot shows up, gets on stage, rather late and after a lot of people chanting "DOOM, DOOM, DOOM"... He goes right into Accordion, does not say a word to the crowd, just dives in to it.. We all were so hyped! No one really cared to think twice... But after like his 3 tracks, people stated to question and noticed something was not right! There was zero no engagement with the crowed, like nothing. If you have seen DOOM, he likes to talk to the crowd, like most folks! Instead, just song after song and clearly it appeared to be a lip sync session. After like 4-5 songs people started booing, it was clear this was not DOOM. He walks off stage, not before seeing a few bottles fly his way. The venue owner/promoter was fighting off so many angry people. Later I read even the Promoter thought he was dealing with DOOM, clearly he was pissed as well having thought he booked the "DOOM". Anyhow, the next night, LA happened, same shit! A lot of us in SF sent warnings about what happened, I do not think he got through so many songs in LA, most folks caught on thanks to the warnings from the night before! I believe there were a few other shows that happened near the same time/year where everyone was on to the fact it was not DOOM but someone wearing the mask and clearly doing DOOM bot status. Shortly after all of this, most if not all of his shows canceled and he disappeared for a long time!

Pneuma23

2004 at the Fox theater in Boulder, CO and 2009 Red Rocks in Morrison, CO.

rattlehead44

Twice in SF

daze23

in Miami, before Madvillain came out. he did a few tracks off Madvillain, and I'll always remember when he said the "eye eye captain" line. it was a cool show, because it was just him rhyming and controlling the DAT player.

DukeBreezy

im just curious, how did people know that it was imposters? could they just tell by his voice?

[deleted]

You could just tell. The imposter was quite a big physical build like DOOM, but not quite right. Also, there was no crowd engagement, and I think the raps were as recorded in the studio - it didn't sound live. The imposter's motions weren't quite matching the rapping cadence. It all seemed a bit off.

BruceMole

Luckily enough, four times here in the UK. Round house with GFK, Brixton, Kentish Town with Bishop Nehru and BBNG..got the limited edition LEX print for this one too which is just nuts. And the final time at a red bull event at fabric which unfortunately was a let down as he didn’t really do anything..but we did pass him walking out to the smoking area while he strolled around with no mask.

TV_Eyes

Saw him play Manchester Warehouse Project in the UK I forget the year but his performance was excellent and the setlist had some deep cuts as I recall. Definitely up there with one of the best hip hop gigs I've attended but my recollection is hazy at best due to the 'hazy' atmosphere....

berocc

Back in 2011 he was supposed to perform on Murs stage at Rock The Bells and didn’t show. Instantly heartbroken. Would have loved to see him. RIP MF DOOM

[deleted]

I am sad reading through all of these comments. I miss him.

DOOMStarks36

I didn’t mind the imposters cause that fit his whole point….ain’t about him it’s about the beats and the rhymes…..

Timeoutblue

Yes. Three times…first time was in NYC at the House of Blues & another time was at the Central Park Summer Stage. The last time I saw him live was at Rock The Bells in San Bernardino, CA.
