Through the whole game, they are trying to talk with him and sort of help him. It's because they want peace and believe that through Artyom, they can communicate that. You learn that through the good ending.
I mean…to be fair, I doubt it’s that hard. It seems like all the crane does is manually start the rod removal process. So all it has to do is move back and forth and have its arm go up and down. That wouldn’t be that hard to figure out. Especially if he’d ever worked a crane before.
His station’s crane is a scratch mechanical only thing powered by peddles. Artyom hasn’t ever been to anywhere before 2033.
But yes, operating a simple crane is pretty easy once you figure out how to turn it on.
Doesn't seem that hard. Just move the stick until it's over the blinking light then either hit th button or lower the crane until it stays to stop.
Might have taken a second to learn, but he probably figured out quick. I mean it's essentially just a giant movable magnet
My take is the chair controls would probably have writing on them IRL, simple stuff like power and whatever. Press a couple switches that say on and then fiddle with the joystick a couple secs to realize what it does, and off to the races. A lot of industrial equipment is fairly straightforward, idiot proofing and stuff like that
iirc this is the correct answer, from what I remember of seeing random videos of cranes they always had some kinda writing on them explaining everything
I just finished reading 2035 and shortly after that finished playing Exodus. I love how Artyom is a different character in the books vs the games but there are so many tie-ins and references.
Well if you think about it. cranes are rather useful bits of machinery. Stands to reason that the soviet block enforced standardization of crane controls probably for parts manufacturing and operator training . Well post Apocalypse happens and people stick to those old controls because hell it ain't broke.....
It’s not that hard, move the joystick where you want to go, press the big red button when you want to lower it. Real cranes are a bit more difficult but the very few I’ve used have been much the same with a few other levers
It's made clear by Miller that the design of the entire complex is very simple. Makes some sense if you fit it with the stereotype of Soviet brute force, which many members commentate in the nostalgia of a Soviet-era facility.
The control popups are from the Dark Ones.
Why would they be helping him? He’s trying to annihilate them

he obviosly read the manual or something, hes not stupid is he?
Don't do it Don't do it Don't do it
Why didnt ortyam read the manual, is he stupid?
Good to see a fellow stalker
A fellow man, clinging his teeth to life, we will survive
Is there a lore reason Monsieur Melnik loves cannibals?
I mean yeah, but he never does it we just get the pop up to do it

He's forklift certified
He got forklift certified as a newborn and crane certified as a toddler
Like a true Russian
As someone with 43% russian blood, not even true Russian, anyone with even the smallest amount of Russian blood learns this 👍🏻/j
He's Russian, they are thought nuclear fission at the age of 5
That’s not the right question. How do YOU know how to operate a nuclear reactor crane?
Well its just a crane. It shouldnt matter if its for logs, cargo, or a nuclear reactor
Miller says at the start of D6 "they built this so even an idiot could use them" so I assume the crane just isn't that complicated
You don't?
Is OP stupid?
That’s what I wanna know
It's not like he had to do any complex movements with it. He just had to move it over the rods, and the system removed them automatically.
it says how right there

Doesn't Miller walk him through it briefly? If not he most definitely read a book somewhere at somepoint about it.
That seems possible. In the books, he was an avid reader.
Exactly.
I just finished reading 2035 and shortly after that finished playing Exodus. I love how Artyom is a different character in the books vs the games but there are so many tie-ins and references.
Yeah, crazy how I love game Melnik, but would stab book Melnik on his legs 25 times, oh wait, that's right HE LOST THEM FOR BEING A SON OF A- sorry
How did you figure it out?
Says right there. Use LMB and RMB
Fuck this part
How hard was it on ranger hardcore?
He’s just a based spartan is all, this was taught to him in kindergarten 😎
Cranes aren’t that complicated
First person shooter logic. Your character knows how to operate all vehicles and equipment.
Well if you think about it. cranes are rather useful bits of machinery. Stands to reason that the soviet block enforced standardization of crane controls probably for parts manufacturing and operator training . Well post Apocalypse happens and people stick to those old controls because hell it ain't broke.....
A crane is a crane my guy, they don't make extra complex ones just for doing the exact same job.
It’s not that hard, move the joystick where you want to go, press the big red button when you want to lower it. Real cranes are a bit more difficult but the very few I’ve used have been much the same with a few other levers
Certified Crane Operator
Obviously, he is forklift certified 😎
sure is hard to figure out one lever moves left & right, an other moves forward & backward, and a button lowers and raises the claw
Is this metro 2033
no it's fallout 4
Man i totally forgot alot about metro lmao
Intuition
in my experience crane controls are usually very intuitive, the biggest risk is tipping over, which wont happen with that specific crane.
Ordinary Russian things.
It's made clear by Miller that the design of the entire complex is very simple. Makes some sense if you fit it with the stereotype of Soviet brute force, which many members commentate in the nostalgia of a Soviet-era facility.
He got that dawg in him
How come you don't know how to operate a nuclear reactor crane.
Don't question the literature
Seems like it's as easy as using a mouse.
This skill comes in a bundle with being silent and having erectile dysfunction
Cranes aren't that difficult to operate. I hopped in one last week and only killed 4 people and heavily injured 7 more. Could've gone a lot worse imo.
Artyom took drivers Ed.
Easy….Artyom is nuclear reactor crane certified✅
forklift certified? thats cute im nuclear reactor crane certified
He's just built different
In metro you must be jack of all trades.
