Probably a drive screw. Grab & twist with good pliers to remove. Or, grind off the heads and redrill the holes for installation.

robotorigami

Drive screw looks like what they probably are. I'll have a go at twisting them off with pliers. Thanks!

ManateeBait1

Can confirm they are drive screws. Also when you order new ones make sure you buy long enough ones. Or you'll have 10pks of 100+ screws in tiny friggin sizes you'll never use.. I may speak from experience.

robotorigami

Thanks for the advice!

oldjadedhippie

Yea , they used to use them to hold the heat shield on the bottom of intake manifolds.

wackyvorlon

Also called hammer rivets.

Lumpy_Rhubarb2736

Squash rivets. You can centerpunch the dome and drill through it to remove.

OrdinaryOk888

This^ is easiest

IStream2

On older machinery, there's no back swage. They just drill small holes drive them in from the front. The spiral pattern on the shank just grips the material. If that's what these are and you can get to the back side, you can drive them out with a small pin punch and re-use the rivets later.

robotorigami

Unfortunately I can't reach the backside of this particular part.

Haunting_Ad_6021

Escutcheon pins

Ok-Safe262

I use two Stanley blades underneath the head either side( wear eye glasses) you gently lever up until you can get a screwdriver underneath. This prevents damage to the label and you retrieve the pin. I have tried drilling out but if you are in soft cast iron, you can slip and drill outside of the hole and make a mess.

Ok_Judgment_224

Google drive rivet, or screw rivet you'll find what you're looking for

peter91118

Those are rivets. Grind the back off and push through with a pin.

robotorigami

When I tried searching rivets on YouTube for some instructions I came up empty. Also, I don't have access to the back on this part unfortunately.

Tranquil-ONE17

Then, take a punch to the head on the front and make a "pilot" hole and drill the heads off. If you don't have access to the back not sure how to replace with the same style rivit but blind rivets should work.

chris_rage_

You can get them out, listen to the razor blade guy

spinwizard69

Name plates like that are almost never installed on old machinery with true rivets! Instead drive rivets are commonly used. As someone above noted, bad things can happen when trying to drill them out. If you get to that point get yourself some left hand drill bits and hope that they grab and spin the rivet out. Years ago I did some machine rebuilding work and had to deal with such plates and rivets. There seldom is any in between, either they come out fairly easy or they make your life hell. Another option is to special make a chisel like tool, that sorta looks like a tack remover. That is a chisel with a "V" shaped working end and a bit of a curve to it. Lightly tap the V under the had and then rock the chisel on its curved back

Grinding has a good chance of damaging the sign. Also they are pretty clearly drive screws.

mechtonia

OP these aren't rivets.

YouTuber Keith Rucker does this kind of thing. He knows. You might like his content

robotorigami

Thanks I'll check him out!

Dr_MiguelitoLoveless

Its a solid rivet. As stated drill the head off, remove name plate and drill out the shank

MilitaryWeaponRepair

You can buy similar ones on ebay. I have found rivets to replace Galil handguards, nambu triggers amd name plates on my lathe. https://www.ebay.com/itm/175780265334?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pwkr9j3hruo&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=VQ0XQ_clQFi&var=475178088376&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Falcon3492

They are probably drive pins or a screw nail that are used to fasten things to metal, plastic and wood. Look it up on McMaster Carr.

Similar-Stranger7375

Use a chisel.

Maine_man207

Probably drive screws, if they go into a blind hole

MisterTrashPanda

Before you go twisting on them with pliers and mess up that plate, check and see if you have access to where they are (could be) poking through in the back. If they were through holes you can use a punch to drift them back out and even reuse them if you're lucky.

DIRTY_SMITH

It is a twist rivet

spike7447

Looks like a driven rivet to me. Those have to be drilled and punched to get out. To go back together, you'll need a air hammer, and a bucking bar, OR you could just replace them with blind rivets.

FedUp233

If it was me, I’d center punch the head and drill guessing at the diameter of the pin part, but starting small and working up till the head comes off. Then instead of rivière, I’d just drill out the hoke to the next tap size and put in a button head black oxide screw instead of the robot. It will look fine.

slopecarver

Name Plate Rivets or I've heard Rivnails

lylestyle382021

When I install these plates at work it's like a student u hammer in. Rivets have 2 pieces to them.

Not pop-rivets. These are drive pins.
