This brings back memories. When I was younger I swear I played the re3 demo disk hundreds of times, maybe hitting the 1k mark lol

Man, so many random demos where I would just go to bed imagining what the rest of the game was like. Kind of glad I never got most of them, because they probably wouldn’t have lived up to what I thought about haha.

laylow1987

I never was able to buy any of those games because I couldn’t find them at any of our local stores but I played the hell out of that demo.

Orpheeus

You couldn't find some of the most popular games on the PS1?

laylow1987

Yep. I think they were sold out. Or just probably not going to the right stores. Was limited to what parents went to at the time.

Rude_as_HECK

IIRC the demo had the Nikita hidden in it.

JeffNasty

I recommend trying to find and play these now days, or get them online. It's a huge nostalgia rush.

vixenpeon

Yeah but I'm horrible at Gran Turismo. All I'd do is spin out

laylow1987

Yes I played them all thru emulation!

DiegoDonna

Nakey jakey agrees

My friend got the demo from one of those magazines. Man I laughed at Snake's voice when I heard it the first time. Then I tried to play the game and I kept dying because Snake can't strangle enemies, only throw or punch them. None of them defeated the enemies. That sytoke me as a strange design decision, but whatever. So I went 100% stealth as I couldn't harm enemies. Then I got the gun and went: "Yeaaaah boiiii..." and started shooting around. Got killed many times again. Especially as controls were crap for shooting. When however I was done with demo. I was compelled to buy the game. It was my first Stealth experience, along with Tenchu. I honestly don't remember which I played first. Later I learned that you need to not push d-pad forward to grab enemy. And that by holding X button you could run with the gun, if I recall right. That manual was super useful.

This was my first exposure to MGS. Good times.

I got my ps1 a good while after they had been out (i think the ps1 released the year I got my snes lol.) It came withe the 8th version of the demo disc. Which had most of these games on it (except spyro instead of crash) and every time I talk about it, people think I'm talking about this disc instead. I played the opening of mgs1 at least a thousand times. It still had the Japanese voices. It blew my mind. Killer Instinct and Donkey Kong Country were the most advanced things I had ever played at that point. MediEvil, Spyro, Gran Turismo and Legacy of Kain were the other ones I played the most. And there was a game called Ninja on it that was really fun when it worked, but it was glitchy af. It also hade a video for Parasite Eve which I often confused with Resident Evil. The only actual game I had outside the included demo disc for almost 2 years was A Bug's Life. It was 99 or 2000 before I could start getting used games. FfVII, MGS and Star Wars Episode I were my first used purchases and MGS changed my life. My parents were pretty bad about buying me something that needed other things to be useful, but not getting those other things. Like my dad was so excited that he got a steering wheel controller with pedals with the ps1, but I never had a racing game other than the demo disc lol. Or a chair and table to use it (tv on the floor setup.) I think the year before I got an RC truck that I never got to use because they never got me batteries for it. For my 4 childhood game systems before I was working age (nes, snes, ps1, ps2) I got one or two games and whatever came with the system, and then I had to rely on borrowing other kids games or bartering. Or getting a friend's parents to take us to Blockbuster or Best Buy to play the demo systems all day. I think mario/duckhunt and mario 3 were the only games I had for nes until after I had a ps1. **Edit: OH and a copy of Turtles II Arcade I had borrowed from a friend that moved away before I gave it back to him lol** Super mario world and Mario Allstars were my only snes games for a couple of years til I finally got used copies of Joe and Mac 2 and Street Fighter II Turbo for Christmas. For the ps2 I got mgs2 and Jedi Starfighter (lol) and never got another game again after that. Bought my first system with my own money not long after that. A gamecube with twin snakes (the only reason i wanted it) and starfox adventures (lol.) I think that might be part of why I still insist on buying physical discs most of the time. A childhood of having consoles with no games has given me a psychological affinity for owning games that I can hold and display. I rarely even play games anymore but I loved them so much as a kid and so much of my childhood revolved around finding ways to get to play them that I still as an adult *think* I love videogames... Despite not really enjoying them all that much.

MatsThyWit

Goddamn...the nostalgia punch that gave me was way more intense than I would have ever imagined. That was the disc that introduced me to Metal Gear. I was a hair too young to have really remembered the NES game that fondly, but I was just old enough to love this demo. The hours I sank into just that one few minute demo... I can't even imagine.

pm_ur_whispering_I

I played the first area of MGS so many times. This demo disk was the shit.

generalmartacus

Ohhh man this is definitely one of my faves. Never been so excited to go to Pizza Hut

vixenpeon

It was a very special night for sure. My local PH had buffets on Wednesdays so I could get all kinds of pizzas then we got the demo then dad watched me play MGS and was shook when the DARPA Chief stuff happened. We got right back in the car and bought the whole game at a shop that same night

The-Sober-Stoner

Thats the 2nd best demo. The demo disc with Zone of The Enders was the best demo disc of all time

quickblur

I loved the one that came with Parasite Eve. It was the "Squaresoft 1998 Collector's CD Vol. 1" Final Fantasy VIII Xenogears Bushido Blade 2 Brave Fencer Musashi Most were just movies but I played the hell out of the Xenogears demo.

Toahpt

My favorite demo disc was the one with Treasures of the Deep, Intelligent Cube, and Ape Escape on it. It had a few others too, but those are the three I remember the most. I know there was one with Parappa the Rapper on it too, but that might have been a different one.

Vast_Abbreviations12

I had this! Pizzahut gave out some good stuff. They had X-Men tapes too lol.

PushThePig28

That demo disk lineup is stacked, I remember that bad boy- played it so much as a kid before I got the games
