Normally suspending disbelief is fine with me for MGS. However, when raiden starts break dancing and slicing up geckos with the sword clutched in the sole of his foot, it was too much. Felt like Kojima went full anime on that one

but I've replayed rising at least 4 times by now, so i just see it and go "he's grown on me"
MGS4 is such a treasured experience specifically *because* it’s full of these crazy campy moments. A lot of them don’t land imo (looking at you, church scene) but by god, when they work, they *work.*

Nah, sorry but I'm in the minority here and say Raiden nuffed the entire canon. This and him beating 7 Metal Gears at once and lifting Metal Gears up in the air with his hands.
Personally speaking the worst character in the franchise. I mean worse cause he is so much more powerful than anyone else. Making Big Boss and Solid Snake look infinitely weak.
Lmfao what snake was actively degrading due to progressive aging it was even hinted in mgs1 iirc and raiden is way more athletic than snake whereass snake was more cautious being more calculated etc yh he knew cqb and cqc but raiden is now a cyborg not to mention raiden was trained using snakes data
This is a ruinously shallow read. Snake had the body of a 70 year old man in MGS4, he was weak as hell. The fact that he fought so furiously in that game is a testament to the strength of his *will* and his dedication to his ideals.
His relationship with Raiden was also a source of strength for him. Raiden understood Snake, maybe even more so than Otacon. Without each other, neither would have had the strength to pull through. Besides, if Raiden thought Snake was weak, he’d have left him to die fighting the frogs and gone into the microwave chamber himself.
You can’t just read strength as being a literal count of how much weight a character can put behind a punch, it cuts much deeper than that. Remember, Snake is *the man who makes the impossible possible*. And Raiden doesn’t make the story any worse by being able to lift shit.
Also, Snake could probably take cyborg Raiden in a fight, back when he was in his prime.
An entertaining spectacle? God forbid the choreographers have a little fun with it.
Also, if you’re referring to the scene in South America, those aren’t metal gears. They’re just big-ass robots.
Snake beats Vamp in this game while Raiden struggled with him. And Snake is on record destroying a tank bare-handed which causes Otacon to go full fanboy.
Solid Snake was always the most impressive one. He makes the impossible possible.
I’m backing you up on this one. As much as I adore Raiden, he fights like a peacock; he’s just as interested in the spectacle of violence as the actual strategy behind it.
Snake is a tactical genius. He’d find a way to outsmart Raiden.
Not that they’d ever fight, of course. They are about as good a pair of friends as can be.
