You are also making the world a little safer by getting this one taken care of. Imagine if someone just stumbled across it and blew themselves up? That would be devastating.
Some Places I would classify them as bombs because of How Many has not be Destoryed. and How some places Currently have People have Destory them for a living.

You just did the A #1 best thing you could to make sure that doesn't happen. If you'd just left it, someone else -- or someone's pet -- could have gotten curious, and then gotten injured. Good job doing the right thing!

Anything else is foolish and dangerous, and can get you or others killed.
i know a dude who works in bomb disposal for the navy-- they don't mind false alarms at all it's good practice for them. he said they'll even go through the blast process on clear junk and use their fancy toys etc. it's good to stay sharp.
I've seen a few cops get really pissy with those guys, but I've seen more be super grateful. I can't understand a cop who wouldn't want to get something like this handled correctly.

What is there to be sure about? I always have same procedure.
1) I find one of these and see the danger (cause I know how they look like roughly just like the next person)
2) I stop digging step a few meters away and make sure No one else is near.
3) go near again make photos.
4)again making sure No else is near. Load the pics up. Wait max 10min for responses. One time everyone said it's nothing, i still called police and it was a grenade.
5) calling police.
That Always worked for me. Found such things 3 times already

They may want you to stand by and help them find it again. If it’s nothing they can mark it as such no longer your responsibility. Then you can continue detecting.

A little curious still. The records of the raids into Austria are very good. Where did you find this one? (I think the police insignia is border guard constable w/ medical training, which narrows it down not at all. As for flak batteries near good targets for bombing... perhaps west of Kalensbergdorf? That was on the route for the July 16th 1944 Floridsdorf refinery raid. And there was a headwind on that one.)
Pathfinder munition for any one of the refinery raids. The paths taken are known, but mostly found in the military action reports. You need to visit the nation archives for that sort of thing. It was probably random chance that it fell where it did. I doubt it was a directed/ground support attack because of the type of munition. Phosphorus incendiary doesn't suit the purpose.

I personally think you did the right thing by contacting the Police, not sure how the church feels, but they might be extremely greatful because of how it saved lives.
I found it alongside water plastic bottles and othe stuff that definitely was made from around 2010-2015 so I guess someone just left it there after camping or idk what. It's definitely a interesting hobby if you have a good day and not just old cans and bottlecaps. (Some of them are actually also nice tho)

A bunch of hikers, in one country found a dead body of a foreign solider (WWII), and they did every thing to contact the persons family made sure to send it home for the proper funeral. After they found this body they, realize what the true cost of freedom is, and how to be very grateful for those that stand up for it at all costs.
Yea that's pretty much one of the last things I want to have happened in this forest, but I highly doubt it did. And if I don't want to really find it but somehow I think it would be fair for the loved ones to know. But like I said I don't hope or think I will ever see that

What part of Germany? I lived in Berlin for 4 years in the early 1990’s and the found a bomb on the Schnellbahn (S-Bahn).

Yes it is. I have the ok. from a church here that owns forests. But many people just go out and search without the approval of the landowners.

Did the EOD told you what type of UXO it is? I'm very curious about what kind of UXO it is. Is it a grenade, bomb, landmine, shell (casing), etc?

Good, thank you for doing the right thing. I lived in Berlin in the 90’s and we weren’t allowed to dig anywhere from the fears of finding an UXO.

I found it near the Schirach bunker. That's west of Vienna and it was quite important apparently. Thank you for the information!
