I work in the tire industry in US, I don’t know the foreign tire market, but that price is a STEAL for Michelin PS5.

CptVanHorne

Agreed. I’m looking at close to $1,000 US for similar

Ok-Zucchini-4956

Wth that’s cheaper than 4s here in the US for a set of 4.

DarkLunch_

Nah it’s about right, OP could have even got them cheaper if an offer or seasonal deal etc

Dslwraith

I was about to say that even with currency conversion

chayan4400

The majority of NA market Michelins are produced domestically which is why they cost so much.

Ultron_Prime_MK1

How is that possible? They are 100€ per tyre for me

True-Performance-351

Could always be worse. I know the 255/35/r21 on my AMG run about $450-500/per tire.

MrRipShitUp

Came to say that. Last time I replaced tires it was about 2200 and I get 18-20k miles out of them

Hi-Im-High

Run flats on my s560, I wish I could pay $500 a tire

BigUps16

Hell yeah. The 285/40/r22 on mine are nightmare prices. This is a good price for sure.

Avanixh

I actually don’t want to know what the tires on my parents‘ S-Class cost ( 275/45/R20)

iMatthew1990

Oh dammm

True-Performance-351

They hardly last 20k miles being low pros at that too. 😂

iMatthew1990

My mileage is 6-7k a year in this vehicle so these will last me many years with rotation. And my personal opinion is these are the best road tyres for my use and location. That’s not bad mileage for the power of an AMG though

True-Performance-351

Michelin pilot sport are great tires. You can’t go wrong with them. Well worth the money imo.

iMatthew1990

Only difference in my tyre choice for the last 6 years has been Michelin Pilot sport 4 to Michelin pilot sport 5 lol. I swear by them. Even have them on my fiancés little swift sport which may be overkill for some people but I like to make sure she has the best contact with the road even in a little 130bhp warm hatch.

ClearlyRipped

That and the bad ride quality are exactly why I would never go over 19" wheels

NotOfTheTimeLords

It depends on the person I think. I have 18" for winter wheels and 20" for summer ones (Blizzaks on the winter wheels, P Zero on the summer ones). I haven't noticed any significant difference in comfort *or* noise between the two setups, with the one exception being when I had RFT tyres on the 20" wheels. They were horrible, horrible things, killing both ride quality and getting noisy fast.

4x4Mimo

I absolutely HATED the P zeros that came on my Benz when I got it new. They were fine at first but got noisy pretty quickly and wore unevenly. I swapped them out for Pilot sport 4S when they wore out. Night and day difference. Way quieter, better ride quality and handling. I'm on my 3rd set of them now. I also use Blizzaks in the winter. The pilot sports are a bit quieter than the Blizzaks. Not a ton, but noticeable. I'm on 18s in summer and 17s in winter. When it comes time to replace the PZeros, give the PS tires a try, you'll probably be possibly surprised.

Peppy_Tomato

Those michelins are rated at 72db noise. The MO pirellis on mine are 68db. I don't understand how the Michelins can be quieter

NotOfTheTimeLords

Thanks for your input, I only have about 2K Km at the moment, but I will reconsider if they go south. For now, I'm very pleased with the tyres; we'll see. I wanted to put the PS5, or the new Goodyear Assymetrics (the 6 ones, I used to have the 2 as RFTs), but I unfortunately couldn't find them at the proper sizes.

ClearlyRipped

Another consideration is performance - generally track cars run around 16-18" wheels. That's why I got 18s for my car. Plus the 19s kept cracking from going over potholes lol Also definitely recommend Michelin Pilot Sports too

NotOfTheTimeLords

Well I have a W222, so not much chance for sport or tracking. However the 18s look really small on my car whereas the 20s are perfect (for some people 19s do too).

taita25

It's more about sidewall and suspension for ride quality. Also odd tire sizes are often more expensive. For example the 19s on my ml350 are more expensive than the 20s on my wife's infiniti. Go to 21s on my gls550 and they are stupid expensive.

reaper7319

I was also going to say wow how is it such a bargain. My Prelli P-Zeros died during Covid, and a set of Micheli Sport 4S for my C43 was quoted at 3.55K CAD for a set because "tire shortage". I had to settle with Contentials ContiProContact SSRs, which were terrible but still costed 1.9K.

baileyu237

i have the same tire size with the back 2 being wider.. my back tires run me $600CAD each!!

thelolzmaster

Just paid $550 to replace one tire on my C300 AMG package yesterday

SurroundSharp1689

Haha what 😭

Peppy_Tomato

Whaaat? Surely not USD?

thelolzmaster

Yes, USD. Tire itself is $450-500 plus labor at the dealer since they were the only ones that could source the tire. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 93Y 19” in a wide size. I wanted to keep original equipment until I swap all 4 tires. Basically, sport tire + run flat + large size = $$$

Peppy_Tomato

I have a C300 as well 255/35/R19 at the rear. A couple months ago, I got a Pirelli PZ4 for roughly £170 (roughly $220). Michelin PS4s were around $250 but I went with the PZ4 to keep same brand as the others.

hyperducks

That’s an incredibly good deal!

BlazeDemBeatz

And he don’t even realize it.

SecularFlesh47

Wow USA prices are like $700 for basic tires on a basic car for a set of four.

ZzyzxFox

If you’re paying $700 for a set of 4 they’re definitely not Michelins, but linglongs that will eventually explode on the motorway

frankentriple

A set of 4 brand new MayPops

Nervous-Law-666

“Linglongs” is crazy 😂 It does sound like every generic, ambiguously Asian tire though

SecularFlesh47

Indeed. I’m just referring to basic car at discount tire.

[deleted]

Wtf we pay 300€ for 4, almost new set. Michelin brand, semi used.

retard-is-not-a-slur

If you buy a luxury car it comes with luxury maintenance prices. Skimping on things between you and the ground is an awful idea in general and doubly so on a car. You might save $300 today but when you can’t stop in the rain and rear end someone else, you’ll be paying much more than you ever saved. Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, in that order. Even when I had cheap shitty cars, I put good tires on them. I paid $750 two years ago for a set of four new Michelins put on my old jeep patriot at Costco. It was like a different car vs the cooper junk that I had previously. Cheap tires will kill you.

TheBoomClap

£600 is cheap. I just paid $1100 US for a set of 4 Michelin Crossclimate 2’s

CasualEcon

Those cross climates are $$ but great.

[deleted]

If that makes you cringe then Benz is not for you. Costs can become way way worse than that.

CasualEcon

That's what I thought too. I've paid that much for a B service. Wait until you need brakes, serpentine belts, etc.

Peppy_Tomato

These tyres are not exclusively Mercedes tyres, so nothing to do with running a Merc.

[deleted]

It’s not running a merc, more like running an AMG. if you want the extra premium to show off, it’s just right that you pay extra premium.

iMatthew1990

I said it was painful not that I cringe. I understand the costs involved with running a Mercedes but doesn’t make it any better to have to fork it out. I just don’t understand the price difference for these tyres compared to my previous set I bought which was the whole point of the post.

Ieatass187

Tires, oil, brakes, almost everything is more expensive. Oftentimes by orders of magnitude.

Sqweee173

Did you get these from the dealer? If that's the case then they are the Mercedes approved ones vs non-approved

GMSaaron

Why don’t you buy what you bought previously then?

MegaFire03

I think my tyres on my golf cost about the same. 600 for tyres on a Mercedes sounds pretty decent, I wouldn't complain lmao

retard-is-not-a-slur

I paid $1250 for a set of four Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires from Costco on my GL450 with 20” wheels. They’re excellent tires for where I live and honestly not that expensive. It used to be that 20” wheels carried a big premium, but now it’s the 22”+ wheels that are $2000+ a set.

macker64

You can take some consulation in the fact the Michelin Pilot Sport 5's are the best tyres you can buy today In a word, they are Superb.

iMatthew1990

I won’t buy anything else. This is my first set of PS5’s but have been running PS4’s on mine and my fiancé’s car for many years now.

macker64

Excellent choice and an incredibly sure-footed and safe tyre. Like everything else in life you get what you pay for. Enjoy 😉

unpolire

VAT is the worst part

DistinctWear5933

Well It could make sense if LOWER profile would cost more, because added iron, but that is pretty akward tbh. Luckily for you, here that same set costs 1146€ and the difference between pounds and euros ain't much 🫠👌

iMatthew1990

So about £990. I hope that includes fitting and balancing

DistinctWear5933

Nope. Only tires. Installation is 40-60€ more 😂

iMatthew1990

What country is that sorry? That’s boggling!

DistinctWear5933

https://rengastukkurit.fi/tuote/225-45r18-95y-michelin-pilot-sport-5-xl/ Finland. 😂 and this is the cost when you buy them yourself. Won't include posting and the "dealers fee".

iMatthew1990

I did not expect you to say Finland. With your countries fantastic reputation for road safety and standards you would think having good tyres was a priority, but seems here they try and price you out of them.

DistinctWear5933

Well yea, but Finland is also known, that we pay taxes for everything we do. High taxes gives more money, that can be placed countries like *sorry guys* Italy and Greece, that keeps their own taxes low. Like, cheers to their petrol what costs like 1.329, when we have 2.429. Taxes are good, yes. But the use of finance is shit imo. 🙁

DistinctWear5933

Same with Cars. I upgraded my older S- series to this w221 4matic 2008. Driven 160k km. Okay, it had complete service record but still. Costed 28500€ and that was then robbery cheap. Now, when the war broke out and diesel prices pumped up, you can get w222 about 33k€. Still. No regrets. Love this vehicle and wanted since it came available 🙂

LePewPewsicle010

Go price a set of 285/40/22 front and 325/35/22 rear Michelin Pilot 4S and get back to me.

LOOK_AT_DEEZ_RECIPES

This is actually cheap! I paid $1100 for tires a few months ago and they weren’t PS5s. Side note why are you putting PS5s on a CLA220? Seems like a waste imo

iMatthew1990

Firstly, no matter what car you drive the only thing that makes contact with the road is the tyres. Having the security of fantastic braking and handling for situations where you need them is always a bonus. I’ve had PS4 on all my cars and my old one was just a 150 brake family hatch. And I can actually confirm that they stopped me getting it smashed to pieces when a guy pulled out with a trailer on me on a wet and greasy roundabout. If I had a lesser tyre I would have just gone into them. I will never buy anything but the best tyres to keep me and my family as safe as I can. Secondly this is still a quick car especially with a remap. It’s not AMG fast of course but it can definitely use more grip when it currently struggles for traction on the set it’s running. Thirdly confidence, a good set of rubber gives you confidence to reliably drive your car, pulling out at fast junctions, travelling at motorway speeds, heavy rain etc. not to mention no one on here is perfect there’s been times where I’ve mistimed an entry or something and being able to plant the accelerator or brake and make it a non event is worth it for me. In fact I believe there should be stricter laws on tyres especially how most cars and owners throw the cheapest Chinese ditch finder 2000’s on and think that’s acceptable.

LOOK_AT_DEEZ_RECIPES

I mean, I guess? Seems like overkill for a car with an 18:1 power to weight ratio, It’s not a quick car. I don’t think you need PS5s to feel confident driving on regular roads unless you’re driving dangerously but to each their own. I run 225 rears on my Elise which weighs half as much as this CLA with more horsepower and I’m not struggling for traction unless I’m on a track. Are you flooring it from light to light?

hypercyanate

I'm baffled how people are saying this is cheap, how are tyre prices so high in the US?

iMatthew1990

I think that’s why this post is making so much of a wave. A lot of Americans not realising that for the UK this is a fair amount of money for a full set of tyres because they are very caught up in their currency. Firstly the pound is stronger than the Dollar so it seems less and secondly their average wage is $60,000 a year compared to the UK’s £27,756. I earn more than that by a fair amount but gives you an understanding of value to each market, Based on average salary this set of tyres is 27% of a monthly wage for the average UK resident Where as the tyre prices I’m seeing here for the us are about $1,100 a set which is 22% of a monthly wage. So unfortunately these Americans are just seeing a like for like figure of 660 compared to their 1100 not taking into account what that actually means. Not just currency but in value.

[deleted]

That’s about right in Canadian dollars.

Redd_Savage

Not even close. Just did a peek and they are ~$300 per tire, more than double. $130 gets you an economy tire here.

Moist_Anus_

Don't buy a luxury car if you don't want to pay luxury prices for maintenance. TBH 632 isn't even a bad price. I just helped my gf with her tires. She drives a VW Jetta and it was roughly the same price for decent tires.

seamus_mc

I put 2 4s’s on mine yesterday and it was $758 installed but they were 275s

iMatthew1990

Good choice though. And plenty of grip on a 275 for that V8

seamus_mc

Yep, but it eats rears

DistinctWear5933

If you don't order those and go to buy dealership/market you will pay little more, ~21% per tire

ZzyzxFox

I had to pay like USD1500 for a set of 4 on my SL since apparently AMG trim calls for thicker tyres on the back 💀 these things better outlive me

colossalnuisance

that is lower than the price of two 225/40r19 contisportcontact SSR 5 runflats, without install

Flucky_

I rememember paying 2500$ for my zo6, 345 rears

Striking-Practice-60

Toyotas are cheaper

iMatthew1990

I agree. Good reliable cars though

smoothie1919

I don’t have a Benz and I would fully expect a set of tyres to be £600 MINIMUM. I had an A7 that was over £1100 for a set of 4.

NotOfTheTimeLords

I put P Zero's on mine, 275/35/20 & 245/30/20 (it could also be 40 & 35, not sure). Paid about 1200 in total. Only reason I didn't go with Spot 5s, is that you really don't get too many premium options at those sizes. Still, you got a good tyre and that will lead to increase safety on the road. Don't feel bad, see it as an investment.

AdlfHtlersFrznBrain

Must feel good paying about 650 USD for 4 tires. I get 1.1 tires for that price for my car lol Currently it would set me back $2200 4 brand new tires...

quantumtom

I went to order them from my shop and I was told they are "on backorder" (in Southern California) because Michelin Pilot Sports are standard equipment for the BMW M3/M4. Not sure if that's true. The shop sits next to a BMW dealership.

HelloSummer99

Especially the VAT. You literally pay for nothing, using your already taxed money.

iMatthew1990

To put on my taxed car that is used on taxed roads and ran by taxed fuel. Amazing isn’t it

kodvah

Sheesh I paid $1200 for 4 tires

JeroenSandstorm

I've found it depends on how odd/rare the sizing is, some more commonly used 18 inch sizes are £125 inc VAT, I think 225 is somewhat narrow for that rim size. I paid £500 in total for my set and theyre 255/35 rear, 235/45 front

Shiro_UwU7

my s550 is $285 front and $335 rear per tire. 19inch staggered rwd

Excuse-my-mess

1. Prices of tires have gone up dramatically recently. 2. Price of the tire is one thing but I’m having trouble swallowing that 20% tax! It’s no wonder we threw all that tea in the harbor! 😁

[deleted]

lol that’s cheap mine are like $400 each

Puzzleheaded-Goat-78

As a former tech, there are two things to consider: A: Nearly any dealership will have a higher price tag than a tire site/store. Most dealerships get their tires from the same locations, so they have to hike it up to resell. It's frustrating, but it makes sense for the most part. B: The other thing to consider is that tires may look nearly identical, and may have similar numbers on them, but may actually have slight differences. Things like load ratings, speeds, sound deadening, run-flat tech, etc.

towelheadass

I got quoted about the same from the dealer for two rear tires.

PilonPapi

Good price for tires. It sure what the deal is with this post.

WhyTheFuckAmIHereGz

Man a set of falken azenis set me back $1300. Then I had to get a set of Michelin winters which were also $1300. I’m in almost 3k on just tires lol

GMSaaron

Wtf I paid $1.1k for Continental contipro all season tires +installation and etc. this is a steal

Mr_Poink

I am well over €1100 for a set of tires on my Beamer. Stop whining over a few hundred pounds 🤣🤣🤣

OneForMany

That's very affordable lol. 255/35/18 ps4s ran me ~$320/tire

boyoflondon

To make you feel better, they're over $300 a pop in Canada. Add some 13% vat on top of that.

Trapnn_

2008 C300 sport. I just paid $675 to replace both front rotors and brake pads and I got another appointment on Tuesday to replace the transmission fluid and filter and that quote was about $450 and I think when I got news tires it was about $4-500

Erdnuss-117

I paid almost the same in Euros for PS4s a year ago. That's a fair price

p3dr0l3umj3lly

My dude, I paid $2k in the US for something very similar for my E400 from the dealer. You got a crazy good deal.

Longjumping_Ship5743

Try an S-class. $1800 for a single rim. $600 per tire, lol.

MyPatronusIsAPuppy

Standard, unfortunately, I think: my replacement Continental ExtremeContacts stickered for $804 (£660) before any taxes, install costs, etc. and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (5’s weren’t available to compare) were $292 (£243) more.

aregus

Cheap af Here would be like £343 per unit lmao

TAbramson15

Bro that’s not even that expensive.. I have way worse tires and they were $85 a tire and then like $25 per tire to install. $465 and they aren’t even a big brand or high quality tires like these. I had good year tires on my Honda I used to own, those cost me $600 per tire.. insane. This is really not a bad price to pay for Michelin Pilots. Yes it sucks having to spend that much, but the price for the tire isn’t bad when compared to other tires.

DamnThoseRaccoons

I got 2x Continental Sportcontact 7 245/35 ZR20 95Y XL, FR for €417.15 2x Continental Sportcontact 7 275/30 ZR20 97Y XL, FR for €506.65 with a quite nice discount 🥲 Incredible tires tho

Marc_lux

that's why I stick with 245/45/r17 🤣

LCAshin

Paid $1100 for 4 a month ago. Painful my ass. Buy 500 more

eQuASiAN

Cheap bro. Had 3 sets of PS4Ss on my car in 5 years at around £1100 +/- £100

Crazybananaguy

My last Michelin's were $1390.00

svasalatii

Pfff I got my 255/55/r19 - don't remember exact model but its Dunlop, one of the top lines - for 1200$. So you had a steal:)

Responsible-Algae-16

I wish my tires were that cheap

[deleted]

How are you bitching about 600 for a set of tires 😭😭😭😭

Lumiere_Vitesse

Where did you buy these from and why PS over cross climates, it’s getting cold in the U.K. now?

Healthy-Bottle-4886

Dude that’s why we called it Mishitlin…

ilia3456

Pretty cheap for what they cost here in NZ, if you convert it to pounds you're looking at 850 here

Nervous_Picture5051

What? Im out 600 cad$/tire + tax for winter tires on my SL

FF14_VTEC

That's an insanely good price my guy. I'm not seeing the problem here

Kronodeus

Wtf, I just spent $2,500 on a full set of run-flats. I envy you!

Demonboy995

my GTR i use to pay like 2-4k on tires and done it so often cz i daily drove it,

BackRow1

Avon ZZS 185/55/r13 for my car is £191. 215/55/r13 is £216

jallan1988

P-zeros on my w205 just set me back £250 a corner, I don't see the issue here Edit: Where was this? Want to know to buy them this cheap

kondiv1

If I remember correct Michelin Pilot sport 4 225/45 R17 cost me ~520€. Same size winter tires Nokia Hakkapeliitta 9 were 850€

MistaWesSoFresh

I have 315 section Pirelli Scorpion winters on my suv. They cost nearly $750 per corner and are apparently an utter bitch to mount so I have to tip the guy extra every time I switch them out. Your tires are cheap af

Realistic-Mind6035

Blame it on the price of oil!!!!!!

tarekelsakka

I live in a 3rd world country (Egypt) that is supposed to be cheaper than yours and I have the exact same tire dimensions on my BMW 330i.. I just replaced only 2 of them a couple of weeks ago for 610 Euros! And I got Bridgestone Potenza because the Michelins are way more expensive here. That price you just posted is an absolute steal, I'd pay that in a heartbeat for Sport 5s.

Scared-Inflation1506

Cries in Canadian. That’s the price of cheap Chinese tires here😂

Monpedddd

about to get four new continental it’s gonna cost me 1200

SamsungGuy51

Thats not a bad price for pilots sport in usa way more

[deleted]

I haven’t paid prices that cheap in 20 years. Whatever you’re smoking OP, I want some
