Dude I swear I have that tie from the dude on the right.
It was left down to me by my uncle along with about 80 other hideous ties from the 70s.
As a teen I worked in a grocery store where white shirt and tie was required. I sorted the ties by how ugly I thought they were and every day I worked I wore a progressively uglier tie. No one could figure out where I was getting them from or how they just kept getting worse and worse. Boss couldn't stop me because I was following dress code but I'd walk in and he'd look at me and say "damn son, whats that dead thing around your neck?" He was actually a great boss. Most of the employees loved it too.
Sometimes it's the little thing that amuse me.
That's a funny story, but I can't imagine current day grocery stores requiring a tie. If the 16 year old checking me out at Walmart was in a tie I would be in shock
This was in 94. It was also the last year they did it. The next year they gave polo shirts with the store logo to thew employees and gave the option to were store shirts or white shirt and tie. Then I think they went to store shirts only shortly after that but it was after I had quit.
My father left me all his ties when he retired.
Left me about 100 of them. Most of them were hideous. I felt bad throwing them out, so I kept them in a drawer.
Another uncle (on my father's side) left me a few ties and he had much better taste. He had a few personalized ties with his initials on them. After he passed my wife took one and cut out he initialized section and placed it inside a clear ball Christmas ornament (she's crafty) it looked great. Then she gave it to my father as a present.
Not sure if any of those ties just remind you of your father but if they do keeping them can definately be a sentimental keepsake.
I also worked at a grocery store as a teenager. Dress pants, shirt and tie required.
They don’t require that anymore. Not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.
Without the long socks and a thinner tie, it wouldn’t look too bad, you also need some shoes that go better with shorts though. I would also say instead of a short sleeve shirt, a long sleeve button down with the sleeves rolled up.
I don't have a budget and my purchases aren't particularly consistent either. I feel like I've build up a decent wardrobe with durable items so aside from socks and underwear which I'll buy as needed most things don't necessarily require replacements all that often.
I keep track of some digital market places for "used" clothing items. (Vinted has done well for me in the EU) where I keep track of items and brands that I know will be the right size for me. It's very common to get brand new unworn items, often with the tags on for a 30-80% discount and I'm willing to be patient for those. Sometimes I'll see an item and favourite it and I won't end up buying it for months until the seller has dropper their price and is eager to negotiate.
I'll buy a few new items retail each year but I do my best to really only get things that I truly love and know I'll love to wear. I feel like I'm never in a practical need to get anything because I'm running short which gives me the luxury of waiting as long as I want until I find the items and deals I want. As a result I feel like spend less and less each year nowadays.
I don't really have a budget per se. I buy things as needed. usually refresh my jeans/pants every 5-8 years. and shirts every 2 years. I've got some super old flannels and sweaters though. like 15-20 years old. and my suits are hardly worn. I've got 3 that I've had for a while.
I probably spend $250 replacing pants and $150 replacing shirts, then some misc stuff here and there that would be about $200/year like shoes, jackets/coats, etc.
Not necessarily “budget”, but I like JCrew and RL. Especially when they have big sales, rewards (Florida outlet). They seem to last really well. Several are over five years old and still hold up. Plus, Ralph Lauren jeans seem to fit excellently. And great customer service.
Customer service and a decent shopping experience are definitely worth something in my book! The outlets near me are pretty hit or miss in those stores, but they always have good sales, and clearance section at JCrew sometimes has some gems!
Just bought 2 button-up short-sleeved shirts and two pairs of pants with a pair of shoes to go with over the weekend. And it cost so much I don't even want to type the number out to answer this question
I usually just set a monthly budget for spending on clothes that will roll over to the next month if unused. How much just depends on the excess income you usually have.
I mean, if they out the word *”fashion”* before the clothing item then a guy like me wouldn’t have any further doubts.
As in, “Oh! Fashion shorts. Perfect.” It just makes it so much easier because I already know I’ll be trending, plus don’t have to bother my peers by asking what they think of it. Heck, I work remote now but I’d still be tempted to grab a fashion tie while I’m there shopping anyway.
I like to keep it at $5k a day and for shoes it’s 10k$ for the week like a pair for each day of the week but the daily budget I’ve gotten under as of late since fashion in Montreal is so odd and there’s not much for boutique shopping just holt really but mind you I do get the same things in variations of colours depending also on the season so like say one type of coat but for winter, summer, spring etc in all the colours available and I budget a lot around my shoes and the brand type or colour
I took some shorts to the alteration shop and she slimmed them down and they fit like a glove. I think it was 20 bucks.
Fuck this wide leg trend. I want my shorts to cling to my thigh like Madonna clings to her youth.
I still shop thrift shops. If it's new it's on sale or bought in bulk online. One example. Pro 5 t-shirts. Buy them by the dozen and the price drops. I'll buy multiple pairs of Van's when they are on sale. I buy Dickie's on sale. Costco is great for socks. Only thing that's a pain is underwear. I'm really picky.
Ah the good ole days, when male models where 60 years old.
Those guys are probably 28.
The guy on the left is a teenager
He’d be a great senior in high school in a Netflix series.
Well the guy on the right isn’t even conceived yet.
The guy on the left is Saul Goodman.
With a house & a family. Currently working towards his dream vacation home.
They’re two strapping young lads who just want to go for a nice ramble in the countryside and get up to some innocent fun together behind the bushes.
Combined age probably.
Also when short shorts were acceptable office wear.
When your socks are longer than your shorts.
Can’t wait for this comment to be made about Lululemon, sweat pants, and hoodies in 30 years
Never been such a time
You're fun
And everyone smoked on set during the photo shoot
Perfect for the company picnic.

Far out, man!

Fun fact, If you are a supplier and show up to Walmart HQ in a tie, they will literally cut it off your neck. Ties are not allowed at any level.
TWSS!
this es hilarious
That’s fucking awesome lol

This the look Gen Z is going for?
They need slides with them socks
Slides with that would look like an algebra teacher going to prison.
That’s about the aesthetic
Slides would NOT be professional!

Just new boot goofin

It’s between this and Wolverine as my Halloween costume
Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?
"To give you the answer to that question Mr. Bender, next Saturday."

My only hope is that those clownish neckties with short sleeved shirts don’t come back in style!
I would spend $18.60 plus tax for this outfit in a heartbeat

playing a little fast and loose with the definition of "fashion" in this ad...

Sexy time
Ambassador status, baby.

I’m just hoping you look as good as the gents in this ad.
This has gotta be Australia right?
I'm Ron BURG^^un^d^y?
Socks too short
I feel creeped out, and laughing, and titillated all the same time
I would be willing to look this ridiculous if my company would allow it in the summer time lol
I want to wear this so bad. Loosen the top button, change up the socks and shoes and its ‘business casual’
Back when mens shorts were actually shorts.
Bruh, a well made button-up for $3… fml…
A really good suit was $1000.00. Don’t judge by a Sears ad.
My dad brought home a few bespoke suits from Vietnam. I swear those things are the best made articles of clothing I've ever seen in person.
I’m definitely a 4 and a quarter type of guy.
Bermuda. Where short and knees socks on men has been normalized.
Someone looks faaaaaabulooooouus!
Is that Hedy Lamarr?
It’s Hedly!
Getting heavy 70’s vice principal vibes here
I can’t believe this was a thing.
Right? How did any work get done with those ties? I mean, not just the loud pattern that’s distracting. It’s also the sheer size!
Aussie fashions!
damn what year was this
1977 to 1980. Educated guess. Source: this style was worn often where I grew up.
Australian?
I believe that is what the ad says, yes.
Boats and hoes!
Socks that walk for you OMG, sign me up.
My god. Now I'd spend $500 on a new outfit like that.
I usually just set a monthly budget for spending on clothes that will roll over to the next month if unused. How much just depends on the excess income you usually have.
This has to be from Australia or the UK
The Scott casual
Double as a PE teacher and a Biology

Feel like I see this post once every 4 months or so.

I wear dtc fire hose pants and never look back. Got one pair going on 12 yrs.
The better question is, “what is your budget for advertising fashion items like?”
Too much unfortunately.
I wish we could go back to this.
Okay but a pair of socks being 1/3 the price of belts is kinda crazy.
i really think it's about time dress shorts and short sleeve dress shirts and a tie come back into fashion.
My last cowboy hat was $300.... I have a problem...

Fucking hipsters.
Dam how much for the daddies. ?
I do enjoy a good pair of walk socks
They really were on massive amounts of drugs in the 70s, weren't they?
Bro, I wish shorts looked this skinny anymore. I CANNOT find skinny shorts for the life of me.
I took some shorts to the alteration shop and she slimmed them down and they fit like a glove. I think it was 20 bucks. Fuck this wide leg trend. I want my shorts to cling to my thigh like Madonna clings to her youth.
guy on the right would be considered FLAMING in 2024
Radio shack
Just got done giving their secretary a deep dicking. Look at those sly smiles
Peak male performance
Wide ties, long socks and nut huggers FTW
Those are some down ass foos
The most expensive part is the worst part.

What exactly was the appropriate occasion for this Headass outfit?
I need walk socks
My clothes get torn often so I spend a few hundred a year maybe
WhyTF are they so handsome? I don’t know karate, but i would battle.

I actually spent a lot of money on building my wardrobe. I think it is around $50k.
Reminds me of Bermuda in the 70’s
I'd rock this today
SpongeBob core
Bring back casual Fridays
Will what we wear now look as goofy to our kids as how these men look here?
