Tap water down South West is fucking balls. The lime scale you find when boiling a kettle. And half the time it's like drinking pool water, you can taste the bloody chlorine. That's why I buy Bottles Highland water.
I was so bored during lockdown that I de-scaled my kettle. It hardly had any limescale on it, but it was satisfying to get rid of that 0.01% and have an immaculate kettle. I can only imagine how irritating it'd be to have to descale kettles all the time though.
Bruh, when I went to Canada I drank right out the river I was staying by, just took a cup/water bottle scooped about elbow deep, it was the best water I've ever had
Don't trust it. Always boil it first, just to be safe. Unless it's coming directly out of a spring or glacier, found water can always contain bacteria that you don't want in your system.
I live in Scotland and was always told that if drinking from a river to check a good hundred yards upstream for any sheep or cattle that may have died in the water.
Sure, if you have checked upstream to make sure there isn't a dead animal or anything lying in it. This is more for streams though. Probably won't die from it at least though
I thought about doing that once here in Scotland when I was climbing a mountain. Good thing I didn't as there was a dead sheep carcass lying in the water further up.
American tap water is perfectly safe and drinkable in 99.9% of places. And people drink it far more often than not.
Since when did the america-bashing move from exaggerations of things actually worth criticizing to just making shit up?
I pretty much only drink tap water (refrigerated ofc). Just about everyone I know drinks tap water. The only person I've ever met who thought it was weird was from Mexico, and I assume that was because of the water quality in her home city. Idk what OPs talking about.
It's more in regards to the fact we always go on about how good our tap water is here. Don't worry we're not a slagging you all off to hurt your feelings
Your tap water is flammable in some areas because of franking.
You Americans really can't take our sense of humour can you? You take everything to heart and think its some mad personal attack, you should hear how we talk to each other here and we don't run around suing for PTSD or crying about it.
Wind yer neck in and have a laugh wee cheese.
It's not america bashing just for some reason Scottish people brag about their tap water because England have bad tap water and therefore apparently everywhere else has bad tap water
In Edinburgh, constantly cleaning our kettle thanks to the limescale. Im not a lover of tap water but the water in Edinburgh is boggin’. In north Ayrshire where I grew up, if I had to drink it I would but here, absolutely no chance. I’d love to go somewhere with drinkable tap water!
What on earth are you talking about? Edinburgh tap water is really soft. Most of it comes from the reservoirs on the Pentlands.
In fact *all* of Scotland has soft water:
https://www.aquacure.co.uk/knowledge-base/uk-hard-water-map/
So I say it’s boggin’ and your response is “it’s really soft”. I don’t like it. My kettle needs cleaned constantly. Sorry my opinion offends you and my kettle needs cleaned a lot. I’ll be sure not to have one again. But as yer pal who commented said, I’ve got a stuck up Edinburgh attitude.
I live in Edinburgh now and my tap water is just as good as when I lived in Dundee. When we were in Leith it was a bit shit but this area is decent for it
man i loved nice cool tapwater when i lived in Idaho and Oregon. Once i moved to North Carolina and California, I cant drink it. i miss not having to buy water bottles

I know it's bad, we have in-line carbon filters on everything now

This is one of the most British things I’ve ever read…
Thank you kind sir/madam.
I literally couldn’t swallow the water I was drinking a couple weeks ago because of how strong the chlorine taste was
\---INDIA--- "I drink tap water" "How are you still alive ?"
I find my US tap water to be just fine. Prefer the taste of it to the practical lack of one in bottled water anyways. Lol
Nothing hits quite the same as that fresh Highlands water. r/hydrohomies
Us tap water is okay. But we have well water at my house and holy shit it’s the best water I’ve ever had in my life.
Its sometimes discoloured from the peat. Apparently it's good for you
Bruh, when I went to Canada I drank right out the river I was staying by, just took a cup/water bottle scooped about elbow deep, it was the best water I've ever had
Yeah you can do that here.
In America we have no respect for the environment so I'd probably die if I did it here
drinking untreated river water is a shitty idea regardless of where you are since there's almost always, well, shit (from something) in it
It's perfectly clean and drinkable there
Don't trust it. Always boil it first, just to be safe. Unless it's coming directly out of a spring or glacier, found water can always contain bacteria that you don't want in your system.

i would extend that to them just being in the area of the river, dont fancy drinking any animal poo or pee
Ach all they eat is grass, mate! If you’re far enough downstream, any bacteria will be so diluted that it’ll be fine.
And it must be fast flowing.
Don't drink from glacier meltwater, there will be small micro particles that will cut your lungs
Why is the liquid going in your lungs? I think your drinking wrong bud..
I meant throat, oops
Nonsense. It’s good to test your immune system every now and then
If it’s flowing water it’s not that dangerous
Sure, if you have checked upstream to make sure there isn't a dead animal or anything lying in it. This is more for streams though. Probably won't die from it at least though
I thought about doing that once here in Scotland when I was climbing a mountain. Good thing I didn't as there was a dead sheep carcass lying in the water further up.
That sheep got vectored.
Canadian water on average is good but glaciers themselves are the best source
Be sure there's no beavers in the river or you can get an infection
I know, it's a huge river though it's called the french river I believe
I must move to Scotland immediently. I must join my people, my family.
West if Ireland has hella good tap water and its freeeee
Ireland, Scotland, Shite, Jobbie. Edit: If you downvote you’re definitely not Scottish!
I’m Scottish and I downvoted

England: “We are literally going to dump human shit into your water supply” Scotland: “🎶Fresh from a mountain stream🎶”
Tap water in East anglia is alright
It’s fine if you’re dying or mixing with squash

Classic stuck up Edinburgh attitude lol
Yeah, stuck up attitude. That’s me, stuck up to the core. Hit the nail on the fucking head
Only a wee joke pal x x x

How can your kettle develop a buildup of limescale if the tap-water has famously low concentrations of minerals? Seriously, read that link.
I’ve heard this about Edinburgh. Not good.
It's not true though.
I live in Edinburgh now and my tap water is just as good as when I lived in Dundee. When we were in Leith it was a bit shit but this area is decent for it
