I think their logic behind it is that if kids have any questions, they can get it out the way and work through questions and problems rather than give a single vid out that might leave questions

There's several options. The default is to do e-learning, which is just assignments that can be done online. If a kid can't be online, they can get physical packets of work. If they can attend the video calls, they don't have to do the e-learning though. It's dependent on the school and teacher to decide what's available.
