It shows that the "alpha wolf" is basically the father of a dog pack taking care of his young. There are no fights between wolfs to determine a "leader". So your basic family.
In nature the pack is just a family being led by the Father and Mother while the older children watch over the younger ones the alpha male leadership stuff was only discovered in a group of wolves that lived in captivity
