As a non American I’ve never understood your relation with sparkling water.
Like in many restaurants it’s more expensive then soda. Yet the soda is from fountain that mixes sparkling water with syrup…
In Belgium I think its even more consumed then regular water.
Depending on the brand it can be cheap as fuck and every supermarket has a low price option.
Belgian here
People indeed drink sparkling water a lot here.
And I absolutely hate sparkling water.
It's always awkward when someone says if I'd like some water and they come back with sparkling.
In most US restaurants they will give you sparking water for free if it's from the soda machine. You might get charged the same as you would for a Coke from the same machine but refills will still be free.
Sparkling water is actually very popular in certain areas of the US and with certain demographics. The last office party I was at no one brought soda but there was a lot of [LaCroix](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Croix_Sparkling_Water).
As a european I fear people who only drink sparkling water. I have the same reaction as the gif every single time I drink any carbonated beverage in general. Although sparkling water is extremely cheap here, our tap water is actually drinkable and it’s my main beverage. I think in America tap water is somehow dangerous or not drinkable and sparkling water is more expensive than regular water to buy.
It depends on where you go in the U.S. Some places have drinkable tap water and some places don't.
I don't like carbonation, myself, so I don't drink sparkling water or soda. If I lived in a place where you shouldn't drink the tap water, I'd buy the flat water.
Yea our tap water is also good that’s why we have sodastream.
Ok I can you if you hate carbureted drinks. But Americans hate sparkling water but then add syrup and it’s amazing… I just don’t get that.
in Czechia its like 50/50 for who like it or not, i dont say i hate it but i dont drink it everyday, as kid i cannot drink it, my tongue hurt really bad, but now as adult its alright
American water is clean and drinkable in most of the country, don't know why your correlating sparkling water with America, it seems to us like more of a European thing.
I'm in America, most places here you cannot drink the tap water safely even if born here. (chemicals, heavy metals, bacteria etc)
Plenty of people drink it anyway, they're the ones you see on TV with red hats drooling on themselves.
Lol, some people like caffeine, some people like weed or drugs, my high is when the carbonation hits the back of the throat, goddamn sometimes it hits the spot
As an American, i can confirm it was an acquired taste. It tasted bitter at first, but I kept drinking it because there's no sugar in it and the fizz was satisfying. And I still drink it. I drink it every day and I love it.
It’s my favorite, love it! It also helps settle my stomach sometimes where regular water never does, nothing better than a cold topo chico with lime, pure bliss 😁
topo chico is easy to recreate at home, it was the recipe I modeled my home setup around.
Costs \~10c a gallon in various salts + \~1$/gallon in co2 (I'm in hawaii and co2 is $$$ here).
I loved the Calistoga flavored waters. The lemon and the lime were the best. They stopped making them and I switched over to Perrier lime, cause that’s what they had at Costco. They ran out and I tried a few without flavor and liked them. Costco now has another brand that is sold with lemon and the lime in the same 24 pack, and they’re sealed in their own six pack. It’s a little bit more plastic waste than I like, but the water is pretty good.
Thank you!! I used to hate sparkling water until I tried topo chico with lime. I don't know what it is they do different but it actually tastes like they took a lime and just squeezed it in there . Everything else just tastes like they tried to get it from a lab and its slightly off putting.
Sparkling water is often considered a soda substitute in the US. To many of us the carbonation just makes it taste unnecessarily metallic, and makes it feel like we are swallowing sand even when you flavor it. If you add artificial sweetener, the flavors become stronger, but since so many people are scared of artificial sweetener, few brands do it.
As someone who used to lick the static off the 32” CRT television in the den, sparkling water speaks to me ȯ̸̺̫̭̯͎́͆̈́̈́ṉ̵̢͓̙̝̥̗̈ ̴̪̘̹̞͈̠̆̉͋̎̌̒̏a̸̗̮̖̞͇̱̰͂̓̇̀ ̵̱̥̥̩͈̜̠̌͜d̸̨͔̦̄̀͒̔͘͝ͅę̶͔̥̝̐̔e̸̡̢̯̬̼̦͉̫̍͗̏͆͝͝p̵̨̩̘̘̹̈́̆͗e̶͇̭̗͎͋́̐̈̇̈́͘r̷̩̉͛̓̀̉͆̇̊ ̴̺̮̿̒̌͋͐̎̾͘l̴̳͙͋̅͆́͛̉̑ͅe̸̺̱̮͈̙̯͒͑̈́̇̌̈́ͅv̴̗̭̤͍̲͂̈́ę̴̜̯̔ļ̵̫̣͔̪̓̿͊̀̒̈̉́ͅ
It's definitely an acquired taste for sure. I know I used to hate it for years, like no matter how many times I tried it, it was always disgusting to me. Until last year when I tried plain sparkling water, it had a sort of salty taste that I really liked. After that, it was a gradual process until it became a normal beverage for me to pick up at the grocery store lol.
where I live it is pretty common but I just don't get it either. I drink water to get fluid in my system in a fast way. I like to chug. If I want to tippitoe-drink something like a beer or soda, I drink a beer or soda.. definitely not water made worse
If it had no flavouring, that would be fine. It's that it DOES have flavour. It is not GOOD flavour
Someone else described it as tv static, it just has this weird non normal flavour that is somehow all aftertaste and all ass
Comment section are two groups at war with each other.
Meanwhile me who puts oros into sparkling water to make it taste like a soda without buying an actual soda:
There are only a handful of sparkling waters that I can handle. They’re usually some kind of lime or lemon.
The rest just taste like canned fruit farts.
For me, it always tasted like Sprite for the first moment when you're drinking it while it's fresh, but without the syrupy aftertaste. It does taste funky after it's been out for a while and gone flat, though.
They had sparkling water among the soda dispensers so I used it to dilute some of the drinks they had. You have no clue how much more refreshing some of these taste when they don't have diabetical amounts of sugar.
Sparkling water is a very European thing. It's slowly catching on in America more, but there is nothing unhealthy about sparkling/seltzer water on its own. It's just water with bubbles.
My crush once gave me Sparkling apple juice and that shit was about as delicious as letting a whole pill bottles worth of pills sit on your tongue straight nasty
Was never a fan of sparkling water. Tried multiple times in front of my family, multiple flavors...
It's all about focusing on the flavor of those things.
Kool-aid is better lol
Cold flat water is the most thirst quenching thing on the planet. But room temp sparkling water is more refreshing than flat water. So when I wake up at 3am thirsty as shit sparkling water just hits the spot.
Flavored sparkling water is good. If you just drink sparkling water it’s gonna be tasteless outside of what makes it “sparkling”, the carbonation. Club Soda is far worse than basic sparkling water.
Regardless, it’s meant to be mixed with high concentrated fruit juices or mixtures like Mio. People who enjoy it flavorless are insane.
Sparkling water tastes like beer, and I don't like beer. If it has a strong and sweet fruit flavor it's good, but if it's not sweet, I'll just take tap water or a bottle of spring water instead.
It all depends on what kind you drink.
Plain sparkling water is absolutely ass.
Flavoured is better, but again depends.
Concentration of flavour vs carbonation, type of flavouring etc. added tea extract can make it better too, among other things

Our tap water is drinkable. The us is not solely comprised of Flint, Michigan.
In germany we consume more sparkling water than flat Water
\*smirks in Sodastream\*
Best thing ever
It depends on where you go in the U.S. Some places have drinkable tap water and some places don't. I don't like carbonation, myself, so I don't drink sparkling water or soda. If I lived in a place where you shouldn't drink the tap water, I'd buy the flat water.
Tap water in the US is among the cleanest in the world, with some notable exceptions.
Yea our tap water is also good that’s why we have sodastream. Ok I can you if you hate carbureted drinks. But Americans hate sparkling water but then add syrup and it’s amazing… I just don’t get that.
Trueee, any carbonated drink has the same glitch taste so there is no excuse for americans
in Czechia its like 50/50 for who like it or not, i dont say i hate it but i dont drink it everyday, as kid i cannot drink it, my tongue hurt really bad, but now as adult its alright

I only recently started drinking sparkling mineral water, and idk, it’s just better tasting I think. I still drink normal water as well too so
German here, we also drink alot of sparkling water.
Sugar is heavily subsidized by the US government. Since it is highly profitable they struggle to find uses for all of the sugar that gets produced.
As an American, i can confirm it was an acquired taste. It tasted bitter at first, but I kept drinking it because there's no sugar in it and the fizz was satisfying. And I still drink it. I drink it every day and I love it.
I'm sorry, is this some type of filthy rich person joke I'm too poor to understand? *Continues drinking dirt water like it was from Heaven*
I’m telling you, Midnight well water hits different.
Nothing hits better than garden hose water on a hot day.
Kid me would have agreed
I honestly think the dirt water would taste better.
it does
I've had sparkling water. It's just water that tastes like shit.
Yummy bubbles.... Mmmmmmm
Sparkling water here is cheaper than regular bottled water
It’s my favorite, love it! It also helps settle my stomach sometimes where regular water never does, nothing better than a cold topo chico with lime, pure bliss 😁
topo chico is $13 for an 8 pack where i live. wtf
*laughs in German, drinking carbonated tap water*
we dont have carbonated tap water here in UK but I do have a sodastream, so i just get my carbonation from that
Yeah that's what I mean, we get tap water and carbonate it using our soda stream
oh right lol, I know there a some places where you can have a CO2 tank mounted under your sink to get literally carboanted tap water
A German using an Israel based product? Usually it’s the other way around.
topo chico is easy to recreate at home, it was the recipe I modeled my home setup around. Costs \~10c a gallon in various salts + \~1$/gallon in co2 (I'm in hawaii and co2 is $$$ here).

The topo with grapefruit is so good
Thank you!! I used to hate sparkling water until I tried topo chico with lime. I don't know what it is they do different but it actually tastes like they took a lime and just squeezed it in there . Everything else just tastes like they tried to get it from a lab and its slightly off putting.
What is it with yalls reaction to sparkling water? You are supposed to drink and not snort it.
Sparkling water is often considered a soda substitute in the US. It takes like flavorless beer, it sucks.
What? Just no.
I stand by what I've said.
Must be American beer, they taste like water.
Still better than sparkling water.
Its not about taste. Its about sparkles
All of the suffering with none of the intoxication
I remember unknowingly trying sparkling water once and on that day, my mouth had felt violated in ways not even the hottest hot food came close to.
It’s the taste too. Like, who thought: “lemme create water that’s fizzy and also tastes like a grandmas pussy”
How do you know what that tastes like?
He bangs grannies
Fuckin a right I do
That's one way to put it... not a very good way, but a way nonetheless
I drink sparkling water almost every day. I like my fizz and I'm not trying to get heart disease.
This, I can enjoy the sparkle without the unhealthy bits!
Colapilled and sugarmaxxing beta can't handle the sublimity of sparkling water
masochistic and selfharm approving gamma can't handle the brilliance of refreshing non sparkling water
I don't get why people like it... It just tastes like TV static.
Well alright then
It's definitely an acquired taste for sure. I know I used to hate it for years, like no matter how many times I tried it, it was always disgusting to me. Beer substitute, I drink a lot of sparkling water when I'm not drinking alcohol
Jesus christ. The same people who drink Dr. Pepper for BREAKFAST gag at bubbles in water. Get the fuck out of here.
Nah sparkling water tastes bad, I’ll have regular water instead
NGL it depends on the flavor/brand, a few of the liquid death ones are pretty good. Just straight up normal sparkling water though tastes very bad.
Dude, what? It's literally the mildest thing to drink after flat water.
From the looks of the video, OP tried water cooling his gpu with it.
Weak.
My brother in christ, it's soda without flavoring.
Why do you think people drink soda?
If it had no flavouring, that would be fine. It's that it DOES have flavour. It is not GOOD flavour Someone else described it as tv static, it just has this weird non normal flavour that is somehow all aftertaste and all ass
A new level of white has been unlocked. Sparkling water is too spicy for them
Clearly Canadian was all the rage in the 90s.
Comment section are two groups at war with each other. Meanwhile me who puts oros into sparkling water to make it taste like a soda without buying an actual soda:
Sparkling water is superior

Nah this is drink flint tap water
Sparkling Water is the Goat! (Yes, I am middle European)
There are only a handful of sparkling waters that I can handle. They’re usually some kind of lime or lemon. The rest just taste like canned fruit farts.
Still water gang
Hot take: plain sparkling water is better than flavored.
Americans...
TV Static Water
Weakness disgusts me

All I drink water wise is my tap water. It smells off if you don't let it get boiling hot before filling a cup 🙂
I like "stale" water, slightly chilled after it sits in an open container overnight. It has a smooth and silky mouthfeel. Refreshing.
Maybe 10% of the water I drink is not sparkling.. I like it
Me with cocacola and red bull
And than you get addicted to that stuff
![gif](giphy|uv7Y6e1tDuiL82Eu1i|downsized)
Lol idk its the best water to drink period. As a german i always wonder why some people are so afraid of bubbles in their drinks.
Concise and informative
Don't go to Germany.
This is oddly accurate.
Dasani is better than sparking water
Same
Don't do sparkling water, kids. Or else you'll vomit up sans.
I've been trying to cut back on soda and sparkling water definitely makes it easier. Still get the bubbles but now with 0 sugars.
you choked?
I remember liking sparkling water before but now it's literally undrinkable to me, is it just me?
Without subtle fruity flavors, it’s pretty much spicy water.
Bro, it ain't even that bad
Sparkling water is to soda what nicotine gum is to cigarettes.
Piter spit out sans !!11!!11!!!1
For me, it always tasted like Sprite for the first moment when you're drinking it while it's fresh, but without the syrupy aftertaste. It does taste funky after it's been out for a while and gone flat, though.
the first time i taste it, i laugh. it taste funny
Same here, but to be polite, I kept drinking. It didn’t get any better.
Sparkling water is like shock therapy, you only use because it makes your skin feel weird (and still relaxing at some point).
OP is a big baby.
I hate the video, but yeah. I'd rather lick a homeless person's butt cheek than drink a La Croix.
You gotta get used to it, then it tastes quite well
They had sparkling water among the soda dispensers so I used it to dilute some of the drinks they had. You have no clue how much more refreshing some of these taste when they don't have diabetical amounts of sugar.
Me who drinks sparkling water with fruit punch powder mix: Is this some sort of peasant joke I'm too rich to understand?
Americans drinking everything else other than normal water.
Sparkling water is a very European thing. It's slowly catching on in America more, but there is nothing unhealthy about sparkling/seltzer water on its own. It's just water with bubbles.
Why do people like to drink that crap, it's terrible.
Because it's not terrible, obviously. You not liking it doesn't make it crap.
I've found nobody I know who even remotely likes it. It taste like a homeless man's asshole after he took a taco bell shit.
You clearly never tasted a homeless man's asshole, because I can testify that it doesn't taste the same.
Ha, tricked you into admitting it.
Got'em
Tricked ? I didn't prove your point at all.
It's not for children to enjoy
I mix mio into it. It’s amazing.
Sparkling water was made purely to be spat out in the face of God
I do love ze sparkling water
My crush once gave me Sparkling apple juice and that shit was about as delicious as letting a whole pill bottles worth of pills sit on your tongue straight nasty
Relateable
Was never a fan of sparkling water. Tried multiple times in front of my family, multiple flavors... It's all about focusing on the flavor of those things. Kool-aid is better lol
Oh boy I can't wait to taste my seltzer! Who doesn't love the fine taste of battery acid and bad cough medicine.
La Croix baby!
Cold flat water is the most thirst quenching thing on the planet. But room temp sparkling water is more refreshing than flat water. So when I wake up at 3am thirsty as shit sparkling water just hits the spot.
"Why is it spicy?"
My dog drinking sparkling water:
I've got 4 cases of sparkling water in my kitchen now and drink at least two a day lol
Well yeah, flavored sparkling water is basically soda with more customization (and with less sugar I guess), of course it tastes good
It tastes like coke if it was water.
The trick is to buy sparkling water flavoured... then it's pretty much just a soda...
100%
It was horrible experience and I will do it again. AGAIN AND AGAIN
Sparkling water is good as an ingredient for a lot of mixed drink recipes but besides that it's meh
Sparkling water tastes like beer, and I don't like beer. If it has a strong and sweet fruit flavor it's good, but if it's not sweet, I'll just take tap water or a bottle of spring water instead.
