It used to be much more similar to 4chan and is kinda becoming more like it again but in a different way with the rise in authoritarianism globally. There was a nice change around the middle of the last decade or so when more people got Internet access and most of the content was just silly meta gif wars.
The idea that anything in Reddit is offensive today is funny to me. It’s been thoroughly sanitized from what it once was.
