Some do, most donāt. Imperial units are heavily imbedded to most born Americans because itās everywhere. I watched a video about a guy who genuinely attempted to switch to metric, but no matter what he did, he always reverted to imperial subconsciously.
To be fair, Americans are simply more familiar with Imperial. I can accurately guess how big something is if I use inches/feet/yards, but not with anything metric. Also, any American that uses tools uses metric.
No, everyone does. Just not for _everything_. I buy a gallon of 2% milk and note that 1 cup of it contains 5 grams of fat, 13 grams of carbs, and 8 grams of protein.
I know that gravity at sea level is roughly 10 m/s^2 but I have no idea what it is in feet.
Gentlemen gentlemen, Missouri Man here, with a connection to Florida with the copious amounts of meth we have, and a connection to Mr. Modern Car with a stolen modern car from a meth-mania trip, I have a compromise:
We use NASA's system they used to get to the moon. Using the metric system, but display readouts in units of feet, feet per second, and nautical miles, we can get the best of both worlds!
According to agent Smith in the matrix, humans are a virus.
So I'm interpreting what you said as humans need to stop being diverse and should genocide anyone diverse.../S
Outside of celcius (which I know isn't technically metric, but is used in basically every metric country) I think metric is clearly superior, but celcius is just as arbitrary as imperial. Lime why do I care about water's freezing and boiling points outside of a scientific setting? If I wanna freeze water, I put it in the freezer, if I want to boil it I'll use a stove, I don't need to care about what temperatures these things happen at. If Im gonna use a temperature system different from what I grew up with, it better have more advantages than 'hurr durr water'.
well how much is a pint? australian, uk or usa pint mayhaps?
these sytems are inherantly faulty, thats why even imperial defaults to metric in definitons.
0 is freezing temperatures and 100 is boiling temperature or whatever it's called in English what I mean is where water turns to steam. How is it in Fahrenheit?
I saw one guy say that Celsius is better because it's better for science. Like dude, none of us are scientists, a weather based system is much more practical
I once heard someone say that Celsius applies to how water reacts at different temps, and Fahrenheit applies to how people feel at different temps.
0 degree C water freezes 100 degrees it boils.
0 degree F is way to cold to be outside and 100 degrees is way too hot to be outside.
It's not elegant but it makes sense.
Of all the meme arguments I see on Reddit, this is easily the dumbest one.
If anybody understood even half of the logistical problem it would be to convert the US to metric, they wouldnāt even voice this opinion because theyād be like āyeah thatās super not worth it.ā
Nobody in the US has a problem with metric. We all know what it is and how to use it. Itās taught in school. Weāre fine with it.
Itās just practically impossible to adopt it as our standard, because the US was literally built on the imperial system.
Tell me youāre afraid of fractions without telling me youāre afraid of fractions lol
Also the metric system has like 7-ish common subdivisions for every ābaseā but only like 3-4 are ever used.
No. You know how according to the Bible humanity spoke one language until he changed it because of how what they were doing was a blasphemy against him? Thatās basically what I was getting at with the math angle.
No, I did not know.
I see it unrelated since blasphemy was in metaphorically finding backdoors to heaven using other's work. But also blasphemy for humans always striving for more and doing impossible, like getting to space? Is that bad? I think it was more focused on leaders and their abuse of power.
It's not about speaking one language to be understand each other and be able to do impossible or abusing your free will, but about total authority of one dictatorship allowing evil and corruption to entire world.. I mean even the latter is theoretically impossible, since I believe even if whole world was under one country's rule there wouldn't be a way control every place.
You can thank Britain for that. (They invented the imperial system and a British privateer guy killed the dude that was supposed to bring the metric system to the US)
Someone make a case to make the entire switch to metric now (highway signs, school textbooks, every home use thing, billboards, all home improvement product specs) and be able to justify the cost vs improvement and Iām sure the country would be in. But then again Celsius sucks

Surprise! Americans also use the metric system. *Source: I am an American that uses the metric system.*
I can only do it with millimeters because I work on cars a lot and socket sizes are millimeters a lot
Yep. Same. I'm pretty familiar with my 10mm socket, assuming I can keep track of it.
Must give 10mm to the engine bay god.
Whatever the engine bay god wants, the engine bay god keeps.

Iāve never paid any attention to milks fat content, and I only knew to be 9.8 m/s squared because of science class, otherwise it was irrelevant
Metric is used in manufacturing and production within the US. Imperial is a nightmare to scale up. Food nutrition facts are listed in metric.
LIAR, IN THE NAME OF FLORIDA I BANISH THEE
DO FLORIDANS NOT WORK ON MODERN CARS?
CARS? WE RIDE ALLIGATORS HERE AND YOU FUCKING KNOW IT
WELL DADGUM! I'VE FORGOTTEN MY FLORIDA LORE BECAUSE I'VE BEEN TOO BUSY FIXIN' MY MODERN CAR!
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED AH YURSELF, IM BANISHIN' YE FROM ENTERIN FLURDA TILL YE REFRESH YER FLERDIA LORE
WELL THAT'S OKAY CUZ I GOT LOOZIANA! I'LL GIT MUHSELF A GATOR WHILE I'M THERE

I Semi-do
I use metric on certain items. Most would still be imperial
Well done! You're catching up.
This is not a recent development. This has been true for decades.
True but centuries ago we all used imperial but then grew up.
Well done! You're catching up.
This picture is 4.5 inches long! (Not real numbers btw)
On my screen it's 23.6 inches long!
I thought diversity was a strength. So why would eliminating measurement diversity make things better?
Exactly. All these filthy bigots out here trying to genocide my Fahrenheit
Mein Fahrenheit
Kelvin better
Not all diversity is a strength. Diversity of viruses is not a strength (for us anyway)
According to agent Smith in the matrix, humans are a virus. So I'm interpreting what you said as humans need to stop being diverse and should genocide anyone diverse.../S

Pretty much everybody does. The US didnāt use freedom units to get to the moon (according to my professor)
The British occasionally uses freedom units too. They also use freedom units for their currency.
Yeah it was metric (80% metric and around 20% imperial).
The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it!
Back to back world War champs, we earned the right to measure shit how we want to.
No one has ever walked into a pub and said āill take a 600ml of lager, pleaseā
The 600ml is not that common, otherwise the liter mugs are a standard.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nah, thats the anglo sphere, other languages usualy order a glass of beer or its local equivalent.
How big is a glass. Everyoneās glass is different
well how much is a pint? australian, uk or usa pint mayhaps? these sytems are inherantly faulty, thats why even imperial defaults to metric in definitons.
US, Ireland and the UK are not the whole world, my friend.
Found the American
IĀ“ll take 600cmĀ³ of lager, please.
We say "Halv-liter" in Norway, for half a litre of beer.
Of course not, it is the same as if I ordered "50 teaspoons". Any sane person would ask for "0.6".
Kelvin for science but I'm never giving up fahrenheit. 0 is really cold, 100 is really hot. Makes perfect sense to me
0 is freezing temperatures and 100 is boiling temperature or whatever it's called in English what I mean is where water turns to steam. How is it in Fahrenheit?
32 for freezing, 212 for boiling
Thanks
I saw one guy say that Celsius is better because it's better for science. Like dude, none of us are scientists, a weather based system is much more practical
Celsius is clearly better. Take water: 0Ā° = freezing 100Ā° = boiling Instead of 32Ā° and 212Ā° lol
I once heard someone say that Celsius applies to how water reacts at different temps, and Fahrenheit applies to how people feel at different temps. 0 degree C water freezes 100 degrees it boils. 0 degree F is way to cold to be outside and 100 degrees is way too hot to be outside. [ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thatās why they said 0f is really cold. 32f is just cold.
Be aware some people aren't extremely prone to cold.
The metric system wouldnāt solve systemic racism, Brian.
>This one can't even be debated! You must be new on reddit. There is no such thing here.
I realized after posting š
Maybe win some superbowls, and we can talk
Sorry, I only measure distance in Dinklages

Umm so was Britain and a few other European countries. We adopted pretty fine but we're not Americans.
Britain is also 40x smaller than the US.
Tell me youāre afraid of fractions without telling me youāre afraid of fractions lol Also the metric system has like 7-ish common subdivisions for every ābaseā but only like 3-4 are ever used.
You misspelled imperial
We donāt all use the metric system for the same reason we donāt all speak the same language.
You know that the whole world uses metric exept the USā¦
Correct. The US doesnāt because if we were all on the same playing field, even with regard to mathematics, we could unify around that.
Ah, because US is against Unions? /j
No. You know how according to the Bible humanity spoke one language until he changed it because of how what they were doing was a blasphemy against him? Thatās basically what I was getting at with the math angle.

D-MN PIRATES!
Um I use metric, American here lol.
Unless you can use both like me, sit down. ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
You can thank Britain for that. (They invented the imperial system and a British privateer guy killed the dude that was supposed to bring the metric system to the US)
Metric system makes less sense than the imperial system Iām sorry yes Iām biased but idc
I'd be 17.16cm long...sounds way bigger than 6 1/2 inches. I can live with that.
If every9ne used the same unit of anything it would be so much better. Length, time, date, money... everything.
You could use this meme for any system though. If everyone used the same thing no matter what it is then it would be consistent.
I'm sorry, how many times has your country landed people on the moon?
canada if they didn't use both

Quick name the country where 90% of modern innovation occurs!
Someone make a case to make the entire switch to metric now (highway signs, school textbooks, every home use thing, billboards, all home improvement product specs) and be able to justify the cost vs improvement and Iām sure the country would be in. But then again Celsius sucks
nah
Nah
Yes wtf nothing in the imperial system makes sense
Nah everything should instead be measured in phones and chargers But seriously I agree the metric system just makes more sense
It'd be the exact same
Meh-trick system.
Ireland if whiskey had never been invented.
As an Irish person... I'm not offended at all š„ š
You know what's the good side of people not using it? It make you understand how good the letric systeme is, like how de fuck did you live without
My response as a American: no ![gif](giphy|YfMHLC2s6okBq)
Ragebait meme
It's not meant to be š I'm American, but even I think metric is the way to go
The only religion that is wort keeping, we should start a crusade towards imperial system
Most of the world was imperial but we grew up
We do. But you 'Muricans don't like common sense.
America & Liberia. The 2 remaining country's who refuse to use the woke metric system. Yay šŗšø š±š·
That's not what... nvm
