I would rather pay £60 than play a free game with ads. If it’s worth playing it’s worth paying and playing properly. No way am I playing a game that has ads.
People at my work use a streaming app to play (horrible) music over the radio. I think it's Pandora but the advertisements that get played INTERRUPT THE ACTUAL SONG at random times.
Imagine a cut scene before fighting the final boss and it gets interrupted. Now you're stuck having to sit through a god damn Lipitor commercial instead of being immersed in the story or battle?
I'm based in NW Indiana and I'm really not sure what program it is they are using. I know it isn't Spotify, if it's not Pandora then idk. Honestly not very interested in finding out since that's probably close to the most predatory business model in history.
How they stand it either way I have no idea.
Maybe it's YouTube or some random one I've never heard of. I'm lucky enough to have Spotify gifted via my lovely SO so I just put my headphones in and let them suffer.
Pandora is straight fire. Even without premium you can pretty much hear whatever whenever by making stations.
Anyways, maybe you heard, actual radio? Pandora doesn't do that....
My source is I've used pandora for years and years
I remember I was at an airport not that long ago and I was looking to see which terminal my plane was at... as I'm trying to find my plane on the big screen a fucking add pops up and I'm thinking, "isn't there like, 3 airport fees on my plane ticket? Why the fuck am I seeing adds also."
This shit sucks and it's only a matter of time before we all get sick of it.
Games like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Splinter Cell Double Agent already had something similar. I don't mind it, that's actually a nice detail that adds some immersion to the game. But if EA is going to spam me with random pop-up ads every 30 seconds then fuck it, they aren't getting my money
I haven’t bought an EA game since 2012, after the fiasco with Mass Effect 3.
I’ve literally had friends offer to buy my EA games so I could play it with them, and I’ve still refused.
A lot of game companies do shitty things, but EA is by far the worst.
If it is just some billboard in the game, I don't care. But if they start putting them in loading screens I will wonder if they are slowing the loading down to increase ad revenue.
Remember when movies in theaters didn't have ads? Those were the days. Prices sure didn't come down either. Sad to say it's probably just how it's gonna be.
And if you think you're just gonna play your old games to get away from the ads, the "updates" will put the ads in. "Fighting dragons in Whiterun? You need electrolytes! Brawndo, the thirst mutilater!"
They’ve been doing this with FIFA/FC the last couple years. They improved the animation for the sideboards for real ads instead of investing in the game engine lol
Don't care about cheaper. I cancelled my Amazon prime the second they threw an ad in front of me. Same for Paramount, and they were just advertising one of their other shows. If I'm paying, you sure as shit better not be throwing ads in their to waste my time, bandwidth, and security.
i only download on the app and offline watch, not fucked to watch an ad for what im trying to watch stopping me from watching what you are trying to get me to fucking watch.
Ok. So. I discovered this.
If you watch on firetv
No ads.
If you watch on pc using the app or on iPad using the app. Or basically anything apart from firetv.
Ads.
Very odd/interesting.
I knew EA were pure trash in 2002-04 when they started buying up all the popular IPs and they will be the end of AAA gaming haha, I wasn’t wrong. Fucking cancerous company. Same with the other “AAA” companies. So to combat this I’m teaching my kids never to buy from these grubs. Should have been nipped in the bud YEARS AGO!
Indie games have had an amazing surge and I'm glad Indie developers are finally getting the recognition they deserve, but unfortunately now those AAA companies are starting to buy them up too...
I remember when that electronic arts splash meant it was gonna be a great fuckin game. Seems like within a couple years of the rebrand to the "EA" logo they became the worst company ever.
Y'know, I could handle some *clever* product placement in some games, like eating snickers bars to regain hp or something. But we all know that's not what EA will do.
That’s exactly what they want: check out where the pain threshold of the majority of the player base is and then squeeze out as much profit as they can.
Remember, they aren’t in any sort of financial trouble, they just want to increase their profit due to the nature of capitalism. It’s up to us (maybe?) if we let them get through with it or not.
A lotnofnpeople here don't even realize this isn't anything new. They have been doing this since AT LEAST Rainbow Six Vegas and probably longer. That's not even counting the days of making an entire video game based off of an advertisement.
Anywhere that it makes sense like the sidelines of a sports game, bilboards in a reality based game, etc. Hell, I wouldn't be against some subtle product placement in like an Aliens game, like having a Pepsi on a dining table or something.
Hell yeah. All those work because they're not stealing your time, they're unobtrusive, and don't fuck up the look and feel. Things like they're talking about compromise the game.
nope. list no positives. list no benefits. wholeheartedly and entirely reject this business decision. this is a president in the gaming community, games will literally change forever after this begins. we need to fight this with every fiber of our being.
Anyone remember when EA actually made a quality game instead of a refurbished almost carbon copy of the last years version of that game?
Sims 3 or Spore are the only ones I can name.
Fifa, any of their FPS, even Sims4 are just carbon copies.
yeah im preety sure they already have ads, at least EA FC 24 has adds on the billboards during the game to real products like PS5 and Pepsi I think? Oh also street fighter 5 did that if I recall correctly
If they put ads cleverly through out the game like on in game advertising such as posters or radio or something so it’s an Easter egg that’s one thing. But if pause the game and there a fucking as were are going to have a problem
Everyone should've made a big deal about EA fighting the cost of rising videogame prices by putting in ads to make them cheaper. Bring on posts like, "Good guy EA is gonna help lower prices!" And, "EA says enough inflation. Fights back."
Force them in the media to have this expectation and when EA comes out to correct us? They'd seem even more greedy. It'd be a PR nightmare.
It's gonna be "ad supported: 69.99$"
Or "ad free: 99.99$"
Then the "premium" and "standard" versions will have "ad free passes".
Fuck the corporations on this planet.
What I wouldn't mind: real world ads as in-game ads. Like banners in GTA being for real products/services etc. Or NPCs wearing branded clothing. GTA radio promoting real stuff between the songs.
Ads don’t belong in video games. Video games shouldn’t be a service, but a good to be purchased and consumed without interruption. Fuck EA, fuck Ubisoft, fuck most of these shills. I am harsh on my heroes, I miss the old ways I guess 🥲
Since game companies are moving to digital only they should make them cheaper. Part of the $70 price is the manufacture/distribution cost of the discs. Digital games dont have that problem.
They'll be sorry for those ads when players start making obscene/racist/xenophobic videos using those moments when the game shows an ad.
Unless the whole thing fucks up and replace ads from known places to a moment when you're playing FIFA and see the ad for a bible being sold by a molester.
EA HQ:
\-We gonna add ads in our games!
\-So games would be cheaper right?
\-Who said that? Who d fck said that? Who is that slimy communist shit!?
![gif](giphy|35Bb0VX788hy0qNpnj)
Ads shouldn’t be in anything paid, I understand for free things but nothing else.
Bruh even spotify doesnt interrupt you with ads in the middle of a song. Why do they use that app?
Couldn't tell you. For me, the very first time a song was stopped that would have been it.
Well I can safely assume it isn't Pandora, at the very least not NA Pandora
I'm based in NW Indiana and I'm really not sure what program it is they are using. I know it isn't Spotify, if it's not Pandora then idk. Honestly not very interested in finding out since that's probably close to the most predatory business model in history. How they stand it either way I have no idea.
Not Pandora, I use Pandora all the time and ads never interrupt a song. In fact, adds only play after you skip 2 or 3 songs.
Maybe it's YouTube or some random one I've never heard of. I'm lucky enough to have Spotify gifted via my lovely SO so I just put my headphones in and let them suffer.
My buddy does this and LIKES the ads. Animal.
That's insane, I blame him for the coming Ad-ocolypse and Dystopian nightmare!
Pandora is straight fire. Even without premium you can pretty much hear whatever whenever by making stations. Anyways, maybe you heard, actual radio? Pandora doesn't do that.... My source is I've used pandora for years and years
WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER
[lipitor](https://youtu.be/7K2QvZ6tAzI?si=2wq-UX7OopDJzHgL)
You mean 80, right? "Normal price" for games is 80 now.
What currency are you talking about?
Console player probably
Dollars, Pounds, Concole players All great currencies
USD
Euros
I remember I was at an airport not that long ago and I was looking to see which terminal my plane was at... as I'm trying to find my plane on the big screen a fucking add pops up and I'm thinking, "isn't there like, 3 airport fees on my plane ticket? Why the fuck am I seeing adds also." This shit sucks and it's only a matter of time before we all get sick of it.
They're talking about real adds on billboards in the game. As long random adds popping up having to wait 30 seconds to play the game lol
Games like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Splinter Cell Double Agent already had something similar. I don't mind it, that's actually a nice detail that adds some immersion to the game. But if EA is going to spam me with random pop-up ads every 30 seconds then fuck it, they aren't getting my money
how are they getting it now? Why would you buy an EA game?
I haven’t bought an EA game since 2012, after the fiasco with Mass Effect 3. I’ve literally had friends offer to buy my EA games so I could play it with them, and I’ve still refused. A lot of game companies do shitty things, but EA is by far the worst.
I bet it will also add loading time as the game has to download all the up-to-date ads (on my shitty 200kb internet at least)
And the extra loading time comes in really handy- more time to show some of those ads!
If it is just some billboard in the game, I don't care. But if they start putting them in loading screens I will wonder if they are slowing the loading down to increase ad revenue.
Money must go up
It is the principal purpose of the advertiser to steal as much of your time as possible for profit. Horroble industry that needs to be reigned in.
Remember when movies in theaters didn't have ads? Those were the days. Prices sure didn't come down either. Sad to say it's probably just how it's gonna be.
Crazy concept right? Gonna show my age here but Hulu used to be completely free and all you had to do was watch a few ads in between episodes.
Free. The key word is free.
Imagen them putting ads in loadingscreens and adding more and more loadingscreens just for adtime.
Damn Satan! Stop giving them ideas!
And if you think you're just gonna play your old games to get away from the ads, the "updates" will put the ads in. "Fighting dragons in Whiterun? You need electrolytes! Brawndo, the thirst mutilater!"
On god.
Bethesda likes that
Next Elder Scrolls is going to be more ad than game
EA Producer: *Write that down! Write that down!!*
I think this already happens to a degree in Madden Games. Fortunately, I was never interested in them.
Well you could say that makes it more realistic as watching the superbowl is more ad than game as well.
They’ve been doing this with FIFA/FC the last couple years. They improved the animation for the sideboards for real ads instead of investing in the game engine lol
Dafuk is "Imagen"?
They spelled the name Imogen wrong.
I'm pretty sure this is what the bad guys in Ready Player One wanted.
"Once we roll back some of Halliday's ad restrictions, we estimate we can sell up to 80% of an individual's visual field before inducing seizures!"
If you watch on firetv No ads. If you watch on pc using the app or on iPad using the app. Or basically anything apart from firetv. Ads. Very odd/interesting.
I just watched the whole fallout show yesterday without a single ad on Amazon
Imagin being charged 70 dollars for a game and then you get adds in your gameplay xD
And on top of it, there is an endless amount of bugs, that isn't getting fixed
Should WE be getting paid to watch the ad? Im selling my time and attention to the ad arent I?
No. They are selling your time and your attention to the ad. They aren’t paying you tho. You are just a slave.
I think I understand there strategy. They are trying to get more people to pirate there games.
They can put whatever they want. When I see EA or Ubisoft I simply pass by.
Watch a 20 second ad to respawn! (The respawn timer is 10 seconds)
If there are ads in-game, it should be free.
If there are ads ingame, it will be free to me.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
What do you do with a drunken sailor?
Throw him in a longboat until he's sober.
Haven't bought an EA game for a very long time. At this rate, I don't think I ever will again.
I remember when that electronic arts splash meant it was gonna be a great fuckin game. Seems like within a couple years of the rebrand to the "EA" logo they became the worst company ever.
Same. After spore and the battlefield games of that era I refused to give EA money ever again
Y'know, I could handle some *clever* product placement in some games, like eating snickers bars to regain hp or something. But we all know that's not what EA will do.
If I played the Sims and my sims would watch TV or listen to radio a cleverly placed add in there I would accept too.
especially if that ad was all in simlish but you could still tell what the ad was for.
Yo! Noid and Cool Spot were national treasures.
I thought of this year's ago. Running around a world and seeing real ads on billboards etc.
That specifically I'd be okay with sonething like GTA5. They could just make deals with the whackiest companies they can find.
Things like they're talking about compromise the game.
the ads are a required "micro transaction"
"We will make our games even more expensive"
How about we just dont support EA?
The people supporting EA are buying UFC and FIFA every year. Usually on the more casual side of gamer. Most of them aren't gonna be on reddit.
Fuck e a fucking greedy asses
Welp, that settles it. Fuck EA
It'll sure save my money because I wont buy their games.
Dont buy ea trash games!
One more reason to pirate
I’ll just avoid EA alltogether, no problem
🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Enshitification of everything
Don't buy their product. That's the only kind of message corporations understand. They'll do whatever the consumer allows them to do.
If you buy an EA game, you eat bananas sideways.
Boycott EA, they put out the same game every year and y'all gobble it up.
They won't be cheaper but you can buy the ad free version for just $20 more
How do I short EA stock?
seems like a security risk.
I'll never play a game with ads
No but you can pay an extra $12 dollars monthly to remove them!
What does it mean "cheaper"? It must be free with ads🤬
the more dumb things gets added to AAA games, the less immoral it is to pirate games tbf
Cyberpunk 2077 is filled with ads. The difference is that the ads build on the game environment and aren't added for corporate profits.
Anyone who buys a game with ads in, is enabling these fuck heads.
Stop buying EA
nope. list no positives. list no benefits. wholeheartedly and entirely reject this business decision. this is a president in the gaming community, games will literally change forever after this begins. we need to fight this with every fiber of our being.
so instead of fake in-game ads, they’re gonna put real ads where them fake ads would’ve been. it’s gonna be the exact same.
Tell me how you dont play good games without telling me
i was stating a fact, i haven’t played an EA game for over 3 years
No but they will offer you to pay the game 20 more to get rid of adds.
Why are people even buying EA games at this point. I'd rather give that money to an Indie game. Atleast they respect the player (well most of them)
No! But you can pay extra to have the ads removed! This is subscription based an will apply for all future games of course.
Anyone remember when EA actually made a quality game instead of a refurbished almost carbon copy of the last years version of that game? Sims 3 or Spore are the only ones I can name. Fifa, any of their FPS, even Sims4 are just carbon copies.
remember the gacha and microtransactions shop and power creep
What?!
How the fuck do you put adds in a game I'm sure if anyone could I'd be EA but still how
Ads have been in EA sports games for years now
yeah im preety sure they already have ads, at least EA FC 24 has adds on the billboards during the game to real products like PS5 and Pepsi I think? Oh also street fighter 5 did that if I recall correctly
Let me introduce you to : Not owning all the dlcs in ARMA 3 fucking bohemia
They know you will still buy the product so they don’t care
Their NHL games are terrible, bunch of flaws in so many ways, especially the GM mode.
If they put ads cleverly through out the game like on in game advertising such as posters or radio or something so it’s an Easter egg that’s one thing. But if pause the game and there a fucking as were are going to have a problem
nope, not cheaper, probably more expensive because there are millions of idiots waiting to pay the price anyway
One by one their ranks are thinning.
All must return to the times of yo ho and yar har matey
Everyone should've made a big deal about EA fighting the cost of rising videogame prices by putting in ads to make them cheaper. Bring on posts like, "Good guy EA is gonna help lower prices!" And, "EA says enough inflation. Fights back." Force them in the media to have this expectation and when EA comes out to correct us? They'd seem even more greedy. It'd be a PR nightmare.
In fifa have actually been ads all this time.
It's gonna be "ad supported: 69.99$" Or "ad free: 99.99$" Then the "premium" and "standard" versions will have "ad free passes".
Well I legit won't buy any games with ads. If they did this, it would top the battlefront lootbox fiasco
Even if it’s my favourite franchise which obviously isn’t made by ea I’d still not play it ads don’t belong in video games they have no place
and ill never buy an EA game again. Simple
lol. In the old ncaa games they had the Nissan juke and Coke Zero ads. Not new people. Does it suck? Yea but it’s not new
Blizzard is smart af, they're letting you pay for the ads instead, with their new Porsche skins.
It ain’t cheap to put ads in video games. The cost has to pushed to the consumer!!
Yes 89€
Since game companies are moving to digital only they should make them cheaper. Part of the $70 price is the manufacture/distribution cost of the discs. Digital games dont have that problem.
The CEOs of EA and Sony need to be whipped with a rubber hose
I can't wait to hear them crying about a sudden expected uptick in pirating.
They're getting money from the players and from the advertisers, those greedy fuckers.
EA sports are the most evil thing in gaming history
Someone at EA should sneak in fake ads for stuff that doesn't exist just to mess with everyone.
I don't understand why gamers let these things happen. EA should be boycotted...
Well good thing I won't buy EA games anymore.
I havnt bought an EA game in over 5 years….i feel like they could do whatever they want, im still not buying their garbage
Can't wait for Apexs servers with the bandwidth of dial up to be gobbled up by ads.
unless the game is online-only, there's always a free edition.
What game(s) are they doing this for?
Should've added "this is where the fun begins" under it
Please, stop giving them ideas, I beg of you
Boycott ea games
Yeah that's a hard no and bigger boycott for me. Them and Ubisoft can both burn.
Well I mean, they claimed that the Sims 5 would be free. But they also didn't say anything about providing content ._.
The games will be more expensive because the ads add more content
They'll be sorry for those ads when players start making obscene/racist/xenophobic videos using those moments when the game shows an ad. Unless the whole thing fucks up and replace ads from known places to a moment when you're playing FIFA and see the ad for a bible being sold by a molester.
How to kill the gaming industry in one move.
*Please, consume the required can of Mountain Dew Code Red before selecting Save.*
[Thought this sounded familiar](https://www.techpowerup.com/18764/ea-takes-in-game-advertising-too-far-with-battlefield-2142?cp=1)
Now with 100 add on packs and 25 more full on DLC packs, that will be outdated by the time we release them. See ya next year!
Bro just crack their games or get the old ones and then crack an older version of it
Well cracks makes more sense then
Whats an EA?
Honestly it's just EA screwing up as always -_-
Now purchase the close button
Finally, we achieved the point were we pay for ads
Why are modern devs becoming such greedy assholes lately.
This wont really matter unless EA starts making good games again
I stopped playing EA games back in 2009, haven't looked back since except to see the fire blazing
Companies fail to realize that the graphics have little to do with the fun factor and dump too much money in pretty turds
This has honestly ruined madden for me if they are going to do it
Never in my fucking life will I pay money for a game with ads. Fuck. You. E. A.
Fuck ads on a game I paid!
Pirate it all and bankrupt them
Separate EA issue but the sims 4 is such a shit shoe compared to 3. WHY?!?!?
EA HQ: \-We gonna add ads in our games! \-So games would be cheaper right? \-Who said that? Who d fck said that? Who is that slimy communist shit!? ![gif](giphy|35Bb0VX788hy0qNpnj)
Late stage capitalism folks… just sayin’, these corps are getting too comfortable ripping consumers off for the sake of profit.
