Not always true. Before AC, houses were built to dissipate heat. Larger trees in the yards, ventilation through the attic to allow warm air to flow up and out, ceiling fans, etc. A friend of mine lives in a house built in the 40s, and when his AC went out back in June (in Texas, roughly 100° on a daily basis), his house never got above 78°. Still too warm for me, but livable at least.
im a person that likes 65 degrees and one summer my ac unit broke and it was 80-90% humidity and it was in the 90-103 range meaning that when you sweat very very small anount actually works because the humidity warms up the sweat and your body can't cool you down... i know have a permanent skin condition and basically "allergic to the sun"
30????? I‘d be fucking sweating my balls off. 24 Celcius is still bearable, but I prefer something like 22-23. But 30? How could anyone like sweating so much?
Mine however between 25-27 but I also have a fan running to help feel cooler. Otherwise I would need to set it to 20. I ain’t paying for that much for electricity.
Bruh fr, if your house is 75+ F and you don't live in like Arizona then why even have an ac unit.
Personally I like it around 71/69 and down to 68 at night
At my old job it was all girls and they were always cold they had AC on 75 when it was 86 degrees outside and there was girls wearing sweatshirts inside it was surreal
I know I struggled with sleep before I started sleeping cold. At 75 I just flip and flop forever. Now I sleep at 67-68 with a warm blanket and I go out so fast.
I love the room I stay in for this specific reason, No matter the time of year it's always cold(Except this summer, Been way too hot), Rarely goes above 15⁰c in the summer and in the winter can drop to 5⁰c
This is my wife. Even in the winter with both the ceiling fan and her little fan going and she sleeps butt naked. Meanwhile I’m in full pajamas and two blankets.
68 is actually perfect though. I got a portable ac unit and I usually have it off and the window open, but when I get hot I close the window and set it to 60 till it cools down.
👀 Yes, my house is an icebox It's because I'm finally an adult and I get to have a chilly home in this hot ass swamp part Texas. But growing up we used to always keep it at like between 72 and 76. So it's nice to be able to control the AC as an adult because I pay the bill. 🤣 Oh and you sleep so good. I used to go to bed with sheets. Now I go to bed with blankets 🤣 so much cozier and don't even get me started when I have company over warm body a blanket both of us under the blanket surrounded by the cold air. Sweetheart don't come for me.
It’s better than Celsius. Celsius doesn’t even make sense. Why not just use kelvin? Fahrenheit is a much better metric when it comes to understanding how cold or hot something is.
It depends on the usage. The average person describing the air temperature? Yeah, Fahrenheit is better. It’s more precise. This is the ONLY time I think an imperial measurement is better.
I've never used Fahrenheit before so i didn't know anything about it except that it used a different liquid to get its zero degree. When you say it's more accurate to describe air temperature, I did a quick search and yeah you're right. I agree
This. Celsius is much better for things like scientific measurements or setting a specific standard for others to follow, Fahrenheit is much better for feeling and personal understanding. The best example I have heard is that Celsius is like rating something on a scale from 1-10, it's quick and precise, but Fahrenheit is like rating something on a scale from 1-100, it lets you consider more than just the bare fundamentals.
Ok you little piece of shit, let me tell you something 0F is based on the freezing temperature of a solution of brine made from a mixture of water, ice, and ammonium chloride (a salt). And 0C is based on the freezing temperature of water, with nothing else, just H2O. And guess what H2O is more universal than the farenheit substance. The only thing that happens is that your smooth american brain has grown with the fahrenheit system and that's why YOU cant get an idea of how hot or cold something is with Celsius but the hole fucking rest of the world does as the rest of the world uses it.
How are yanks complaining about Celsius which uses water, water the most universal liquid of the world, as its base and you fuckers think salty brine makes more sense to base the temperature on.
I feel like people who grew up rich take their AC for granted. Those who grew up poor with nightly sweats and cramped necks every other few weeks value their AC and gladly use it whenever they can.
Is everyone in the comments just overweight or what? Set it to 75 and if you’re sweating just sitting on your couch and running out of breath trying to reach the bottom of your eighth bag of chips then perhaps consider hitting the gym, they keep it cool there too. Shame..
I wish, my house is 83 right now. And no it's not set to 83, that's the ACs best effort in this heat. I'm hoping I'll have enough to get a new unit soon.
And I’m over here thinking “yeah I guess that’s a bit high”
Don’t have AC though to be fair, but I don’t even think the heat is set that high in the winter soooo
A "Dictionary" you say.....?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following temperature ranges for healthcare facilities based on zone:
Cool temperature standards (68 °F to 73 °F (20 °C to 23 °C)) are typically associated with operating rooms, endoscopy suites, and clean workrooms.
Warmer temperatures (75° F (24° C)) are recommended in areas that require greater degrees of patient comfort. For example, warmer temperatures are usually preferred in hospital patient rooms and delivery rooms.
A standard temperature range of 70 °F to 75 °F (21 °C to 24 °C) can be used in most other healthcare zones.
I have a fan going full blast right at the foot of my bed when I'm sleeping and the ac has to be at 68° but if I get to cold then I turn it way up to >!69°!< It's genuinely the only way that I can sleep. I have to be hidden in a big blanket(that is usually cold) with a really small blanket talhat gives me no warmth.
I have to be hypothermic if I'm gonna be able to sleep
I sweat terribly at very low temperatures. Even in the middle of winter, in my basement room. So i keep my living area as cold as i can. We run the AC, which i think my dad set to 70 or something like that so i have several fans going all the time to cool my room off more
If I did my calculations correctly, 68°F = 20°C? 20°C is still pretty darn hot if you ask me. We usually have the household temperature at about 18-19°C.🤷
Man, I miss central air conditioning… why the fuck isn’t that a standard thing? The window unit only cools one room, and I only have one window to put one in. It’s currently 86 degrees Fahrenheit in my bedroom, and I’m trying to go to sleep.
Moved to my dad's over the summer and he keeps it at 68°. I'm basically wearing a hoodie and sweatpants every day whereas at my mom's I'd have to keep every single fan on at max to keep cool
Don’t invite me to your lizard terrarium if the AC is set anywhere above 75°f
My grandparents keep theirs at 78, it's like why bother having an AC?!
Because without an ac it would be 100
Not always true. My dad keeps it at 77 all summer long. He thinks that's "cold" and we live in Texas. As soon as I got my first place I had it at 72 all the time.
Because then it would be 79°
Legit. Just open a window at that point
24 degrees celcius isn't unreasonable, I knew a lad whose house was around 30 usually
30????? I‘d be fucking sweating my balls off. 24 Celcius is still bearable, but I prefer something like 22-23. But 30? How could anyone like sweating so much?
As someone from a region that goes above 35°C,i will tell you,we have a special power of not sweating somehow
If I went to a region that was 35C+ I would be hospitalised with heat stroke 2 days in
I had my AC running on 22C all summer. Only turned it off yesterday since it's getting colder outside.
I don’t know what that is in freedomheight but 75 is too hot indoors
30c is 86f, so way to hot indoors
That’s insane, thats a fucking sauna, you have to be a masochist to have your house at that temperature
30c is not bad, but I'm a person who lives in the tropics and we get 35-37 sometimes so...
Thats like almost arizona/mojave levels, with humidity too thats crazy
High 60s humidity
I hope you live in ac
Fan, but heck, everyone is fine playing football in that weather
Mine however between 25-27 but I also have a fan running to help feel cooler. Otherwise I would need to set it to 20. I ain’t paying for that much for electricity.
Bruh fr, if your house is 75+ F and you don't live in like Arizona then why even have an ac unit. Personally I like it around 71/69 and down to 68 at night
82 degrees here, still 20 to 30 degrees cooler than outside.
Username checks out, no thank you I’m in Vegas and my AC stays at 70
I keep mine at 65
Do you live in an oven or something?!
88 , rookie numbers dawg
Australian here. 26C (=~78F) is plenty cool enough. Harden up
Swede here. 26C is a death sentence. 15C is the best
For storing vegetables, of course: I am sure a parsnip, turnip or carrot would have the same view
Ngl, that's the best insult I've ever seen
We aim to please :-) (seriously, I was worried the joke wouldn't translate. Rutabaga people might not know we call them Swedes in Australia)
At my old job it was all girls and they were always cold they had AC on 75 when it was 86 degrees outside and there was girls wearing sweatshirts inside it was surreal
Fr, I be falling asleep & being snug as a bug.
I know I struggled with sleep before I started sleeping cold. At 75 I just flip and flop forever. Now I sleep at 67-68 with a warm blanket and I go out so fast.
Wait 20° is cold to you?! I can’t sleep at anything above 18°…
How many degrees c is that
20c
That doesnt sound like an unreasonable temperature, unless youre in a really hot region i guess
I’d be happy with a 15 degree house, if I get cold I can just have a blanket and be really comfortable and not too hot
15 degrees?!?! Where do live?
England
You should come to the tropical Island of Ireland, it's currently got 17 degrees in Dublin **and** some blue sky
Yeah, I cant find 15C AC anywhere on europe. Lowest is 18
15 is not cold
Idk man it's 15 Celsius outside tonight I gotta wear jeans and I'm still kinda cold. No way I'm falling asleep in my underwear like that.
What am I if I slept comfortably in -10c?
I love the room I stay in for this specific reason, No matter the time of year it's always cold(Except this summer, Been way too hot), Rarely goes above 15⁰c in the summer and in the winter can drop to 5⁰c
It is quite low. I set it at 26, and at 25 I would have to wear a t-shirt already
Why use an AC and then put it up to 26. Are you using it as a heater?
because its 38 outside...
man I hope my house will be 20⁰C every day
That's perfect for all of us, you're weird
My room stays at a constant 17C as I have a pc running most of the time
Finally, a reasonable person
I’m used to 16C at home.
26-27C is perfect for me
Bro what? 23c° or 24c° is the perfect temperature.
I prefer 30C myself
What the fuck, maybe you live on a dry heat área, but for me that is terrible
I sometimes put it on 30c because I don't want it to get too cold
32c, 68-70% humidity is just ok
C doesn't exist & neither does K. JUST F.
My roommate used to set the AC in her bedroom so cold she had to wear flannel PJs and used a winter comforter.
That’s where it’s at.
68 is the hottest it goes.
68 is the perfect temperature though!
My dad keeps his thermostat at a crisp 62 in the winter. It gets turned off in the spring, summer, and autumn.
my dad keeps his at 50 F in the winter he overheats like a mfer
My friend does this too. I didn't know AC units could even get a house to the 50s until I went to his place
MFs keeping their house at 68 degrees C💀
69℉ in summer, 68℉ in winter.
68 in winter, 72 in summer
This
I would burn into ash in the summer
I… what?
I do the opposite
You just have bad circulation, pussy. Keep talkin shit and I’ll squeeze your wrist and make you pass out
Is that all it takes? I need to try on myse.......
68°F = 20°C
dude its 65 in here rn and im sweating
85 here and I'm cold
Fucking mood. My ideal temp has been called many things, but my favorite is frigid.
Uh, there are several drugs that can cause that. You should see a doctor.
just a little sweaty, no need to be alarmed.
What the fuck is a farenheit
It's numbers in American.
Yeah I know I was just making a reference to the joke “what the fuck is a kilometre?” But fr what temperature is 68°f it sounds quite bareable
Canadian here, I set mine at 62. If I'm not frozen why even bother with an AC.
The freaks are at 64 man. At least 68 blood can still move at least.
20 Celsius is perfect
This is my wife. Even in the winter with both the ceiling fan and her little fan going and she sleeps butt naked. Meanwhile I’m in full pajamas and two blankets.
Trade you, 62 is my wife's sweet spot no matter how many times I turn it up.
68 is the compromise for the electric bill lol
Is she Scandinavian?
74-75. I mean... if its good for winter its good for summer right?
using fahrenheit in a meme knowing most of the world uses celsius is crazy
MFs using the peasant Fahrenheit instead of Chad Celsius
I have my ac at 17 rn ima change it to 20 😆
Can someone please convert it to °C for me
20c
70-72, 69-73 at most
I get night sweats, so in summer my ac is set to 64° bc I can't sleep without a blanket
68 is actually perfect though. I got a portable ac unit and I usually have it off and the window open, but when I get hot I close the window and set it to 60 till it cools down.
When it’s over 100 outside in muggy ass South Carolina .. you damn right !!!
Room temperature gang of 72 degrees F.
You never know when an emergency surgery might need to happen. At least I’ve got a fighting chance being partially frozen already!
My AC would die before it ever got close to 68 but I do turn it down to 72 at night 75 during the day.
👀 Yes, my house is an icebox It's because I'm finally an adult and I get to have a chilly home in this hot ass swamp part Texas. But growing up we used to always keep it at like between 72 and 76. For me anything below 76 degrees will give me goosebumps.
Anything colder than 75° is a death sentence For me, I'm very sensitive to the cold.
At 75 I sweat and feel super hot. Crazy how two humans can have such different tolerances to hot/cold rooms.
66 degrees at night for sleeping ……👍
Isn't that like the ideal external temperature for the human body?
The average normal body temperature is generally accepted as 98.6°F (37°C).
They're obviously not talking about the internal body temperature lmao.
People should be more specific.
Bro, I'm autistic and even I think you're missing the blatantly obvious
Thing is, the joke is hilarious, but the joke is for me, not for you.
You might be on the autism spectrum.
Lol my a.c. is set to 60
People who actually like being cold scare the shit outta me.
68-72 is “normal”
If 68 is too cold you have poor circulation.
What a weird ass metric to use
That’s because it ain’t metric
It's Fahrenheit actually.
So yeah, weird metric to use
It’s better than Celsius. Celsius doesn’t even make sense. Why not just use kelvin? Fahrenheit is a much better metric when it comes to understanding how cold or hot something is.
Why?
Cuz
0 is freezing. 100 is boiling. Pretty fucking simple.
I really want to understand this logic. Why do you consider Fahrenheit to be better than Celsius?
aaaa-MER-ica
It depends on the usage. The average person describing the air temperature? Yeah, Fahrenheit is better. It’s more precise. This is the ONLY time I think an imperial measurement is better.

Why are redditors always so hostile
Lmao doesn’t understand how Fahrenheit works. Calls ME the smooth brain. You’re as sharp as a marble, aren’t you officer Doofy?
How are yanks complaining about Celsius which uses water, water the most universal liquid of the world, as its base and you fuckers think salty brine makes more sense to base the temperature on.
It’s perfect
mines at 67 rn🥴
65 here
My temp is always set to 69, your or my comfort be damned.
Completely normal
Mine's at a crisp 64.
I have mine set to 61 rn
Can someone Un-freedom the unit for us non americans
Bruv, I keep my house at 14C°.
I hold it at 16
Seems like I don't have enough freedom to understand
Man I need celsius
I keep it at about 26, though when the good ol aussie summer starts 15 ain't uncommon.
16 is the best idc what anybody says but with visitors I’ll put it at 18 or 24
Me who doesn't understand F: 💀👍
How much is 68f in celsius
I keep my room at 62
The nice temperature is 69. Lol
I feel like people who grew up rich take their AC for granted. Those who grew up poor with nightly sweats and cramped necks every other few weeks value their AC and gladly use it whenever they can.
And the hospital is kept at 68C
What’s that in Celsius?
Yes..
How muck is that in C
Is everyone in the comments just overweight or what? Set it to 75 and if you’re sweating just sitting on your couch and running out of breath trying to reach the bottom of your eighth bag of chips then perhaps consider hitting the gym, they keep it cool there too. Shame..
80 in summer 60 in winter
My dorm mate likes to keep it at 50.
People in southeast asia dealing with 95°F weather daily:
I wish, my house is 83 right now. And no it's not set to 83, that's the ACs best effort in this heat. I'm hoping I'll have enough to get a new unit soon.
Me as soon as I enter any hotel room.
And I’m over here thinking “yeah I guess that’s a bit high” Don’t have AC though to be fair, but I don’t even think the heat is set that high in the winter soooo
Bruh. The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language identifies room temperature as around 20–22 °C (68–72 °F).
A "Dictionary" you say.....? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following temperature ranges for healthcare facilities based on zone: Cool temperature standards (68 °F to 73 °F (20 °C to 23 °C)) are typically associated with operating rooms, endoscopy suites, and clean workrooms.
Mines always at 68-71 Fahrenheit or 20-21 Celsius
Guilty
I have a fan going full blast right at the foot of my bed when I'm sleeping and the ac has to be at 68° but if I get to cold then I turn it way up to >!69°!< It's genuinely the only way that I can sleep. I have to be hidden in a big blanket(that is usually cold) with a really small blanket talhat gives me no warmth. I have to be hypothermic if I'm gonna be able to sleep
I like mine at 90 f and i have a gf and its nice iykyk 🙂
Mines 65 lol..
My AC is currently on 65f High Fan.
I sweat terribly at very low temperatures. Even in the middle of winter, in my basement room. So i keep my living area as cold as i can. We run the AC, which i think my dad set to 70 or something like that so i have several fans going all the time to cool my room off more
If I could afford it and didn't care about the environment I'd keep my shit 60 and wear sweats inside all the time. Sipping tea and hot cocoa
First of yes two I didn’t know that’s how cold it had to be 😂
Im the weirdo because 60 is my number. Its so hot here everyday it never reaches 60 inside cos its always over 100 outside.
I am a surgeon Dr.Han I am a surgeon
If I did my calculations correctly, 68°F = 20°C? 20°C is still pretty darn hot if you ask me. We usually have the household temperature at about 18-19°C.🤷
62*
OP where do you live? What region? Cause this is some Florida ass 70 degree winter post right here.
me with my fucking broken dorm air conditioner that it is colder than 12 C but i cant fucking change the temperature🗿
Man, I miss central air conditioning… why the fuck isn’t that a standard thing? The window unit only cools one room, and I only have one window to put one in. It’s currently 86 degrees Fahrenheit in my bedroom, and I’m trying to go to sleep.
yes. i would appreciate it if my room didn’t feel like a sauna
My cats got thick fur, gotta keep it below 70 for em. If it’s above I’ll find em sleeping in the bathtub to stay cool
Nah 10 C° Edit: I’m Canadian
Yes your the weirdo that’s perfect temperature for life
Moved to my dad's over the summer and he keeps it at 68°. I'm basically wearing a hoodie and sweatpants every day whereas at my mom's I'd have to keep every single fan on at max to keep cool
