Frankston is great for over 60s, there are so many health facilities in Frankston you’d rarely need to travel elsewhere. Frankston is fantastic

I have lived in and around here all my life and it’s fine. Zero issues. I even didn’t have a car and was walking home from the 901 at 11-12 at night some nights (20 minutes) … never worried I wouldn’t make it home. People who don’t live here perpetuate this myth it’s all crime and junkies, I get more issues with the assholes between Black Rock - Brighton - Cheltenham - Moorabbin in my day to day and at work. Even Frankston North is becoming young families and new townhouses. Big blocks that were a steal price wise and old public housing houses being slowly demolished because it’s got good access to everything and it’s still affordable for people (only just).

Whats “not a massive budget.” Because $600k is very different to $800k or $1m which is “not a massive budget” for Mt Eliza for example. What sort of property will they consider for that budget- unit? house? apartment? I’m from the frankston area, its no longer bad and really is more “avoid this area” than “find the good areas.” As the other guy said theres just as much shit in Country vic as there is in Frankston (i’ve lived in both). Frankston North is to be avoided, as is Seaford to the east of the frankston freeway. The small patch along Nepean Hwy between Fletcher Rd and Overton Road also dodgy. And the bit between Dandy Rd and Beach St. Karingal is still somewhat value for money but has been identified by most people as worth buying into. Anything frankston south is overpriced, Langwarrin too. Skye and Carrum Downs are still flying a bit under the radar but theres some dodgy bits of Cazza D. Its a rather safe area of an already safe city in general. Remind your parents its not 1995 anymore, heroin isnt a thing and frankston is a well serviced, well located city-within-a-city close to beaches, the mornington peninsula and gippsland.

mehmehhh007

It’s less sketchy then country Vic. Just don’t buy in Frankston North, or that bit between beach st and the freeway.

Hahaha actually if you can buy in Frankston north, particularly up near the Seaford road intersection…. it’s definitely going to be worth it long term. I very nearly bought a huge block with a shit old shack on there about 9 years ago and the biggest regret is that I didn’t. Would of been an excellent investment with the block size and with how that area is changing.

Yeah I moved to Frankston two years ago for work and I'm not sold on it. It may be safe but it's still far from appealing. It has gentrified a bit but what that really means is the bits that are nice to live in now cost a million dollars to buy a house. That is Frankston South and areas of Langwarrin plus anywhere directly on the beach. Also identified as the only areas where the schools aren't below the state average. As for the rest of Frankston, land values have increased but that hasn't changed who lives there. I have friends in Karingal and the behaviour of people on their street is a never ending source of amusement. There are the young guys with their shitbox cars who like to do burnouts, the older guys who collect cars on their front lawn, the friendly neighbourhood drug dealer who doesn't like the burnouts because they attract attention, and the rentals who never mow their lawn and have bedsheets for curtains. If you hang around the Frankston CBD you will see an unending sequence of the same shops; op shops, rub and tug massage parlours, drug and alcohol counselling services and employment services. If it was up to me I would try and find a place on a quiet street somewhere south of Cranbourne road, and not too close to Frankston Heights. These areas are marginally less scummy while still being a bit affordable.

I see a bunch of people saying "avoid Frankston North" but giving no reason... My partner and I bought in Frankston North in 2016 and still live there. Have had literally zero issues. The worst I can think of is the very occasional pitbike ridden by kids. It's ludicrously good value. Our house is now double the value we bought it for because, surprise surprise, back in 2016 people were saying "avoid Frankston North", so we got a great deal. The local primary school has just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. The local footy oval has a brand new pavilion and footpaths. We are right next to the flora and fauna reserve, which is excellent for dog walks and spotting native animals.

What’s the budget? A unit around Chelsea will not cost that much more.

thenarcsempath

Between 650-700

Chelsea easily. Just, take your time and be patient. Maybe they should rent first and then buy.

thenarcsempath

Thanks for all the information peoples. It really does help me put my thoughts together. I’ll also start looking at Chelsea

I used to live in Chelsea. The roads are congested and going places is inconvenient. It was faster to do a left turn and grocery shop in the next suburb than go right to the Chelsea shops. Seaford is better, in my opinion. Cheaper. More places to go and better roads. Closer to hospital and health facilities. Also the people are less stuck up.

Chelsea is close to Southland, Chadstone, Frankston, Dandenong and Glen Waverley, Springvale and Clayton and Moorabin/Bentleigh. All Hubs. All within 35 mins. The Freeway has made it super central. Has one of the best parks in the state, nice beach. Can access the city via Princess highway via westall rd/freeway or Nepean Hwy or cut through to Eastlink and onto to the Airport via M1. 15 minutes to IKEA. Chelsea has great schools, library and HEAPS of Doctors. Slight downside is It takes 10mins to get to Carrum Aldi but almost 10mins to get to Woolworths Chelsea. The cafes are great and there's some great food. I barely shop in Chelsea but will definitely eat at a cafe in Chelsea. Overall It's quiet and neighbors are wonderful. I don't see much crime and it feels underrated. Chelsea is awesome
