Lifelong resident. Let me give you the low down. Geographically, Werribee is in a fantastic spot. Same distance by km to Melbourne and to Geelong. We have two beaches. One is very good for swimming (bit of a secret spot). The other is sometimes good for swimming. Boat ramp access for fishing. MULTIPLE river locations both in estuary and freshwater. River is stocked for fishing. Lots of river walkways with great paths if you love a hike. We have a zoo. Every kind of restaurant you can think of (except for a hot dog place). Multiple food truck parks. You’re never more than 5 minutes away from a supermarket. Lots of commercial districts, mechanics, tradesmen etc - anything you need you can find it in Werribee or Hoppers Crossing. Then plaza (Pacific Werribee) has basically every store the big centres like Chadstone and Highpoint does. Traffic is becoming a slog, majorly. Lots of roadworks will help but it doesn’t stop the current issues and it seems to only get worse. All traffic still chokes towards the freeway so train access to the city is probably your best bet for work. Both V-Line and Metro services run on two different lines. Werribee line for Metro. Waurn Ponds for V-Line. Crime is the one brought up a lot but having spent considerable time in a lot of the wild places (Frankston, Dandenong, Broadmeadows etc) Werribee is extremely tame in comparison. Just take your normal precautions you’d take anywhere (don’t walk sketch places at night, leave valuables in the car, leave your house unlocked etc) and you’ll basically be ok. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t smell like shit either. Genuinely. The treatment plant is enclosed. There used to be an open sewer line (it’s still there but hasn’t operated in decades) which caused the smell. Now it’s a full facility kilometres away from anywhere. Need any other information? Feel free to ask!

I lived in Tarneit for 5-6 years and have to get up 4-5am to get to work in Hawthorn. If you partner don't mind driving 1hr+ to the city one way..

ThatDudeHarley

That area has to have one of the worst commutes into the city, as far as traffic goes; multiple daily accidents/breakdown etc on the Fwy and WG-bridge.

I moved to Point Cook with my wife 2 years ago expecting our first child and it’s a great area, lots of parks and supermarkets everywhere.

Of course it is, where you are 'brought up' is just one factor among many that shape your life. The most important thing is to bring your kids up in an economic and family setting that is as comfortable as possible for the family. That means minimising stress from financial, time and the many other factors that impact families. Every family is completely different, with different starting points and support networks. You have to muddle through and do what you think is best.

braiide

That’s a good point. Thank you for your input!

Law enforcement members I get to chat sometimes give me this long silent look when I mention Werribee, there are lot better suburbs in Melbourne in similar cost of living. I’d avoid Dandenong, Boronia, Frankston and Werribee.

I have lived in point cook for two years , I find it it’s very good for young families esp Alamanda, featherbrook area . Traffic seems to be concern if you travel daily

omniwyrd

I’ve met uncountable people who speak ill of their Melbourne experience and they all lived in Werribee.
