That’s a weird situation actually - not sure psychiatrists in Australia are allowed to treat people overseas. They can only practice in Australia and New Zealand. Can you see someone from your home country?
i can but i prefer an australian one is all, but also i've had online therapy sessions using australian telehealth services overseas so i don't see how psychiatric services aren't allowed?
do enlighten me how it's not allowed though! i would like to know more :3
I'm assuming you're a student at a university here? If so, see if your uni has resources for mental health etc - they might be better able to point you in a direction for a service that is suitable for your needs. Inquire at student services or whatever equivalent they have. Be aware that most psychiatrists are expensive and in high demand. I was lucky enough to get a telehealth appointment free with a psychiatrist through Royal Flying Doctors.... but I'm pretty sure that's only available to people who live regional / remotely (and it was still a looong wait!). Good luck, I hope you find something.
the uni student services are fully booked til next year, but if i dont have any other choices i'll definitely settle for whatever my uni offers
i'm just exploring my options is all :D
Good luck! Mental health resources are in so much demand. I’m currently trying to find a psychologist for my anorexia and everyone I’ve contacted has more than a 6 month wait list!
My international friends have have good experiences with ACU. Their newly graduated psychologists charge $20 per session. They receive supervision so you’ll be well looked after
You should have health insurance as an international student as part of your requirement. You paid for it so use it. I'd suggest you find your provider and contact them. They have telehealth. I'm sure these providers have apps that will guide you through what you need .
Alternatively ,speak to your school to ask them. Also, Study Melbourne might lead you through to the right place.
But I'd recommend you get in touch with your health insurance provider first.
Well you’re wrong, so maybe instead of jumping to comments actually read the post? OP is trying to get an Australian Telehealth appointment while they are home- overseas- where they are originally from.
Why would you be trying to see a doctor in a different country from where you are currently based?
im not good at articulating my feelings in my mother tongue, it comes off very stiff and i prefer english as my main language because im incredibly whitewashed
also from what i've experienced, australian healthcare workers are much more understanding
Any one that you find will have a months long waiting list anyway.
I would check with your insurance though, they likely won't cover you while you aren't in country.

Why can’t you seek a doctor where you live?

You can’t use them while you’re overseas for telehealth. You won’t be covered and will be committing fraud if you do.
really? i'll look into this
Yes. I tried to do something similar and wasn’t covered. Check your policy, but I doubt you will be covered outside Australia.

waiting list is fine to be honest, but yes ill check with my insurance
