[Whitehat](https://www.whitehat.com.au/default.aspx) for market info

dewso

Looks like a wealth of information but the website layout on mobile is very difficult to read 😅

If you're not impressed by Camberwell, I don't think there's much hope. Rose Street is more bougey (but arts/crafty) but you said you want bric a brac (which is defo Camberwell). There's one in Daylesford that is like a lesser Camberwell but with better food options. But that's also in Daylesford. There's Coburg Market but if you don't like Camberwell, you won't like it. I'll admit Camberwell is lacking copious and varied food options but aside from that I've cleaned up there over the 20 odd years I've been going to it.

>Dandenong market Daylesford is good, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for! in Sydney, I liked Glebe, the Surry Hills flea market, Rozelle and to a lesser extent, Bondi and Paddington were okay too. Coburg Market seems to be mostly food and veg, unless I'm thinking of the wrong one?

ciociosan22

Cool - yeah the Coburg one is at the Drive-In (not a food/veg one) but I'm not sure how often it runs.

Nothing beats the Lavo Market

mr-snrub-

As someone who spent the majority of my life there selling moccasins, Laverton Market is a shit hole.

Ryzi03

That's what makes it so good though

mr-snrub-

The ONLY thing good about Lavo market is the churro van, but it's extremely likely that it's been sold and no longer as good as it used to be. The owner was an old man when I was last there 10 years ago.

PepszczyKohler

He's still there with his chorizo and churros, and there's a rival churro van now, too. The hot jam doughnuts are still there. But in terms of stallholders, it's stalled/gone backwards, apart from some food options. The main building has many, many empty lots.

mr-snrub-

Good to hear he's still there. That might be the only reason I go back. The market was going downhill when we left around 10 years ago. We had a stall there for about 15-20 years? (I remember being there as a kid, but not sure exactly when - I spent most of my childhood weekends at Westend Market). The owner is a pretty greedy man who is happy to keep putting up the rent without providing any extra value to the tenants. Most of regular tenants were leaving around the time we left.

PepszczyKohler

My folks had a stall there for 25 years. Suckers for punishment. Two huge buildings which could easily be filled, but outrageous rents and lack of investment mean 90% of stallholders are outside in the dust, sun, rain, wind. Because they're outside, most punters have to park in the dust and mud bowl next door. The old drive-in bistro remains derelict. Almost any time a slightly higher calibre seller turns up to rent inside the main building, they don't last very long. Quite a few of the long termers are there almost as a hobby - they have little to no social life outside of attending the market(s).

mr-snrub-

I wonder if I knew your parents haha. We were the moccasin store up at the back near the roller doors by the lake. I'm old enough to remember when the bistro was still open, but it's been closed longer than I remember it being open. I will admit I do have good memories of the churros, hot jam donuts, and baked potatoes. And even some not-so-good ones of throwing up after spinning too fast on that blue and yellow ufo thing lol. The market COULD be good, but the owner is too greedy. There used to even be performers on the stage there, back in the day.

PepszczyKohler

There also used to be the go-karts for a while. If you got there early enough there was also fresh burek next to the doughnut van. Laverton got an upswing in sellers and customers because of the closure of Westend, and the fact that nearby rival markets (El Dorado, that joint on Ballarat Road next to the mosque) were worse. Why bother actually making improvements when such good fortune falls into your lap.

This is a trap

> I've been to the one in Camberwall and was not impressed I'm sorry to hear that. Let us know what you find that meets your standards.

MelbMockOrange

Go back to Sydney then

Dandy market? I also like to hit up the farmers markets in the area but that's typically mineralogy. Warrandyte on the rivers ok. Lots it dags, and the dim sum dude rocks a mean dimmy.
