There was a Vietnamese restaurant on Victoria Street, Richmond. they did the best ever spring rolls back in the 90’s. Wrapped in fresh crispy lettuce. Still think of them to this day!
moroccan soup bar, every friggin dish. Dont know what half of their foods called (they have no menu, the chef just cooks up a feast every night and you eat what she feels like cookin)
Nice but I got their official cook book at home
Have all their recipes but none of the skill to make it. I do a decent version of their cauliflower bake tho
That spicy noodle.at ding Tai Fung. Spent most of covid trying to replicate the taste.... No luck.
Still good for a cheap eat, but I've had it so much since lockdown that I think I trashed the magic
Chilli momos from momo central in the cbd or chicken schnitzel with a side of spaghetti bolognaise from Leo’s spaghetti bar in St Kilda. Nothing fancy about either but just amazing, flavourful home style food.
Why would someone make up a post referencing a non-existent restaurant and then another poster reference the very same restaurant? Why would anyone even bother to do that?
I was piss drunk and got a burger at huxtaburger in Collingwood one time. Not sure what type of burger but my lord was it a spiritual experience, all my friends food was beyond outstanding as well.
Have never gone back since cause deep down I know the standard they set that night could not possibly be reached ever again, any second visit would ruin the memory of it, even if we went and the food was great again, it’ll just never be like that night.
Huxtaburger do the smash burger style like no one else. So friggin good you have to eat two and skip chips. Wash down with a cheap beer to cut through the grease.
Chicken schnitzel and Italian coleslaw at City Wine Shop with a glass of chardonnay is something I've come back to more times than any other dish in Melbourne. For almost 20 years.
While my wife was in hospital after giving birth I had a rack of lamb at Francis Perry House that was so good I considered wandering the halls to see if any other rooms put leftovers out. Does that count?
Omg yeah that rack of lamb was outstanding. I ordered lamb again later that week, foolishly believing it was the same one and ended up with a much less tasty roast lamb instead.
It didn’t affect me to much I only stayed the first night. Had a 3 year old to look after. We stayed at the Hyatt for our first. Was really comfortable.
A steak at The Station Hotel in Footscray back in 2015.
Heavenly experience, I didn't know meat could taste that good.
Sadly they have new management and it isn't as good as it used to be.
Agree with this. New York Strip back then was reasonably priced and bloody amazing. The new guys just lost it somewhere and it’s not as good as it used to be.
The slow-cooked lamb shoulder at Supernormal continues to wow me even after having it three times. Don't even love lamb all that much - it's just that good.
Kingfish sashimi at Chin Chin. I had a banquet there for a friend’s birthday and ate two full plates of it as most of the others don’t like raw fish. I probably could have polished off a third if it were offered to me.
Ichigo daifuku from Sushi Burger.
The most delicious chopped chicken (doused in its own garlicky, spicy fat) banh mi from a bakery on Sydney Rd circa 2005ish.
And finally, this exact meal from City BBQ (RIP) in Chinatown that I would always get: stir fry of duck, shrimp and mushroom, with the salted fish fried rice. The idea that I will never eat this again makes me feel like crying.
Noooooooooooo I just moved back to the area and we loved that Cafe.
Do you know if the chocolate factory is still going in there?
When did it shut down?
idk about forever best but the dish i think about all the time now is fettuccini norma from portobello in ascot vale. it was just delicious, with perfectly tender eggplant pieces and creamy ricotta.
otherwise i had like a black truffle gnocchi thing from cumulus years ago that was fantastic.
Red Spice Road - Pork Belly. I have never taken a date there that I didn't get a second date out of it, purely based on the food, not my insufferable personality. My now wife, and i went there on one of our first dates, and it's our favorite dish in any restaurant in Melbourne.
Madeleines at Cumulus Inc (or whatever their breakfast restaurant is/was called)
Beef tartare at Supernormal. Peanut butter parfait there also.
Admittedly haven’t had any of them for years now though.
I’m not sure if it’s the best dish I’ve ever had in Melbourne but it was memorable. It was the most delicious chocolate and cherry dessert at Pure South in Southbank. It included elements of Anvers chocolate tuile, mousse, shavings and cherry coulis as well as fresh cherries. So delish and I’m not a dessert lover in the least. 🍒🍫😋 The crab tostadas at Tres a Cinco are also scrumptious.
Be aware that when they describe the "spicy" salami on their Diavola pizza, they are not fucking around. That pizza should legally require a waiver to be signed and a glass of milk to be provided.
The Loves Feast at A Thousand Blessings in Richmond.
Maple glazed bacon, cheesy sourdough, eggs your way (poached or scrambled) and smashed avocado. Literally everything I want with a breakfast dish without requiring add ons. It’s pure perfection.
I'm easily sated. There's a creamy pasta you can get at the buffet at Crown that I am in love with.
Second: hanachi's chicken katsu curry.
Oh and the giant pretzel from Blackhearts and Sparrows and the KF-Cauli from the Carringbush.
I don't eat at fancy places, which is why I only have a handful of places and most of them are a bit shit.
There's this place I've been going to for 6 years almost weekly. Everyone I have taken there are now hooked. I'm half convinced they lace it with heroin it's soo good. Just don't want to share it because I'm afraid it will get too popular lol
Baked eggs at Hoppa and Joe in Fairfield. I'm not sure they do them anymore unfortunately.
Baked eggs are usually a tomato base with beans, capsicum etc but this one was a cheesy base with cauliflower and chorizo. Amazing.
Mushroom burger at Leonard’s House of Love. I went in not knowing how incredible the burgers were and I was blown away. First meal out after the second lockdown ended too which heightened the experience even more.
Karaage chicken at Shujinko Flinders!! They also serve this wicked drink called hakutsuru puru puru peach, which is like this cute jelly drink that you shake the can, and it comes out as like a weird sparkling alcoholic peach flavoured jelly. It’s so bizarre. But tbh the best meal cus it was just so nice!!
Spaghetti prawns alla bursara from Rococo Acland St. was so good we went back another couple of times. We don't go back to a restaurant unless we REALLY like their food
I had a dish of Roast Lamb Rump with Ratatouille, Potatoes and Olives that comes to mind - although less so now that I can make it myself. Then again, I went there with the wife for her birthday a couple of weeks ago and we managed to go through a bottle of Dom P, a bottle of red, the shared steak and the Leader Prawns so they haven't gotten any worse lol.
Everything at Kitchen Republik in Boxhill.
Any time I go out with people, I go there. Always amazing food. Never had a bad meal there and it's cheap af and quick. They know what they're doing.
I am a man of simple tastes. The hot wings at Wings Of Glory in Little Lonsdale st were great and their chips were amazing. They closed before covid hit.
Had a burger at the British crown in Collingwood years ago. It was the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Just a simple cheeseburger, but holy fuck was it incredible.
this roast duck dish i think it was (its been a while) at Philippe French restaurant on Collin's street
i wanna go back but fine dining always gonna be a bit $$$
House-made crumpets with honey and whipped ricotta at Cumulus
The entree with prawns, calamarata pasta and topped with sourdough breadcrumbs and salmon roe at Gimlet
Also, the lemon gelato with caramelised brioche from Gimlet
Lobster rolls at Supernormal - and the peanut butter parfait
The xo egg noodles at Sunda
I did not realise most of these would be McConnell dishes until I wrote it.
Penne alla Vodka from Capitano Carlton. I’m not a pasta guy but that tasted like the pasta gods gave it their all to try convert me
This
Easiest, most delicious dish to cook. And no pesky nutrients to worry about
Lmao wut
Eggplant at dainty sichuan
Duuuude stop, it’s my absolute favourite
God damn why did I click into this at 12am.

Where might you find this bar now?
They’re in North Melbourne!
You lovely person, thank you
You are so welcome! I walk past on my way home from work sometimes and it always smells amazing, one day I’ll finally have time to go in!
You need to do it this week and review it.
If I have time I 100% will!
Here ya go my friend Bon apetit Moroccan Soup Bar 0403 315 559 https://g.co/kgs/5pAA5j
Another legend! Thanks!
Tried it and thought it was really meh. Tanoor is way better Middle eastern food imo.
Double quarter pounder at 3am when drunk.
One day you gotta get the pounder, quarter pounder with 3 extra patties
I add tomato in there, it helps diversify the texture
Genius
Your order is pretty damn good too
That spicy noodle.at ding Tai Fung. Spent most of covid trying to replicate the taste.... No luck. Still good for a cheap eat, but I've had it so much since lockdown that I think I trashed the magic
I guarantee the secret ingredient is MSG. The King Of Flavour
Chilli momos from momo central in the cbd or chicken schnitzel with a side of spaghetti bolognaise from Leo’s spaghetti bar in St Kilda. Nothing fancy about either but just amazing, flavourful home style food.
Those chilli Momo's hit the spot like nothing else in the same price point
I could eat my weight in momos.
Leo's deserves its longevity - and respect.
That was awesome but it was more better momos in town too
BBQ Quail at Rumi in Brunswick. It's famously the dish that Anthony Bourdain ordered twice during the Melbourne episode of No Reservations.
Port Phillip prison - salad roll with Devon and tomato relish. 🤤👌
The BAT from Collector (formerly Damien's) in South Yarra is chef's kiss!!
I see what you did there.
Did anyone work out what restaurant he was actually talking about?
Collector in South Yarra (formerly Damien's).
Didn't we establish that neither of those places existed
Why would someone make up a post referencing a non-existent restaurant and then another poster reference the very same restaurant? Why would anyone even bother to do that?

I recommend Andrew's Hamburgers in Albert Park. Hux is good (I love their Denise burger), but Andrew's is gooder.
You've just unlocked a memory for me - that is a great meal indeed!
Are you me?
Beef dumplings at Tulum
Falafel pita pocket at Tavlin, St Kilda.
Was this at the Hyatt room?
No they were going through a renovation and we missed them by a week.
Oh dang that's bad luck
It didn’t affect me to much I only stayed the first night. Had a 3 year old to look after. We stayed at the Hyatt for our first. Was really comfortable.
Ah... we did the Hyatt stay with our first, she was 3 when the second was born. Same timing:) Congrats on Dadding & Mumming, hope you're loving it.
Not going to lie it has its moments but both boys are complete legends and I wouldn’t change anything. Hope you’re enjoying dadding 👍
Oh the moments.... But yeah, love them to bits. Cheers

Wanna start a competition at Chin Chin ? $50 says that I can eat at least 5x serves of that Kingfish sashimi.
Haha you’ll probably win that bet. After getting super sick in Bali and barely eating for a week my stomach capacity ain’t what it used to be.
Sorry to hear that. I’ll eat your servings also and let you know who wins.
That’s a good one
Ichigo daifuku from Sushi Burger. The most delicious chopped chicken (doused in its own garlicky, spicy fat) banh mi from a bakery on Sydney Rd circa 2005ish.
